I’ve never understood why an rpg needs an e-sports element.
PvP doesn’t really need a rating
M+ is fun, but again doesn’t really need a rating
MDI and RWF have no place in a fantasy RPG.
Compare M+ to Diablo 3’s rifts, they are also timed and infinite scaling difficulty, but there’s no competitive element and the game works fine.
PvP is competitive by nature however. And it has a non rating alternative for both Arena and BGs.
MDI we can agree since its Blizzard made. RWF was created by the community. RWF can only be flamed because Blizzard paid too much attention to it which gave birth to Sepulcher.
D3 Leaderboard begs to differ. The only difference is that you can run rifts solo.
The D3 leaderboard shows everyone up to a rank of 1000. Its set to your friendlist by default thats all. There is a leaderboard for solo (for each class), 2p, 3p, 4p and for each set. And many people play the season for said leaderboard.
While I now wish I hadn’t made that comparison, I remain unconvinced in the need for a m+ rating system, or indeed a PvP one. Getting loads of wins, or clearing a higher key than you thought possible is a reward in an rpg
I never argued against it. I left that out for a reason. I am indifferent to a rating system. It could be there or it couldnt. Wouldnt make a difference to me personally. However we had that in the past and the only result was that the community made their own leaderboards with rio score.
One could argue that Blizzard could restrict the API but then sites would just have people upload their stuff manually in one form or another.
