Auction House scammers

The Auction House on my realm has a bunch of accounts exploiting buyers with thousands of entries like 20 linen cloth for 10 silver bid/700g buyout. Their names are full of accents and uncommon lettres to avoid being traced. Even normal bids like an adept elixir for 1,5g bid/700g buyout are cancelled because ofviously it’s not the point of selling stuff at normal market price, but to lure others into misclicking the buyout.

On Hydraxian Waterlords, before the server’s death, there was only 1 player doing this and for me it ruined and corrupted the feel of the server. I couldn’t understand why a GM was not interfering. It bugged me so hard that i was happy to leave HW. On Mirage Gateway, there are probably 20 of these and i see new names every week. It’s like a business model that is spreading like a virus: since it’s not punnished, people seem to accept it as a totally legit and normal way to make money and copy paste it into their game play.

Why is this allowed? It’s morally disgusting. It disrupts the spirit of community on the server. You cannot safely have fun on the AH, unless you’re armored to the teeth with addons not to fall victim to one of these entries.

I’ll assume they’re not really breaking actual game rules, but there could at least be some regulation in this scamming technique, like making it impossible to cancel an entry once it’s bid upon. Or even better: have a GM on the realm and confront these accounts with repercussions.

The fact you can cancel auctions that have been bid on is patently absurd and contrary to how an actual irl auction works.
Other than that, just get Auctionator and never look back.

Yep. Would fix the “issue” in an instant if it wasnt the case.

“Disgusting” really? It’s immoral to profit from someone’s lack of attention but it’s not against the rules. And no I don’t do it.

Imagine if people actually looked before buying, this would then stop completely. Blame the people not paying attention when buying, like you obviously didn’t pay attention OP when you bought some of these, not the people taking advantage of it.

Personally I use an addon called auctionator, which when you buy puts the stuff in buyout price order.

On Mirage Raceway horde side? There’s 2 of them with the high BO prices, you must be talking about the Alliance side. Nevertheless, Auctioneer allows you to sort every column (dunno about Auctionator) so you can actually sort it on the cheapest buyout.

There’s a 3rd but with way less bizarre prices, he’s slightly overpriced but puts them on the AH for around 20 copper bid which also puts them on top with the default sorting, this person has names starting with “Anna” with a load of characters behind it, he switches names regularly but always starts with “Anna”. The person is on every single pve server he’s present on each side, dunno about the pvp servers. He also puts them on the AH with the only goal to have ppl buy his auctions out, his auctions bidded upon are being cancelled.

Blizzard should change the default from sorting on bid prices to sorting on buyout prices to rot these creeps out of business.

In the mean while, watch what you’re buying for which prices.

I agree.

I don’t use AH addons but I found that sorting by level works for showing the lowest buyout price

Just stop people cancelling Auctions with bids, issue goes away instantly.

Alternatively remove the bid option and have Buyout only.

Or they can just change it so you cant cancle an auction if someone bid on it. That way you dont need an addon to be able to use the AH properly.

@dottie

Literally blaming the victim, gj :slight_smile:

@Shioban

Heya, i mean on alliance side indeed. Sorting by default on buyout price instead of bid, sounds like a good idea.

dottie is full of crap again, these animals cant be reported because of the accents in their name, and coincidentaly they are usually bots. ive had a chat with a person on my server that does this for a living, he is iranian and has 2 ah bots that sell, buy and undercut, 4 bots that farm open world and a 5 man bot squad that clears dungeons. he told me that from all of these, the ah bots are most profitable and never gotten banned/reported, same with dungeon farm ones, meanwhile his 4 open world bots get an ocassional ban every couple months but its irrelevant for his profits

They can, i managed to get the 2 on mirage raceway horde on my friendslist aswell 1 of them on alliance side, it just takes a bit of time to find the exact spellings of their names.

However, what would you report them for? Exploiting the fact that ppl don’t look at what they buy? Exploiting the default sorting of the AH? They’ll prolly tell us that at this moment there’s very little they can do, take it on the forums in the hopes a blue passes it on to the right ppl.

“Victim”, nah, inattentive, Yes. I was going to add another unflattering word to the last part but I thought it too cruel.

Caveat Emptor.

Guess what? IT’S NOT AGAINST THE RULES, you can put an auction on for any amount you like so you can’t report them.

I am 100% truthful in this post, if you don’t like it then say so, and also say why I am wrong, and don’t resort to cheap insults.

Btw, searching by level and/or location will give you less than 50 results on most realms. From that you whisper them then you can report them.

Also Print Screen gives you a screenshot you can send to hacks@blizzard.com but don’t forget to say why you can’t use the ingame system.

Not being able to report them, ha!

The other day I bought an Insight for 2x Jah and 1x ber, it was supposed to be an Infinity…

If ppl are falling for this im sorry i haven’t done it.

If i wasn’t so easy going i’d give it a try with 1-2 auctions, it’s like in real life you need to pay attention or get addon.
