Ask anyone you want some questions - forum fun thread

Hello gang,

do you ever wonder what other members of the community have been up to in their roleplay career? Curious as to what event your favourite or least favourite forum poster last attended? Well this is a thread where you sate your curiosity!

Each poster gets to ask a few questions to a person of their choice on the realm and exclusively on Argent Dawn. And we can ask anything (so long as it’s within the rules below and the forums code of conduct, so behave).

Once the person answers they get to ask a question as well, either from the person asking them before, who will be obligated to answer, or from another person, so the chain can continue.

To ensure everyone has a good time let’s establish some ground rules:

  • Please show the courtesy of answering a specific question with a specific answer.
  • You can forfeit answering a question by either not responding in the thread within 12 hours, or by directly stating in a comment that you won’t answer. Doing so will make you forfeit your round and the original questioner has to ask something from a different person instead.
  • On that note, do not stall your question and post it when you reply. If you fail to provide a question within the 12 hour limit, it will also count as you forfeiting your turn.
  • The questions can only relate to Argent Dawn server activities and role-play. Don’t go asking about someone’s personal life or what video game they last played, let’s keep the fun restricted to World of Warcraft and the RP or other activities within it.
  • Don’t post Gotcha! comments. If someone is caught lying then you can rest assured privately you were right about them all along.
  • No additional commentary, answers or derailing from other people required. If you have a burning desire to answer something wait for your turn.
  • Feel free to ask as many questions as you like (though within reason and also try to keep them related), it is down to the responder to decide how many they are willing to answer.
  • On that note, the same person can be only asked something two times a week to avoid a back and forth between the same people.
  • Do not ask the same question to the same person after they have missed their 12-hour window. They will have to wait for another opportunity, don’t break the flow!

Massive thanks and gratitude to @Elfculler for coming up with this great idea. I hope this time we’ll be able to keep the fun going! He and I will do our best to watch over this thread but I trust that won’t be very necessary and everyone will play nice.

I’ll start the chain with some questions to @Ortellus

I am curious about the cool roleplay addon that you have been building for the community.

  • What inspired you to create it? Is the development challenging?
  • What is the one feature you are most proud of?
  • How would you encourage someone who never used something similar in their roleplay to give it a chance?

So I started using another addon (Dicemaster) back in 2020, and that was something that really spurred me on to do DM events. It was refreshing to be able to see enemy health bars, models, track stats - all of that that sort of thing. Unfortunately, the addon’s development got put on hold so a lot of features that were broken by back-end changes to WoW’s addon API didn’t get fixed. Although it’s currently usable (some of it has been fixed recently), it still lacks some of the features that it once had, so I went about making my own unit frame (enemy health bar) tracker… then added dice rolls… then add an NPC editor…

And basically in the end I just said “to hell with it, we go all out”, so here I am now. Given how much my enjoyment of DMing was tied to Dicemaster, it’s good to have something that I am directly responsible for and that I can tailor to suit the events that I run (doing one rn actually!)

It’s not been especially challenging to develop, but things have slowed down recently as I iron out bugs, make the UI look better and add in functionality. I’m probably most pleased with the ability to stack multiple enemies on one raid marker - it basically blows the possibilities for events wide open and allows your party to fight more than eight enemies in total!

How would I encourage to give it a go? Honestly, the main argument I’ve ever heard for not using a roll system is that it ‘limits’ your character, but I think this is far from the truth. Events with RPT can be as challenging as you want, and if you’re someone that objects to the idea of your character ‘missing’ the enemy, you can simply set the thresholds super low and use it purely to measure how much damage is being done. But once you start to get your teeth into setting up events with these addons (and by that I meant either RPT or Dicemaster), you start to realise that you can make events that are more than just “roll 1-5 to kill X number of enemies” (none of which have any visually representation beside the raid marker).

Or basically I’d just say give it a go really. Check the forum thread and join the discord :^)

I call upon @Gruggosh - what are you most looking forward to in RP in the upcoming, say, month (or 3 months or 6 months idk)?

