I do, because I don’t enjoy the queues as DPS. There’s several things Blizzard can do to make more healers play but they’re not willing to do it, all we get is that we cap our conquest faster and thus play less games.
Fair enough. i honestly dont care the only ones i ever put on ignore tend to be spamming bots
I wanted to say the ignore list is only 50. But if you keep removing and putting other players on it to update it to the currently active players that would probably cause some issues yeah. Arenas got way too small teams and amount of players to allow avoiding.
Even 2-3 avoids per player have been enough to cause problems in Overwatch as far as matchmaking goes, especially if you play on off-peak hours.
Following recent changes to characters like McCree and Widowmaker, Blizzard is now turning its attention to Overwatch’s matchmaking system. Specifically, the game will no longer feature an “Avoid This Player” matchmaking option, since it’s creating a worse experience for some players.
In short, Avoid This Player is a feature which lets you selectively choose someone you don’t want to play with, usually because of differences in skill. While that sounds find on principle, in reality the feature has been throwing some major wrenches into Overwatch’s matchmaking capabilities.
“One of the best Widowmaker players in the world complained to us about long queue times,” director Jeff Kaplan explained. “We looked into it and found that hundreds of other players had avoided him (he’s a nice guy – they avoided him because they did not want to play against him, not because of misbehavior). The end result was that it took him an extremely long time to find a match. The worst part was, by the time he finally got a match, he had been waiting so long that the system had “opened up” to lower skill players. Now one of the best Widowmaker players was facing off against players at a lower skill level.”
Now you see why there has to be a deterrence to placing other players on an “Avoid” list.
Yep. Conquest payout should not be buffed. Just give more honor and more Marks of Honor.
I’ll go even further and suggest that for every 50 rated matches completed as a role under PvP CtA, you get an extra saddle.
-=EDIT=-
In that Overwatch article, you can see why the system failed. Because the Avoid system they implemented did not hurt the players who actively used it; it was designed to hurt the player on the Avoid list!
My suggestion tries to reduce that for the avoided player, and actively hurt the avoiders. Under my system, that Widowmaker would still get in games in regular times, while whoever had him on their Avoid list would have their queue times extended.
Except that would take hundreds of people out of the queue, increasing queue times for everyone, in that case. That would be a disaster in regards to queue times & matchmaking quality.
For a moment i thought it was overwatch 2 and wanted to say its because of their low playerbase nowadays. But seeing the year of the article i guess its the OG one wich had more players.
But yeah reading that article i totally can see how some of the better people would get on avoid. And despite their queue not being paused as exiasee said but the one who put them on the ignore list. If you are well known enough at some point it will still affect the queue time of the avoided person because alot of people put them on there
Again no. It seems I need to use names and numbers:
So here’s the queue right now with 25 people:
Alex, Bob, Chris, Diana, Eve, Falstad, George, Harris, Ivy, John, Kockroach, Leo, Mandy, Nancy, Othelo, Peter, Quagmire, Ron, Sir Murlington, Thomas, Uranus, Vermin, Wololo, X360, and Ysoserious
Of the above, the following 5 have placed Zoe on Avoid:
Alex, Eve, Ivy, Othelo and Uranus
Zoe queues. Now the above 5 are placed on pause: Alex, Eve, Ivy, Othelo and Uranus are now paused in queue.
So the next 3v3 match will have:
Bob, Chris, Diana, Falstad, George, Harris
The 3v3 match after that will have:
John, Kockroach, Leo, Mandy, Nancy, Peter
Note that the queue at this point is:
Alex, Eve, Ivy, Othelo, Quagmire, Ron, Sir Murlington, Thomas, Uranus, Vermin, Wololo, X360, Ysoserious and Zoe
Next 3v3 match will get:
Quagmire, Ron, Sir Murlington, Thomas, Vermin, Wololo
Queue now is: Alex, Eve, Ivy, Othelo, Uranus, X360, Ysoserious and Zoe
Zoe’s time in queue is barely affected, and the same applies for everyone who queues later than Zoe and doesn’t have Zoe on Avoid. But the vowel people above are constantly losing their turn because they want to game the system to their favour.
Right now there’s 36k people playing OW2 through steam. I’d wager that there’s some 300k people playing it through the Blizzard client, maybe 400k, if we’re to go by how it looks with other games that have several places where you can play it.
Then they’re split up by several regions. They’re split by MMR. They’re split on servers within a region depending on which server gives the best ping(I basically only get the finnish server in it now that they introduced it instead of the amsterdam or paris server, because I get petter ping to it). They’re split up by gamemodes.
There’s maybe what… 1000-2000? people at say, platinum, queueing competitive at any given time on the server that’s right for your ping and matches all the other variables. If you remove hundreds of the others that match those variables, queues and matchmaking quality will deteroriate, a lot.
