Auction House throttling based on realm population?

Bold move from them, especially these days when a lot of people are playing the Auction House game to get 5 million gold for the Longboy mount. They just pissed off a big portion of their player base, also there are so many youtube channels out there about wow gold farming, transmog farming, crafting professions etc … so this hotfix will be a big topic to talk about for the upcoming 2-3 weeks .

Describing the problem in a nutshell :

So basically this Auction House bottlenecking meant to be implemented against " small minority of all players generate the majority of Auction House traffic" (copied from the official blue post). These players mostly have a second account only for performing undercut scans with TSM, all day 24/7.
So again “small minority of all players”. This results in a whole lot of API calls to the Auction House API , in result some services are responding slowly.

So why the majority of players are penalized for a small percentage?
Well, only the Dev team knows the answer for that question.

Is this the right solution fixing the problem ?

Yes, and No.

For high pop servers with slow Auction house, YES.
For med-low pop servers where the AH was pretty fast already ,clearly… NO.

For regular wow players, YES
For AH gankers NO ( well played Blizz)
For Longboy farmers ???

I post my items on a high pop realm as well as on a medium pop realm with TSM of course. NO i’m not an AH ganker, i’m just a regular wow player posting my 300-400 items daily with an AH addon.

Remember, on all realms your posting and canceling process gets throttled after 50-60 auctions from now on. After that, you can post 1 auction per 4 seconds for a minute which is pretty meh…

So after posting all of my items today i realized that may daily AH routine just got sped up a bit on my high pop realm, thx Dev team:D But playing the AH on my medium pop realm got so much slower, i hate it after 1 hour.

Conclusion

This new system looks good i think, not perfect, but a good start … needs fine tuning. Obviously where there are more players there is a bigger market for making gold, this means more AH goblins, slower Auction House.

Actually i think they should apply this throttle script only to high population realms. Other solution would be to increase the the API call cap, so the throttle effect kicks in after 75-90 calls.( apply only to med-low pop realms)

  • Good change for high population realms.
  • Medium and Low population realms … ahh poor players there :S
  • Really bad for AH gankers (thx Blizz)

Also, as a sidenote,
poor transmog farmers, i think Blizz just killed that market.

As a normal AH user can I ask how you are posting 300-400 items daily? Purely out of curiosity.

Is that included stacks of 200 cloth for instance?

I’d assume with TSM.

I think when the OP says “normal AH user”, he means one that doesn’t cancel scan thousands of auctions a day. Rather than one that only uses the standard AH UI.

I really dont see the problem with it , if you use TSM and play the AH , you will eventually get the throttling but if you play the AH normally it wont happen , just dont use addons for the AH ? This is a good thing

That is your choice of course.
But add-ons are allowed and the standard AH UI is terrible compared with TSM.
If add-ons weren’t allowed, there would be many fewer items on the AH. Especially on low pop realms. For example, the transmog market just wouldn’t be viable without add-ons. Because it sells so slowly, you need at least 800-1000 auctions posted at any one time for it to be worthwhile.

The new AH UI is really not that bad honestly , and its pretty smooth to look through it.

Also the people that will be upset over this change will be a minority as most people just use the auction house to sell a few things or buy their consumables

It’s not bad… unless you want to sell more than 10 things.

Or if you want to post something that doesn’t exist on the ah currently. Very often the case with transmog. It would be a pain having to guess or look up the value of each item when you don’t know their market value.

I’m a transmog* farmer.
It really hurts i post thousands of posts (plus all the mats i can farm during my session), spending hours in front of the Auction House and not really playing will be hard.

I don’t have a second account to post so it doesn’t help :frowning:

I am baffled, been reading a lot of the comments in here today, about the advantage TSM apparently gives you, how it is a bot and so on.

Do people even know what TSM do?

First of all, as of now it comes with a base group and some base operations, witch post 5 items at a time, and post it at the current lowest buy out price. If that is a 100 gold i puts out 5 item at 100 gold. Same as you would do with the WOW AH UI.

Second of all, there is no grantee that you can’t loose gold with TSM. If you buy mats for 10000 gold, and make all BFA enchants without thinking, you will lose money. With or with out TSM.

Third, yes you can make rules in TSM for what you make, say I only want to craft things that 100 gold profit, and it will show you what i profitable right now, but you have to tell trough TSM “rules” to do that, is does not do at all by it self. You still have to buy and make the stuff. As an enchanter you still have to sit there and click the button to enchant the enchanting vellum.

Fourth, to make all the rules to post this and that, show me what profitable you spend many many hours setting up TSM, I’ve spent hours, day, week and months learning what sell and what does not.

Five, so people you want to make gold, but no matter how to turn this with or without TSM people who are willing to spend time, energy and learning their servers market will earn much more money then a person you just get and BOE and post it with any though process.

TSM IS A TOOL, and the tool is not better or worse then the user wielding it. If you give a new play a character from a Method raider would they be world first, most likely not. Same goes here, people who have spent lot off their time learning all this about their server are getting punished for the people blatantly botting and actually ruining the game with or with out addons.