Happy to answer, Ortellus. I’ve recently returned from a hiatus spanning patch 10.1 to the prepatch of The War Within, so I’m naturally quite eager to dive back into roleplay. Lately, I’ve been on a creative streak and have written several storylines for various guilds, one of which ended just a few nights ago. We have plenty of plans for the coming months—a small campaign involving several guilds over the next three months or so, and there’s likely to be more after that.

I’m especially excited because I’m breaking the mold of what’s normally expected by my guild, and even some of my friends. I realize I haven’t been very active in the wider community since I started leading this guild in early Shadowlands, but that’s been changing, and it’s been a lot of fun meeting new people to roleplay with. What I’m looking forward to most is sharing our roleplay with even more folks across the server and making fresh connections.

As a small aside, I’m pretty excited to give your upcoming addon a try as well.

I’m continuing the chain by summoning @Distantpeak. I have a few quick questions: How do you like the expansion so far, and are you excited for what’s coming next in Warcraft? Any thoughts on the housing system they’re planning to implement?

Who dares summon me?!

Genuinely enjoying the expansion.
I like the Earthen and the Isles of Dorn.
The under ground aspects look nice and I’ve been enjoying the art, music and (to a lesser extent) the story.
The fact the goblins are getting overdue love is also noice! Hoping we, the great and mighty children of the Earth Mother, get similar.

Am I excited for Midnight? Sort of? Depends, I’m hoping void elves get more hair styles (including actually filling in non tentacle styles) and more void additons. Eyes, glowing void hands and more tentacles for those that want to chase the rabbit down that hole. Hope to see more Quel’Thalas and not just in a voidy bin, but rebuilt and modern.

Housing?
I will lose an inordinate amount of time to trying to get things exactly how I want. Styling things to the correct characters who will likely use it. (You’ll come to my Spirit Hut, right?)
But hope more toys and other bits come with it. Let me look like I’m doing DIY outside with a saw toy that let’s me cut a plank on loop or something.

My question goes to Obahar:
What are you enjoying in game?
Do you still RP a vulpera?
What drew you to RPing an old Alliance navy veteran and where are you hoping to take the character?

Honestly, I’m just glad to be RPing again. Winter tends to just give me bad vibes so I’m glad that the suns out and I’m feeling a bit more eager to engage with the hobbies I enjoy. Not big on the last two patches but TWW’s launch patch was so good that I genuinely don’t mind sitting out on Undermine.

No, sadly not. I’m likely to keep Salshe around as a character to do content on though. To speak candidly, I kind of felt that the main thing I had in common with the vulpera players I was in contact with was a dislike of certain trends within vulpera RP - not going to elaborate further, it’s the same thing I’ve always complained about there.

So the seafaring side of him was more originally intended as just a backdrop because it’s what I’m familiar with, I’ve done it a lot and so the lingo of it is just kinda in there. What I got into my head as an idea to explore was the idea of the worgen curse as a degenerative disease, something which progressively worsens over time, and for that an older character basically felt mandatory. It’s also not an angle I’ve explored too much, most of my toons over the years have skewed younger. I’m not sure where his end-goal lies, it’s more of a “let’s ride this out and see where it goes”, but at the moment I’m very happy with how the worgen curse feels like something genuinely horrific and not a minor inconvenience.

Got a person in mind and the question I want to ask them, but going to maybe leave it until tomorrow to put them in - it’s late and I’d like to give more warning than @ing them at midnight - I’ve saved it elsewhere though so I can just plop it in if they’re okay with it.

I’ll let it slide this time because I understand the sentiment and I get you don’t want the other person to miss their opportunity, but it’s not the point of the thread. The timer listed in the rules is already pretty generous enough and we want to keep a nice and steady flow going. If the person you’re asking misses the window then you will just how to wait for another opportunity to repeat the question.

I know the forums do not allow for pinging users which acts as a detriment to the thread but I hope someone else will point the person you wish to ask questions to this thread, so don’t be shy to ask people who aren’t on your discord friends list either. I encourage it!

Sorry about that! I’ll get the ball rolling again:

So, Keento! How has vulpera RP been in your eyes, what do you want to see more of and what would you personally like to see changed?

:dracthyr_sweat:

That’s not an easy question to answer.

