So I returned to wow for the first time in around 10 years.
Took me a moment to get used to the huge changes and my lowered level (I was full tier 3…)
But looked forward to healing in dungeons again.
So I did like 10 runs or something and noticed I was hardly needed, its extremely easy. Went from lvl 32 to 43 in one evening.
Does it get harder again around level 50 or 60? Because this is really boring.
My mana regen is so FAST that I can just spam anything I want… whats up with that?
Im just hoping when I get a bit higher level the challenge comes back.
Does it? And around which level? Do I have to wait until Dragonflight?.. (lvl 60?)
Healing only really gets hard when you start doing really hard content like the later mythic raid bosses, mid-high keys or low rated arenas, until then your job is less healing and more like basic maintenance.
technically it is always easy to top up an empty health bar.
it gets difficult once you have to top health bars quickly, cover mistakes and whatch out many mechanics go out in a fight that are deadly.
personally i think healing gets more interesting on 16+ keys on tyrannical weeks.
some will think a +5 or a +25 starts to be challenging
Honestly nothing about leveling content these days are any kind of challenge due to the scaling being completely whack for anything but max lvl content.
Been like that the last few expansions sadly. Leveling is an after-thought and something to rush through.
Well, atm leveling content is a joke, you won’t get any challenge.
Normal/hc dungeons at max are also easy.
M+ levels2-7 will be still easy, but at some points you will click healing spells
M+ levels8-15 will have a spike in difficulty - players there are bad, they get hit a lot, damage doesn’t suddenly 1shot but it gives big damage spikes which you need to heal. Also no one ever interrupts, so all damgerous casts goes through and hurts whole party a lot. And if someone dies - you get the blame as a healer. This is the worst levels for sure.
16-18 - easy clap - just survive tyranical hps checks and you will have easy time. A lot of very good players will come for weekly vault.
+19 is very hard key level - no one wants to do it, players that do it are usually not experienced in 16+, and +19 is already punishing mistakes. And tyranical hps checks are hard.
+20 is easier, again you get decent players, just survive hps checks (some bosses you will need to sustai 150k hps for 3-4mins). Oh and if some dps gets hit by smth avoidable - mostly it’s a 1shot so you don’t need to heal it anyways. Same with dangerous casts - if something like dark echoes or shadowbolt volley goes through - it’s a group wipe and you can’t outheal it. If such casts goes through in +15 - group gets hit for 60% and you are the one that has to pump. All dungeon long.
+21 and above - this goes harder and harder…
I recently did a +7 UR on alt and honestly it was much harder to heal than a +20 with a competent group. I had to spend my big CDs on people mistakes, and I was left dry when I actually needed them. That was hard
I wouldn’t say that most avoidable damage equals oneshot in +20 keys. It’s more like two successive hits will kill you, and if you are unlucky both damage spells are directed at one person, which mostly means instant death.
Also there are some healing checks in higher keys that can’t be done without the help from your team mates. I’m thinking of the dragons in vortex pinnacle on a fortified week. The healing required there is insane. You need to use all of your healing cds and it’s still possible that you wipe if the dragon is not killed fast enough.
And I also wouldn’t say that people who play 20s and higher are more competent. I’ve seen many wipes in Neltharion’s lair because of the maggot. I’ve seen people not using defensive abilities. I’ve had an evoker who didn’t remove bleed effects. I’ve seen people ignore affixes. The list goes on. So much goes wrong on 20s and higher, it’s not funny.
On top of that, you can compensate for bad play from team mates in lower keys.
And I’m not sure that healing neccessarily feels challenging in higher keys either. You can have really nice groups that leave you feeling almost useless, and you can have groups that make you feel like your healing is not enough (which is not challenging anymore, just frustrating).
So although I agree with the general idea that healing in higher keys can feel challenging, it’s not that simple.
Mythic + 11 and above can be harder and gets progressively harder, this is due to Healing of Healers being nerfed whilst they buffed self healing. If dps don’t bother to self heal, as they aren’t actually healers, then you don’t have enough to help them…WELL DONE BLIZZ
Answer to your question is realy simple, while leveling nothing is hard. You dont even need the healer 90% of the time. Healing is only needed in endgame content realy.
20+ keystone levels on tyrannical, bosses like Talondrus in Uldaman, wind drake in Vortex Pinnacle and 3rd boss of Halls. U really want to press your healing spells correctly there or else your party will get very angry.
I healed a +9 Neltharus on Tyrannical and it wasn’t too bad, the hardest thing was watching bars and making sure I wasn’t standing in swirlees and other ground aoes (on hpal). I guess it depends on how good your group are and the affixes.
