Audio mixing in Dragonflight is unbearable

Audio mixing this expansion is the worst it has ever been. The worst culprit is the roar of the dragonriding mount. It roars at random uncontrollable times and is ten times louder than any other sound in the game. I tried reducing my effects volume but it doesn’t affect it. I can’t find a separate option to reduce the volume of it.

I’m having to resort to massively turning down all volume whenever I use dragonriding, which in an expansion where that is a core feature happens a lot, which completely takes me out of the immersion and the story and I can’t enjoy the atmospheric music or ambience sounds because of it. I end up doing my best to avoid using my dragonriding mount even though it could help me get places quicker. Even that is not enough though because other people using their dragonriding mounts nearby at times I can’t control nor anticipate are almost as ridiculously loud. I don’t want to make the entire game quiet just to avoid that… I want to enjoy the story and atmosphere but I can’t because of this horrible audio mix!

Sometimes as part of the campaign the game automatically turns on my dragonriding mount and I don’t have time to react to turn down the volume quickly enough!

On top of that, the usual some music is super loud and other is super quiet and have to constantly readjust the music volume. Same for speech. So instead of having a flow state of enjoying the story I am constantly going in and out of configuration windows and worrying I am going to have my neighbor call the cops on me or at least threaten to.

Please fix this horrible audio mix issue ASAP or give us an option to adjust the volume of dragonriding mount roar at the very least. I might just drop the game due to this one issue as a person who often struggles with sensory overload.

Edit: ok, I think I figured it out… the issue is it is associated with the dialog option, which normally is super quiet compared to everything else so I have it to 100 percent, so at least now I can adjust it to something lower when I am not hearing dialog… assuming I don’t get into a situation where a cutscene starts before I have time to adjust.

This is still horrible, but at least I found a knob to adjust it partially. A quick fix could be to associate it with effects, which is where it should have been to begin with IMO.

Second edit: Ok, I got all the various dragon roaring in the game to be balanced by turning down dialog and effects to 20 percent compared to music and ambience at 100 percent. Now I can barely hear any sound effect besides dragon roaring and I can barely hear dialog, but at least the roars don’t hurt my brain. If it was just effects, I wouldn’t complain, I’m already used to that issue but I want to hear the voice acting. Please fix and put all roars under effects.

do you like this sound mixing?

Yeah, a friend and I were both wondering why the dragonriding mount is so damn loud, but I told her we probably shouldn’t expect perfect audio mixing from such a small indie company. :person_shrugging:

Tamed Eagle trinket.
Made to annoy.

Yeaaah… I think that your dragon is near a glyph or something. Or have you collected them all?

Main reason why i still use now almost 20yo discrete sound card as it has real time loudness “normalizer”

The real war in warcraft has finally begun, the loudness war

An issue I’ve encountered is, most of the audio options aren’t under the setting they’re supposed to be.
In-game dialogue such as /flirt emotes, /laugh, / silly etc- aren’t affected by the Dialogue option. For some reason, their audio is only affected by ‘sound effects’ which means I have to fight between hearing character interaction or having my ears bleed from melee sounds.