The first thing that comes to mind, is that I would like to see more people attend the events. And I mean this in BOTH directions:

  • I would like to see more Vulpera players attend the public events being organized
  • I would like to see more players attend the Vulpera events being organized.

To give an example, we organized our “Grudges in the Sand” event this Wednesday.
Originally I wanted this just be a guild event, but we opened it up to the public, and I was quite happy to see some friends show up as well as “random” players coming to take a look at us vulpies beating each other up in Tanaris.

I do not wish to throw shade on anyone either, but a personal wish from my side is to also see more interaction between for example the “canon” Vulpera guilds as well as those in the A3 initiative. While I understand that we might have different views on stories and roleplay, we do play with the same base concepts, and can treat each other as AUs to just interact. Il Mizuk for example was an amazing cross-over for both sides.

Lore and Homebrew

This is something I feel we as Vulpera players need to seriously start expanding on.
We simply cannot wait on Blizzard anymore to actually start to provide us with Lore and information. We need to build our own world, and retconn it once Blizzard deigns us with some input.

To give an example, we have Duneblessed’s Paladin Concept.
I’ve made an attempt at making a Spirit Speaker that acts as a place between Druid and Shaman. But I feel we need more.

We need more Origin stories, we need more variants on where Vulpera live and reside.
We cannot just keep containing ourselves to just Vol’Dun.
We left Vol’Dun, we had Vulpera leave Vol’Dun in the past, and people need to play with this. Just because the game never showed it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

Friends and Allies

This is my personal take, and doesn’t apply to everyone, but I feel our guild has been making meaningful connections through RP.
We have friends at the moment on both the Alliance and Horde, we are connected to markets, we’re good friends with 2 other Vulpera friends, and I can honestly show up with Keento anywhere and know someone to talk to.

TL;DR: I feel that Vulpera RP has improved quite a bit since I started playing near the middle of Dragonflight, but there is definitely a lot of improvement possible.

New Question

My question will be for Verzan:

I want to organize a week long event in summer called “Festival of the Wind”, similar to Kosh’Harg but Vulepra theme’d. What do you recommend to organize and plan such a thing?

Question for @Corpseburner!

Have you ever played Alliance or were you always an orc? If so, what guilds might I know you from?

Please wait for your turn and don’t disrupt the chain.

Wait so you can only ask a question if you’ve been asked? Poor design philosophy smh.

right

Well, no matter. Let’s keep the chain going. Still waiting for @Verzan

@Keento since Verzan hasn’t answered you need to ask another individual a different question. Let’s keep the chain going.

@Chaermi

Plain and simple question: how does it feel to run one of the biggest Discord servers in the community

If this doesn’t work please have someone else take over because I am in San Francisco atm

My answer:
Exciting and I am thankful about the members being so nice with each other.
Till the very day, I enjoy looking at the server, see new people join, discover their interest in roleplay, ask questions. I love having a chat or a banter there. I never expected the server to grow as much as it did, I imagined it as a place for a few people staying informed on the RP Events on AD and that was it.
And sometimes, very rarely…I think about just banning everyone.

My question goes to Venn, so they have a chance to join in:
Where do you like to roleplay and where could people know your char from?

Nowadays my RP is limited to Alliance hubs and interactions with friends mostly because of RL time constraints. And I will add that Venn has been retired as a character for a good few years now and I only bring him out for special occasions or if I’m feeling nostalgic.

In the past, when I was far more active, I roleplayed all over Azeroth and beyond. My favourite hub has always been Duskwood for which my friends ceaselessly mock me to this day, but I keep insisting that there is decent RP to be found there if you look hard enough. And though I’ve roleplayed there the least out of all my adventures, I really enjoy the dark vibe of the zone.

But also Hillsbrad, wherein lies my favourite place on Azeroth - a small hill overlooking a valley situated underneath the hills of Strahnbrad.

The character you might know from Unit 14 or later on as Morfin Daffe. Beyond the character I was also Medwinn the death knight, Lut’rogg the Kor’kron shaman and his Iron Horde variant, the dwarven warrior Hennag, the undead warlock Victor Penroe, the dwarven death knight Balgerd, and others. I’ve been in many varied guilds, among them the Maelstrom Syndicate, Unit 14, the Lionheart, the Fallen Leaf, Rotgarde even for a while, the Kor’kron Vanguard, et cetera!

