So i am back after a lenghty break from WoW.

I geared my char some and now i wanted to start doing some M+ to kill some time.
But now the game does not let me choose a title nor write a description, until i use Blizzards autenticator and SMS protect. I guess it’s to hinder gold sellers and service providers to abuse these options.

I refused to give blizzard my tel. number for years now, because i think it is a private thing and none of blizzards bussines and i will not start now.

So is there a way to enable these for M+ essential options, to choose a title like “M0 plaguefall” and enter a description like “i dont care if it is in time”, without giving them my tel number?

Because like i wrote it is none of blizzards bussines to know my number and use that at their discretion.

There sure must be an option somewhere i overlooked, because i think it can not be legal to close certain parts of the game i payed for behind personal information, they sure have no right to just demand.

if there are no options other then to give blizz a tel number, then there should be more options to choose from to set up a lfm group in the group finder, without typing stuff.

well at least you can choose “standart” “completion” “beat timer”.

No, if you do not add the requirements set by Blizzard you can only use the default listing options.

Blizzard retains the right given by you, as you’ve read and agreed upon receiving the contract to modify the game etc. In this case, the modification was announced beforehand and you continued to play the game.

You can discuss with consumer organisations/lawyers about the legalese, the privacy policy is also included in the “legal” tab at the bottom of this page.

I had to read up a little bit since they modified the EULA this year just yesterday in fact, it was written differently in more sections before that.

But if you do have concerns you should discuss with your local consumer organisations about whether what Blizzard asks for their M+ listings is acceptable or not. It does concern your data after all!

I don’t understand why people are so reluctant to give phone numbers. On an open forum or anywhere in public, sure, keep it quiet. But Blizzard only want it to be able a) to help protect your account and b) to help recover it if it’s stolen.
They are bound by all kinds of privacy laws and I would imagine that any employee trying to make use of the phone number for any other purpose would be sacked and probably prosecuted. EU privacy laws are very strict.

I think they use it for more then that. Statistics, agreements with other companies, and when im beeing paranoid knowing exactly who i am, where i live, what i buy, like and dislike.

just making sure none of that happens ^^

edit. i wrote once on Youtube that i smoke in a comment, now im getting al sorts of stop smoking adds… so yes im paranoid about personal information.

Well, they’ve had my phone number for 18 years and, to the best of my knowledge, have never used it for nefarious reasons.

Because I don’t receive spam calls on my phone, in fact it’s rarely used as a phone at all as I have bad reception where I live.

I think YT’s privacy policy differs as in that they may use public supplied information (like comments) for their ad network under “personalised ads)”.

I still recommend to read the Blizzard Privacy Policy though.

so you don’t actualy know. You just hope and cross your fingers, noone is collecting your data.

That is fine no need to go back and forth with this. For you it is no problem, for me it is a problem.

Blizzard allready has your adress and all kinds of things, you really think your phone number will magically make it so mutch worse than it is?

Blizzard could only have my Adress, if the credit card company i pay the bill with, gave that information to blizzard.

Wich would prove my point.

And since i am european, i should be protected from that.
Well should - who can prove they don’t have/do have - data that is protected by law.

Like i said just making sure they do not have my tel number at least.

Thanks for giving them a good laugh. In this day and age, everyone needs a good laugh.

Blizzard, as a private company, has the right to restrict their services upon certain conditions being met nor not met.

You don’t want to give them your phone number, thats fine, you don’t have to. Blizzard doesn’t have to give you access to certain features either.

I dissagree with you Trovlak even a private company is not above the law.

Maby you remember, a couple years back, blizz decided that people in the forums had to give personal data (real name) to be able to write stuff, to stop the trolling and missbehaving.

Well that was not legal. They had to hire people to moderate the forums and none of us has to log in with their real names today.

Now they want personal information again, but hide it a little better. Wanting your/my tel. number to access functions in the game. And that is ok to, as long it was a couple more slots in your/my backback, not actualy locking essential functions of the game behind it.

This still can’t be legal. It is propably more accepted today because people are used to just give their tel nr. and personal data away, using their phone to as example buy stuff (wich i dont do).

And im ok with it as long it is voluntarily. But this is not voluntarily.
I can not open a LFM group and define what i want to do, therefore they are limiting my game experience behind a “wall” that is my personal information.

Well an easy solution like i suggested would be to give me/us more options to define in the LFM window what i want to do, without having to write anything. With that this thread would not even exist.

Description
this is actualy fine with the 3 options they provide but more wouldnt hurt either.

No need to get angry because i refuse to give away my personal data.
I do give them money - i am sure they like that ^^

I wrote in the suggestion window in game, that they probably just forgot to implement that function. Buut this is blizzard, they might have done it on purpose…
