Rextroy tweeted on his twitter that the unsocket-socket “exploit” has been fixed by Blizzard in a hotfix.

@Rextroy3
It appears that the method to make gems give you a powerboost in arena has been fixed (tested and now they still give pvp ilvl after using them in the starter room)
Is this a bad, out of season april fools joke though?
They fixed the workaround but not the problem.
Gems (that are ROYAL PAIN IN THE A** to get!!! you’re speaking 5x five mask vision clears for one socket!!!) are making you WEAKER in PVP and that’s Ok for them
But a great player comes up with a work-around that makes them work as intented, increasing your strength like they’re supposed to do FFS, ooooh thats not OK, hotfix hotfix hotfix!
You know what, screw this. Good thing i haven’t preordered Shadowlands.
If this was not put on a plate for players to discover barely any of you would have even known.
Then we find out about this and people kick off like highly trained drama queens.
It was under our nose whole time and barely anybody noticed… This is (or was) least of the issue in pvp, plenty more issues that cause greater imbalance.
(No matchmaking, full premades vs pugs, teams starting healerless vs healers, bgs starting with one team having less players, no good gearing system, 100-200k hp players in same bg as 500-600k, dead bg rated system)
Better believe I can carry on but I will not…
This was barely an issue, not something that impacted my pvp much at all.
pvp scaling isnt a good system, i and many other would much prefer the WoD system or just plain pvp stats so that we can actually see the powers of our characters
but i dont get this controversy, people make it seem like a 310ilvl guy can just come in and oneshot a 480 geared guy because of ‘‘mUh pVp scAlinG’’
You do realise primary stats are still a thing right? It doesnt matter if you deal 5% less dmg to a guy if he has 1/4th the HP you have and has 1/4 the amount of agility/intellect/strength you have.
The scaling at the top end is wonky sure, and i reiterate, hidden systems are bad, but the people who are doomsaying about ‘‘GETTING BETTER GEAR IS BAD’’, no its not, getting better gear is good.
WoD gear system was okay. I would not object over what we have.
Korrak gear was best system I played, any item ingame is useful, sockets, enchants etc scale.
I farmed trinkets etc I never got to use and they was useful to sets I built.
And it was well balanced ( some bumps early that got hotfixed ).
Imo Korrak scaling system is best for casual pvp, we move up a tier into rated or intermediate (if such middle ground existed) then gear should take more important role.
Tbf im glad they fixed that. Now we know sockets are useles, mostly, and we know that there is nothing we can do about it gameplay wise. Its bad but i personaly see it be better than resocketing my 10 sockets every single arena, which will soon make even more problems and whines about how much it cost, and how it forces you to pay golds (sometimes tokens maybe [pay to win?]) to be competitive in pvp.
Tldr : imo this is lesser evil change which requires minimum work
ye WOD gear scaling was excellent. The gear simply scaled in item level and you could clearly see that on your screen. Entering a battleground with conquest gear equipped displayed item level 740, whereas in open world or in raids it displayed item level 710. Since WOD no longer had any “hard capped” stats such as Hit or Expertise, scaling was not an issue with regards to those. Your ilvl increased and all your primary and secondary stats got better.
BFA scaling system is a total disaster. Pure unmitigated mess. I never seen a PvP season that busted. And the worst thing is - all those systems are working in the background, they’re not even communicated to the player. You hit a 200k hp lowbie with 140k crit and see his HP barely budge. You’re thinking - the heck was that? A bug???
As for the sockets, you’re right - no one noticed until today because nobody expected gem sockets to actually work AGAINST you instead of FOR you. It’s like fundamental game rules 101 mate. As if, you drop a tennis ball and it falls down instead of flying up on its own. You can’t blame the players for not noticing an anomaly in something that is so obvious by design.
I wonder what else they’ll discover. He announced another potentially game-breaking discovery concerning rated BG’s and certain arena comps today. Maybe he was referring to void ritual stacking and hitting people for 1 000 000+ damage with chaos bolt? Therefore completely negating >200 corruption debuff, by needing just 1 gcd to oneshot multiple ppl?
One thing I also enjoyed about WoD PvP gear was the set effects also, I like azerites but honestly if they are contributing to these huge lags in larger battles I’d rather revert to that also. I did think azerites was a step forward tho, I like this instead of meta gems and enchants(to proffessions detriment) but yeah, not if it means unplayable lag in big fights.
Just goes to show that gems are really not that impactful I think, only really start to become noticable at the final stages of gearing and corruption really can increase what they offer. Even then really secondary gems fully stacked might we might notice more and that is with multipliers, or me anyway idk but 200 str in gems I don’t notice in my pool of 10k+ str.
Might be good for the squish, a lesson learned for the future? If our hp is going back down to 5k-10k regions then I would maybe notice gems more again like in past.
See now I don’t really object to this kind of stuff, the setup required is very situational and this certain one is likely to get you killed anyway. To put it into perspective a bit on how I feel, I think it’s fairer to be one-shot like this than 1 shot by 5 multiboxers Both are pretty crazy situation and both do happen atm but yeah, one is requiring much gear, items, specific build, timing and luck, other is good pc, money, time and limited to multibox style only.
multiboxing in pvp is another thing entirely, I really hated that, as 40 man BGS (and ashran) used to be infested with those. I mean, how do i even counter having 10 unstable afflictions on me? those warlock boxers literally one shot people with single dot cast.
Yeah I did not mind it in Ashran in WoD because it was more of a WPvP area, you could even sit in Ashran and pet battle, it was completely chill and you could jump in and out for different groups.
When you que up for a while and get dumped on, people insta leave you lose a fighting chance, that sux because it feels like a punishment compared taking something at a chill pace without an ending point just continous, I am sad lost these wpvp type bgs. Was good fun and a choice from current bg system.
Not really - saw a video where the stacks of Void Ritual persist after the person (author of the video on YT) swapped his gear that was stacking VR corruption (200 corruption) to a non corrupted gear, just before entering combat
I think this was the aspect that got hotfixed unless I hear wrong but aye not the toughest set-up in the world.
Warlock kind of has the ability to 1 hit ko many players if you stack the grimoire to 20 stacks, that situation is much more reasonable! If you could just swap the gear each time it would be ridiculous, you would be a 1 shotting machine so often compared to each infernal cd.