Those players remove themselves by wanting to game the system to their favor. If they want to queue at their appropriate time, they must keep their Avoid list as close to empty as possible.
I am here giving a suggestion for people who don’t want to fight a toxic person.
If I don’t want to go on the bus as someone who smells, and we are both at the same station waiting for it, then either I suck it up and enter the bus with the smelly person, or I stay off and keep waiting for the next bus. And the same decision is given to every other passenger as well.
Except it would affect everyone. Not just them. There’s not enough players with the right variables(ping, mmr, region etc) for decent matchmaking & good queue times if you remove hundreds matching those variables from the queue.
You act as if you intend to place almost everyone who is better than you on an Avoid list.
Again, under my system you will hurt your own queue, not the queue of that person and everyone else who queues after them.
But there more what what ifs wich might affect this. What if zoe actually ignored someone who was better than her because she wanted to win. And what if the avoid function gets used like this by alot of more people. At some point the someone might still get so many avoids theres not enough people to play with anymore.
Like what happened in that article about the widowmaker player.
Also pvp guilds and communities potentially would turn out to be cartels. Avoiding certain people as a group. as a way to block them out entirely
It might work in random bgs during the day but with arenas for example avoiding would be far too abusable. The smaller the playerbase doing the content gets the more issues avoids would cause. I personally tend to play at late times. And even inrandom bgs the queue pool tends to get stagnate at night.
This is blatantly not true.
It will hurt the queues.
We’ve seen how these avoid systems are used by the populace in games where they exist.
It won’t be just a handful of players removed from the queues, it will be enough to cause problems in the matchmaking for everyone.
And seeing how the mass report function gets abused in WoW, i think we can be 100% sure the avoid system is going to get abused as well.
I mean come on even on the forums people use the flagging/reporting option like some sort of downvote
The downvote system that existed previously on these forums… It was meant to be used for problematic posts but people just massively downvoted everyone they didn’t agree with, lmao.
That’s why they removed it.
This is what they said about it:
Yes, we’ve recently pushed an update to the WoW forums that removes the ability to downvote posts made by other players.
We originally added this feature as a means for players to assist with forum moderation by upvoting helpful posts and downvoting inappropriate or toxic posts. In practice, however, we found that it was primarily being used for things like downvoting a post simply because they disagreed with it, which was not the intent, and too often led to different opinions getting unfairly buried. Moving to an upvotes-only environment will remove this unintended abuse, while still allowing players to give recognition to posts that have a positive impact on the World of Warcraft community.
Yep i know, and now some of the people who abused the downvote functions to bury comments are abusing the flagging options the same way
I remember years back when the downvotes existed there was a hardcore sylvanas fan on the forums. I remember a specific topic where anyone who did not worship sylvanas as some sort of infallible perfect creature got burried with downvotes. I really dont understand why people come to forums and then want to report hide every single comment that does not agree with them, or subjects they dont like
Game needs more positivity and encourage being more social, this is an MMO not a single player game, however solo play is fine but not for long period of times.
More positivity and you wont even need the ignore function or avoid option, people will just be nice and feel less annoyed.
Now i see that some have missunderstood my sugestion. The ignore option works fine for Pve however LFR/LFG could benefit from a more controlled kick option… such as a automatic removal if player is doing the opposite of their role. or goes afk. people miss use the kick button way to often.
Now the problem i mentioned with avoid players is strictly for PVP as many people are just insanely rude and they attack who ever they can without anything happening. So avoid players would be handy there. Now it would be even better if action was actualy made against these players but blizz seem to busy to do so. So avoid feature would help the less angry players in pvp avoid the angry players.
Even if that means i get placed in a longer que due to the toxic player queing over and over. As a final thing if it was to be added then it should be added as a system that properly warn blizz about player behaviour and they monitor the chat of this player to see if the avoiding is justified or if the person just had a bad day. This can help the game properly punish the toxic/hatefull players.
But as people pointed out. We do need a punishment system for those who abuse the ignore/report/avoid/kick feature as it is very wrong that people get to do this with others who is innocent. Just cus they performed poorly.
Well, the customer service and such things have been kind of gutted. So i really cant see them invest into more manpower into approving avoiding requests because people are acting like children. Especially concidering this kind of feature would get used ALOT by some people. Seeing how sometimes there are topics about increasing the ignore limit to 1000 for example instead of 50. People who need such large ignorelists like would be clicking the avoid button all day flooding the poor blizz employees going over this stuff with requests over the slightest thing
Same issue here, they just basicly automated customer support and reports. There is no way to punish people unless you have actual people going trough every single report. Wich would take alot of manpower
I miss the feature from SWTOR that prevents the matchmaking system putting you into group with ppl on your ignorelist. And it is even account wide.
