Completely separate PvE and PvP Elite gear models, like it was before WoD I think.
PvE gear keeps the 4 colors variations: LFR, N, HC, M.
PvP Elite gear gets 4 color variations: 2s,3s,Solo,RBG.
Honor Gear and Normal Conquest set share 1 model, different colors (they both don’t require anything other then currency to get, so they dont justify separate models).
This will not only make the elite sets stand out from the normal unranked pvp and pve sets, but also will promote competing in different brackets.
A traditional Shuffle player might start doing RBGs because that set is red that perticular season as opposed to blue or whatever.

I agree with you.
Sadly, casuals from General Discussion want the opposite. They want the Mage Tower skins from Legion. They want the Challenge Mode sets from MoP and WoD. They want old elite sets and gladiator mounts to be made available.
They want to remove the prestige of all those items so they can get their hands on them.
The prestigious of all the stuff is also listed in your achievements, nobody can have them anymore. Those are just some pixels, let them have that. It’s old content, some players didn’t play back then.

Nobody is inspecting achievements.
Everybody can see which mount you’re riding, which armor you’re wearing.
There are thousands of armor pieces in this game.
They can get other sets.
You know there are two sets of the classic pvp sets? Only classic player with tank 14 can mogg the real items, the rest needs to use the replica. Not look similar, this would be a good solution. Just call then replica, then everyone knows.

Nobody inspects you and then read the name of the items you transmog.
Recolors of these sets already exist. That’s plenty enough.
