Arena Hitbox normalization in Beta

Hi there,

it´s my first post and I am pretty much emotionally attached to this issue.
TBC was my best wow experience by far and I enjoyed arena a lot. When I heard about WOW Classic I got hyped for wow again with hoping TBC would be released at some point aswell.
I tried to figure out which warrior race I should played and after long thought I decided for Tauren against Orc (because my friends wanted to go Horde).
I knew it would be an way inferior decision for Vanilla classic but that was okay because I really looked forward for TBC and Arena where Tauren range would shine.
And because of the no-changes-approach which was communicated all the time by blizzard I felt quite secure that it would stay in.

With the change in the Beta (normalization in Arena) Tauren warriors are punished twice. Not only that their range is smaller in Arena. In duels/BGs where you can practice for arena the old Hitbox is applied which means you have to adapt all the time and can´t rely on reproducible mechanics.

I know that Tauren vs Tauren range is insane. But most of the time this situation occurs at a warrior chasing a druid and most of the time the druid is in a animal form where the hit box is minor.

I hope you will find another solution or keep hitboxes authentic to original TBC.

Agree, it is a strange decision to change something as fundamental as your hitbox specifically for arenas. Will really skew with your visual reference for when you should be able to hit a target, but also the range of charge/intercept/intervene(all being affected by combatreach/hitbox as well).

Tauren range has always been one of the old quirks about vanilla and TBC along with many other mechanics that makes the game for what it is.

If a change were to be made I’d rather see leeway be reduced than combatreach/hitbox.

Basically share the same sentiment, I picked Tauren looking forward to TBC.

Looking at the early beta of the leeway, yes it may have been a little overtuned and could be reduced slightly, but to completely normalize takes away the reasoning behind why I and many others picked Tauren.

Tauren should have a bigger hitbox, as they did in original TBC

Changing the hitboxes in arenas is not the solution we need. If you want to stop people attacking through pillars and floors you should change the game so that objects that obstructs line of sight also prevents auto attacks. The issue is not unique to arenas, it’s there in both battlegrounds and the open world as well, regardless of how thick the walls are. It also makes absolutely no sense from a RP persepctive.

Channeled spells not being stopped by LoS is also pretty dumb too ( thinking specifically Arcane Missiles / Drain Life )

i hope they at least enlarge gnomes hitbox if they are going to punish taurens by taking away their hidden racial (minor melee range increase) which in all honesty is a double edged sword to begin with since players can also hit the tauren player more easily.

Been playing arena on TBC beta for a while now on my tauren warrior, that i’ve played all of Classic on.

This change feels absolutely terrible to play with, visually i can hit a target but because of this change my warrior has gnome arms. Why make this very specific random nerf on a racial when there is plenty of absolutely broken ones in TBC?

I sincerely hope you revoke this change as it absolutely ruins the class and race combo, and if not, let us race change to orc instead.

I think a tauren warrior doing white hits through pillars in nagrand is dumb, and migth be a good thing to change, but removing our range is not the fix. Specially since it’s ONLY in arena which makes it completely unplayable if you like to duel or play BGs or even raid. You are essentially playing one race inside arena and one everywhere else, literally makes zero sense.

What blows my mind is that this, which is not a bug, is immediatley changed for no reason. But mages can still throw 5 ice lances into frost novas whithout breaking.
Removing frost nova from the game is not a fix for this btw.

Agreed, felt really bad playing arena with it - and they havn’t announced it as an official change, stealth nerfs are the worst.

Yea stealth nerfing a racial is actually insanity. Really hope blizzard revokes this change.

Sounds like a mage crying over aoe cap or slave pens nerf.

omg my character doesn’t have an advantage anymore QQ

Well that is the idea when you pick a certain class/spec and they change they change the rules afterwards. Normally in a live game that still develops that will happen, but here in ‘classic’ it is expected for certain things to be static.

But no worries, I have no doubt they will make paid race change a thing by the end of the expansion. They’re just way to keen on making money as the new ‘deluxe edition’ and ‘portal passes’ show.

This is super stupid. why would they nerf a race that just happens to be DECENT because of a combination of not so significant racials (warstomp, which is super situational especially in arena + the range). It really doesn’t make any sense especially that warstomp is already implicitly nerfed due to stun DRs in arena and not wanting to reset that with a 1.5 second stun. I dont mind the change but at least then allow us to change to orc if stealth nerfing is what you plan to do

like we went through such a disadvantage, and having to pay heinous amounts for edgemasters in classic just so we can play tbc with the range that just puts us on par (not an advantage) with other races. now you take that away too? (thought id post on my tauren warrior just to show the time invested in this)

Mon, Hexx be bummed out about this. I was tempted to create a tauren warrior. Dey be cool and dis little niche thing about dem intrigued me. Now I will probably just stick to orc. Shame.

Totally agree. For two years you think, I like my tauren warrior and thanks to the greater range he is not completely broken, and a few weeks before TBC you read about some hidden nerfs in forums…

Agreed, think this also removes the ability for Taurens to tank striders on Vashj, something that was done in the old days.

That should be fine - the hit box is only broken in arena, outside it works correctly. Far as I know there’s no other differences (other than ability to use consumables / switch gear etc) between the two so its very odd.

It really is a mish mash of everything, hard to keep track of without literally testing stuff to see the changes. I considered myself pretty well informed about TBC but every day new surprises, TBC Classic really is a different game.

Because that racial hit box behavior hurts balance in an environment (arena) where you want balance as much as possible.
