I’m planning on leveling this rogue as an alt for random BG PvP. Mainly want to one shot people in the opener. Since I enjoy assa more than sub I’m trying to figure out which talents, covenant and leggo to use.
My plan is to use subterfuge and vigor to be able to push out 3 ambushes on the opener and blindside for the ambush procs mid fight.
Now I’m unsure between MA for the additional crit on the ambushes which would line up perfectly with subterfuge and vigor or Doomblades for sustained damage. Doom seems to be the go to choice but my ambush opener build would probably profit more from MA even after the 9.1 nerf.
Second I’m uncertain between Necro, Venthyr and NF. Necro seems to be BiS for assa, especially due to that synergy with doomblades, but that’s a full on sustained build. Venthyr offers more flexibility in case I’d pivot towards sub in the future. NF has that rather weak sepsis but I’d get good mobility and Korayn build gives additional damage and crit on openers which again would line up with my ambush build.
Is that idea of using 3 max boosted ambushes on opener viable for random BGs? Don’t plan on doing arena or pushing high ratings in RBG. How much damage do ambush crits even do on an ilvl 200+ rogue with leggo and conduits?
Ambush won’t one shot anything. In fact it’s actually not even worth using over mutilate.
You generally open with MfD>kidney(internal bleeding)>garrotte>rupture
As for 3 ambushes - they would do less than 11k dmg probably? Give or take.
You’d also have no energy regeneration due to lack of bleeds.
Ambush was an old classic / tbc hard hitter. They days are gone.
Assassination big burst comes from shiv>(optional vanish if MA) Vendetta>trinket>flag(or sepsis last tick)>envenom>mfd>envenom
The bonus to nature damage from well placed steel effects sepsis end tick and boosts envenom.
I’d forget about ambush though.
If you want the “pew pew” die in a stun, sub all the way.
If you play around MA you don’t need to worry about crit gear as much, 100% can’t be beat anyway. Don’t discount NF though, the mastery buff, mobility and sepsis explosion timed right can be a game changer.
Everything that Woade posted above is correct, you won’t get anything close to an Assa one shot outside of some heavy luck and cooldown spam with Shiv - Envenom - MFD - Envenom.
If I might cynically add, if you want to one shot someone - roll a Ret Paladin.
