Are Weather Effects More Underwhelming Nowadays?

I can’t help but feel that when I look at this video. It would be nice if we had more severe weather (there used to be an intensity slider!) and more types (i.e. fog etc.) also stuff like interior weather sounds while there’s a storm raging outside. I know, most people probably don’t care for tiny details like this, but it would do wonders for immersion.

Can’t seem to post links, but you can find how it used to look/sound by searching " WoW: Classic (Vanilla) - Rain storm".

Well, not everyone wants intense effects so a slider would be awesome if possible

I think the game struggles to do it convincingly.

I mean, the weather effects are just lines or dots on the screen that appear as rain or snow or sand.

Upping the intensity really just disrupts the gameplay experience.

It’s not like even more white lines on the screen makes it feel like it’s raining even more.

You’d need sound effects, puddles, rain flowing from the rooftops, and wet clothes, to give the impression of heavy rain.

And WoW can’t really do that.

The engine is just too old.

Wait what? There were graphics settings for weather???

Now I feel really pissed. Bring it back, Blizzard! I want snow/thunderstorms/wind effects…

Maybe even optional camera shake when strong winds are around.

But tbf, Blizzard didn’t even fix rain falling in certain houses yet. So yeah, no big hopes there.

They should give us toys that allow us to change the weather for only our characters. I know there is some black ink consumable that makes everything night time or something, but I’d love if we got a stormy/rainy one. Like literally Jurassic Park level thunderstorm. Weather changes the ambience entirely of the place you are, and I love that.

We also had limited charged items in MoP, that you could drop, and it would change the weather around you.

Yes, Weather and day night effects used to be more intense. For ex at night it was sometimes legit hard to see anything that wasn´t 2 yards away from you.

Which enough players found distracting /hindering enough for them to eventually tone them back in the interest of gameplay.

You mean like the “Centralized Precipitation Emitter” and “Environment Emulator”?

They´re only a crafting order away, my friend

You’re my hero. BUT, the duration is quite short

And only in the area it was dropped at though ain’t it?

Yes. I’m thinking like a buff, that just carries on wherever you go. I love heavy rain in games.

There used to be an option that enabled/disabled showing Weather effects, did it disappear?
