You still have to farm the war resources which are harder to come by than the Legion order hall resources. I asumme, for this very reason.
You would get resources from cache and there were also resource missions.
I think the WoW Tokens fit well enough into the server economy due to their supply/demand dynamic pricing. If they remained a static 200k gold forever then, yes, they’d destroy the economy.
£17 would become less and less valuable in game as basic prices sky-rocket because in-game gold generation can’t compete, until 200k gold is pocket change. Would the economy become paralyzed as no one is able to buy stuff without spending IRL cash? Or would servers become a lot kinder as the cost of creating consumables and other marketable items becomes so trivial that they are sold for coppers at most?
Or would Blizzard just start releasing more and more “gold sponge” vendors?

They are the reason why i farm as i used them for my sub.
They led to more players taking part in the economy so i doubt they are “bad”, at least for the economy. Who pays the gold for an item doesn’t matter, what matters is that items are being sold at a decent rate.
I know people that still have 70 million+ gold, repairs aren’t that expensive in BFA.
I personally make enough gold to buy plenty of wow tokens off the ah. Goldmaking still is not that hard. (however its been harder to sell things since classic release ). Its simply not worth 20 euro for such little amount of gold, so i never would buy them with real money.
The main reason WoW tokens came to be were chinese goldsellers. Before the WoW token the game was infested with spamming goldsellers wich also hacked accounts to steal peoples gold. They stopped showing up when blizz introduced the wow token. Blizz gets a cut, people with alot of gold can buy game time or store credit, and people with too much real life money can buy their gold without having to go to shady insecure sites. The WoW token is a win-win for everyone in my opinion
They must be booster then as the gold income in BFA compared to Legion/WoD is nothing .
wow tokens or gold sellers, there is no escape.
They all have their gold from WoD and Legion
