Hi I have a question related to the arena matching system. I have the feeling that always is very very easy to land 2-3 wins at the beginning and then the difficutly of the game increases significantly. Does the system matches my team with harder and harder teams to sllow down the progress?
can it be my feeling? I also have the feeling that even for unrated bgs many times blizzard tries to make teams of same level and gear quality.
No mmr doesmt reset. If ypu win at the start, then start losing, your mmr will drop fast as well. If you play 3 games and win them all then stop, your mmr will rise, and still be at that point next time you play.
If your always winning at start with higher mmr its purely coincidence, or else you tend to start your sessions when more casual people are on, and towards the end the higher skilled players are mainly the ones queuing, perhaps on alts.
This is something iv noticed as well this season, that players at say 1800 seem to be a lot better than 1800 players of pretty much any previous seasons. I think this is due to low representation though and only the better players can be bothered playing, with fewer players, and the players that still play tending to be the better ones, everyones ratings overall will be lower than previous seasons that had more participation
The elo system, or in WoW’s case and altered version, matches you against players it believes are equal to your skill level.
Every time you win, you’ll gain an increased MMR, and vice versa for losing.
The system essentially tries to calculate your chances of winning against an opposing team, and will then either reward you or punish you harder depending on the outcome.
For an example, if you match against a 1800 team, while your CR sits at 1700, the system will determine your chances of winning are lower, and punish you less should you lose (less rating lost). However, should you win an unfavourable match, you’ll be rewarded with even more rating than you’d normally get for a win.
This is why you tend to lose when you’ve won a few matches. The system believes you deserve to be higher up the ladder, and therefore match you against more challenging opponents.
Should you start losing a lot, the scale will tip and it’ll try to force you down the ladder, until you start winning again.
