I would like to open this topic once again since there are things that I think would be nice to consider and discuss. First of all I would like to address that most of the people I know, DONT DO ARENAS BECAUSE OF REWARDS OR POTENTIAL REWARDS (unlike any other content in the game), therefore we might talk about arenas that DOES NOT PROVIDE ARENA PLAYER AN ADVANTAGE OVER THE ONE WHO DOES NOT PLAY IT.
People are desperately calling for more content and this would be just one of the puzzle pieces, that could easily fill the space. As the arenas are already designed and ARE unquestionable part of Classic WOW (2/3 if we consider wotlk the last classic wow). I would like to know your opinions, why such a thing might be or might not be an option in future phases. I might start:
PROS
arenas would provide new content that is aboslutelly repeatable for hours - in between events and raids (1 raid atm)
arenas would provide a playground for players to improve and DISCOVER their personal skillset that might otherwise be harder to obtain in open world due to longer cooldowns, “unfair” encounters with multiple players of oposite factions, long run times for corpses etc.
arenas would be exactly the content you could do in between battlegrounds, since the queue times for horde is around 10 minutes each.
CONS
arenas would not be balanced, but that is why ARENA PLAYERS WOULD NOT BE GIVEN ANY ADVANTAGE OVER NON ARENA PLAYER, so people who dont enjoy it would simply not play it.
none
none
none
If there are people who have “ARENAS ARE THE WORST THAT EVER HAPPENED TO WOW” opinion, please, write it down and include the one that stands behind the “I dont like it, you wont be playing it either.” Let me understand the reason, why players who want to play it should not be able to play it in these conditions.
arenas are hardly new content. They are old content, that is repeatable, yes, but also repetitive. All this will accomplish is cause people to go out into the world even less.
the best way you can actually improve is to fight uneven odds, not even odds with a healbot on your buttocks to make you feel safe. If one wants to “learn” their class, relying on someone else wont accomplish that. Many such cases of highrated arena players being complete trash in 1v1 and 1vX scenarios, because they dont know how to actually utilize all of their tools at their disposal.
10min queue isnt even long, and has been the standard for horde for more than a decade. Its not that long, or are you a new player? Either way, you wont queue arena solo, and BGs you can queue with just one more person and shorten the q time to under 2 minutes. So this “pro” is a mute point.
As for the cons:
Kills participation in BGs
Lowers open world population
Creates elitist sects
Will undoubtedly cause a lot of QQ on the forum by random plebs about how unbalanced it is
People will make points about a class’ effectiveness in PvP based on these irrelevant arenas(some classes will be more effective with pillars than without).
I understand these arguments, but they seem to be a bit farfetched or contradictionary. But without numbers we cannot say for sure if either me or you are right or the truth is somewhere in between, which I believe is the case.
First of all, is 450 DPS (and basicly everything new implemented in SoD) on 40 lvl vanilla?
“there will be less people in open world, battlegrounds”
– do we know that for sure it would have noticable impact on these topics?
– you state that people will QQ about how unbalanced and crappy the arenas are, yet they will participate in them instead of going BG or open world?
“arenas are repeatable and repetitive, therefore there will be less people in the world and bgs”
– Will be? If they are repetitive and repeatable, dont people get fed by them a bit quick (wihtout rewards) especially, when they are so crappy and unbalanced?
“elitist sects”
– they are called guilds (irellevant)
“players will compensate lack of skill with healbots in arenas”
– I never said 1v1 arena should not be an option
– Have you seen how healers perform in phase 2? There is literally only one viable healer in pvp anyway.
– Wouldnt it bring more healers to be played outside of arenas, if they are at least somehow feasible inside of them?
– Even if they want to compensate with healbots, let them just have fun if they like it, as soon as it does not affect other players?
“people will QQ on forums the game is trash because of arenas”
– is being scared of people QQing on forums really the reason why you should not implement something like this and impoverish the rest who like actually playing it?
– People are making points about class effectivness in everthing. One more, one less.
– Joining arena Q could be signed with " I do accept the game is not balanced for arenas, therefore I wont go on a forum QQing" :)))))
P.S. No Im not new to the game. I played Vanilla, TBC (my favorite), Wotlk, WoD and Legion. Unfortunetally, no “mode” of ones stated above (first three are relevant for me) are available to play.
By not available I mean its either ending (wotlk) or its empty 5 years old full of bots and giant inflation (vanilla) or doesnt exist at all (TBC)
Hardly farfetched, I made no mention of your obviously subjective points but lets continue. Yes tbc proved that with the introduction of arenas, world pvp and BG participation reduced significantly. Classic TBC confirmed it once again.
People will whine about anything. The less they get to whine about, the better.
No, a lot of people wont get fed up with it without rewards, the same way a BG hero or a WPVPer doesnt get fed up with either.
1v1 arenas shouldnt exist. Theres this old culture of going to “dueltar” for example thats slowly getting ressurected.
i dont enjoy duel that much at all. but hey. lets add it to the game for the people that do enjoy it. just… please don’t make a “must do part” of the game or the min max joes will not add you to SM Graveyard anymore
sorry, i was not clear. i mean a neccesarry part of the game.
in a way of, you need (in SOD) to do like 50 duels a day and need Rank xy to get that special duel gear that will be zy good and only with that gear you will be alowed to any other content.
but yo, if is just for fun or style items. lets have propel duel event and all.
As in people are gathering outside durotar to duel once again, after years of it being dead because the sh!tfest that were the last decade of expansions. There is your “1v1 arenas”.
It was a combination of both arenas and flying mounts that contributed to the deterioration of Wpvp, arenas were far more impactful, as was dungeon finder later in wrath
You might be right with dueling in front of OG, which was also one of my favourites activities. Yet as I am sometimes trying to seek someone there, its usually 1 or 2 afk people (Wild Growth EU).
Alright by no unique rewards behind arena, not even titles. And god forbid you introduce a rating system or another skill-based mechanic. Also do not whine that classes are imbalanced in the arena.
They said a long time ago that there would be no arenas, so I don’t understand why you create new threads every time. Besides, they don’t read the EU forum.
I already posted about arenas in another thread, I’ll just quote it here:
Arenas could be a thing, but dont allow them to give rewards which cannot be obtained by other means. I’ve been wondering if arenas here could be made into a kind of brawlers guild type arrangement where it is in the open world and battles can be watched by other players. Never know, those who don’t really like PvP might learn something by observation and decide to give it a try.
Classic and SoD are games that ask of you to put in the time for the results. You can get top gear and the highest pvp rank just by grinding and showing up, you are not required to be the very best like no one ever was.
In a bg Jimbo Green can shoot his trusty bow and not be bothered by a xXxGodEaterxXx, a multiglad mage, who oneshots Jimbo by simply looking at him. Jimbo Green will rez and waddle back into the fray.
That won’t fly in arena, nuh-uh.
“Just introduce the mode, give no rewards, we won’t even even ask for balance!” would result in a lot of angry posts, saying that the mode’s DOA, that it obviously needs rewards and why the hell a priest can 1v2 mY TEAM?! BLIZZARD HELLO!?!?
Classic’s at it’s healthiest when it gives you an illusion that you accomplished something difficult. When it actually asks you to perform something that requires skill - people leave. Lots and lots of people. In droves.
