I have recently rekindled a love for my Assassin Rogue, But am finding outside of Shadow Dance and Vanish theres no way to refresh Garrote.
Mutilate feels WAY to expensive to be spammable to use in ST, Rupture doesn’t return enough energy (Or this could be i dont have enough haste to get energy back from the bleed ticks),
Thistle Tea recharges are WAY to long.
The current build i’m using : BMQAAWulQAmRd/c4Iy2r7VOUFIkkDkkEJAAAAAAAAJhkkkIAAAAAAASLEUCkkkkSKJJQSQkA
I could take Venom Rush for 7 Energy Refund on a poisoned target but not sure where to take talents from other nodes.
Please for the love of god could we have a way to refresh Garrote on targets which dont include major abilities “During Combat”, Maybe Shiv could refresh Garrote on a Single Target and maybe poison bomb could extend on AOE scenario,s (Or just make Garrote useable outside of stealth)
These are some of the issues i’m having with assassination but ofc it could be a L2P issue as last time I played Assassin properly was in MOP days.
Sadly, a lot of the Talents are bugged, broken or weak. The majority of Sin damage comes from Poisons. For example, Find Weakness does nothing for you, it’s just wasted points to get to Shadow Dance. Unless you really enjoy playing with Dance, it’s not really that strong. It’s fun, for sure, and the options it gives you with getting more Stealth abilities, Cheap Shot especially, is cool. But it’s really not that strong, and has very little synergy with the Spec’s Toolkit as a whole.
At the moment, there is very little actual choice to be made in Talents, especially on the Class side, and this is due there being very little cohesion or vision in how the Talent Trees are laid out.
Icy Veins has a great guide for Assassination Rogue. I’d suggest reading through it, starting off with the suggested builds.
Even if you decide to go against the guide, you’ll have a much better understanding on how the Spec functions overall. The suggested M+ build is a great starting place for most PvE content, be it Group or Solo.
As for some of the specifics you wrote about:
Garrote has a 6sec CD, refreshing is not an issue. You don’t need Stealth to use it. With Indiscriminate Carnage you can turn Garrote and Rupture into an AE ability, so use Carnage before pull, and roughly on CD after, if +2 Enemies. When you need to refresh Bleeds without it, it’s just a matter of Tab Targeting those Multi-DoTs.
You don’t Spam buttons as Sin. Think of it more like a rhythm game. You pool Energy, then use abilities. Mutilate has a high cost precisely for this reason, so that spamming attacks will drain you, leave you ineffective.
Drop Shadow Dance. Going down that path forces you to waste Talent Points, and you really can’t afford it. Instead, going down the Middle Path gives you Echoing Reprimand->Resounding Clarity , which offers you quite a bit more flexibility with Resource Use and Generation.
Thistle Tea sucks, but it’s still better, than the alternatives. You aren’t really using it for the Energy, because it doesn’t give that much. Instead, you are using it for the Mastery buff. The idea is to make sure you don’t cap Charges for it. Use it to help with Energy pooling, to smooth out the rotation, not as something you rely on heavily.
Practice your rotations on Training Dummies. This is more to get things into muscle memory, so pooling Energy and finding the right rhythm for the situation becomes easier, more fluid and natural to you. All that being said, while Sin is really good for Single Target, it is a bit lacking in AE situations, and the Class as a whole has some serious design issues. Right now, Subtlety is the easiest and most effective Spec. What abilities you use might be different, but Sin and Sub play fairly similarly overall, Sub just being stronger ATM.
Sure, here it is:
Open talents window
Click Specialization
Select Sub
Click Activate because it’s pretty much the only viable spec for Rogue at the moment.
Wait for the Rogue rework
Wow thank you for the constructive post!! Very much appreciated!, I will practice some more on training dummys I always felt like the idea is to mash buttons as soon as they are available so pooling energy wasnt really a consideration for me xD but that does make sense.
