Serves no purpose apart of trolling, so dear Death Knights, if you choose to use it on a heroic dungeon, with me as a tank, you’ll be removed promptly. Regardless if it’s daily dungeon / heroic dungeon.
On Raid bosses it’s fine.

Who cares? If boss doesnt have front cleave or tail swipe it doesnt matter. Let the ghouls tank.
No im not dk, im warr tank
I do more DPS than the rest of the party anyway, also good luck finding a DPS for a dungeon you already started.
i dont really mind the army, gives me less shlt to worry about. If the group dies to aggro afterwards because the boss is un-tauntable, just blame the dk.
What really triggers me though, is when i gather up all the adds (some are ranged) and get them all stacked. Then some mage/druid/ele comes up and knocks them all away, cuz of “dps”…
That really really gets me:P
This makes no sense. If the boss goes on the DPS/Healer after Army is over it means the tank was AFKing and built no threat, so it’s 100% tank’s fault.
Have you tried building threat as a warrior, when you are rage-starving? Because the boss isnt hitting you so you generate no rage?
By your logic it means that tanks NEVER lose threat, and dps can go ham ALL the time without ever worrying about threat. Both of us know thats not the case.
TBH this applies in my guild, get better tanks.
DKs and paladins are tanks that don’t really care if they hit or not to create the right level of threat. Rune Strike is cool, sure, but Ice Touch is cooler. Warriors and, God forgive me, bears are patient and nervous here.
The army only infuriates when you fight against a dragon with a breath.
Probably weak dps. HiHi
We don’t have weak DPS.
If the Army could taunt the boss, so can the MT. Problem solved!
Indeed it makes no sence =)
Tanks just need to learn that any boss that can be taunted doesnt need to waste resources (during army or air, as in EoE) before the taunt. Wait until its time to taunt, taunt, use everything you have. Not like some tanks the other way around.
Army vs tauntable mobs feels like griefing to the tank, Warrior perspective but you generate rage/threat by getting hit, if you don’t get hit you deal substantially less damage, and as a result, threat.
A tanks job is to take control of the situation, Army takes away control and makes the tank a sitting duck. If the tank doesn’t have threat after the Army is over, it’s the DK’s fault. Kinda one dimensional to look at this from a 1 target perspective too, these problems usually arrive in multi-target scenarios.
To be fair, I’ve popped Army of the Dead assuming it’d make a final boss EASY but if it’s anything with a directed AoE attack (i.e. Cyanigosa, Keristrasza, any of the dragons and a few others) then the boss is likely to obliterate DPS or the healer on Heroic + as it’s taunted every which direction. Found that out the hard way.
I only ever use AotD in raids or potential wipes, now. It’s a very good “oh s**t” button to give a wiping group the edge, and it’s virtually free DPS on a raid boss.