My question for @Corpseburner stands. Speak to me of your histories and misadventures, reviled one.

Corpseburner mentioned.

I have little to my name when it comes to this server and its people. Though my start in RP was always Horde-centric, my old adventures in the LosErrantes server had me embodying different characters. If any of you are familiar with the spanish RP scene during MoP to BFA you may know Firkleth the Blood Elf death knight, or chieftain Haurne of Taluha – a project I ran. I also played Kou’jin of Los Devotos, an Atal’ai villain guild that jonestown’d itself. Blademaster Ronkado, Kasa of the Dragonmaw… Quiebrapáramos of the Grimtotem. I was very active in the horde scene, mostly. And, while I wear the face of an orc, now, my love for Horde RP started out writing savage Tauren braves stalking through Feralas and commiting sabotage against the Banshee Queen’s supply routes.

Alliance-side, you may have spotted the old pandaren cook Shol at Senda del Jade, Varg the barbarian and Lucius Hawke, SI:7. I also ran a little crime guild in the Brawlpub, Emporio and participated as Lord Belegur in some dark fantasy cult RP.

I dipped my toes into ArgentDawn now and then over the years, Legion, BFA, Shadowlands… Though I’ve finally settled in during Dragonflight.

Currently? Well, not as active as I ought to be, sadly. I still play on Corpseburner and stalk the Valley in search of people to debate me in the marketplace of ideas (throw drinks at me). I do play with The Ashen, though. You may know me as the herb-smoking Zandalari who preaches wisdom in the odd hours of the night. I’ve also started leveling a new orc. So, expect some Shattered Hand in the near future.

Through and through, I love Horde – but you may indeed know me from Alliance. I participate in and co-run a little peace-treaty treading project about night elves and land disputes.

You may not know me from many places, really. Much like Corpseburner, I keep to myself and wear many faces to sneak about. I was present at the Kosh’harg, and many a gathering in the horde side. Varying characters, of course.

I don’t participate in many guilds, as I cannot fully commit to them beyond what I already have on my plate. There’s a high chance you have spotted one of my alts in one of your guilds some time, saw them participate for a couple days, then suddenly uni came down upon the poor writer like a medieval torture device and they vanished into the night.

TLDR; You may know me from the Good Ole Days of Spanish RP, some parts of AD, or… The forums.

There is an idea of a Corpseburner. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me, something illusory.

Haha. Just a jest for the website. Ahem.

CHAOS BOLT !!

I don’t know who to ask, now.
I suppose I’ll ask @Felentrick, if he’s checking the forums.

Hey Felen. I haven’t been checking in much. What’s next for the guild?

Looks like Felentrick missed the call, so @Corpseburner feel free to aim a question at someone else.

A pity, that.
Ah…

I don’t have many questions in mind. No good ones, mind you.

I’ll toss one to @Elfculler. I don’t know people’s alts but I’ll ASSUME he’s the RpPvP guy.

How’s it looking? Hopeful for potential faction war in the future?

If nobody responds in 12 hours, first-come first-serve on this pressing question: What was your last event like?

Good morning!

I wouldn’t claim to be The RP-PvP guy, merely made a thread championing the cause. As for how it’s going, it’s strong enough to satiate anyone but the total war enthusiasts. The Warsworn RP-PvP Discord/community organises fun skirmishes that I feel don’t overstay their welcome and allow most character types to attend.

I gave up on the idea that we are ever getting a fullblown faction war again. It’s a narrative that doesn’t mesh with the WAR BAD message Blizzard is pushing for the playerbase, settling for WAR GOOD AGAINST THE BIG BAD instead. I sooner expect Blizzard destroying the faction barriers and making War Mode an alternative timeline/nom-canon game mode than having a story abut us going to war against each other again.

@Galek I’m aware you don’t want new races added, but if you absolutely had to choose three, which ones would they be? What would those three races have as racials and how would they end up in their respective factions?
