Hey Shammytone!
If your authenticator is having trouble they can be removed with the serial number if you have SMS protect. If you don’t have SMS protect we can help you with removing it manually, but it will involve getting in contact with our support team. Details for both can be found here.
Can you not just open it up, and replace the battery? Or did Blizzard decide to glue them shut, with no replaceable battery? Stupid decision if so. Not even my banks authenticator dongle is glued shut.
The old physical device does not have replaceable battery. Once it loses power I assume it loses the ability to track time and can’t create correct codes even if you manage to replace the battery.
This is ofc maybe a bit late, but someone might look for this info regardless so i’m posting this as a suppliment.
I have a physical authenticator that was on showing the “low batt” error. As i didnt want to go over to using an app i deciced to open the thing and sure enough there were a regular battery that i had some spare of, so i changed it and it still works as earlier.
The battery was a flat 3V Sony CR2032, but i recon any of that type will do (mine was not Sony but the same type, CR2032)
Please do not bump or necro old posts.
