Awful talents for frost in DF

Hi,

Beyond a joke sadly. Took everything from shadowlands and put into a talent tree. Will play out just as current frost mage bur loosing stuff and not gainig anythig

Frostbolt cone blizzard etc all do 1% dmg to someone in pvp without modifiers. No stuns , no way to stop escaping targets. TON of defensives and no intersting offensive options

There were too many talents that were either not good, or should be baseline in general, also unlike most other builds, it’s basically impossible to be competent at aoe and st at the same, while obviously giving up something, but not too much.

Most specs can do both at the same time, and be competent at both, for frost you have to specialize, and you will lose a ton of damage either aoe or st, for me that is a massive drawback.

There is potential though, some of these talents are cool.

Some new talents are not that bad, like Wintertide that addresses proc overlap.

However, Frost Mage tree still needs a decent amount of work. I would suggest things like:

  • Reduce number of talents needed to improve Icy Veins (but do not reduce the effects). 8 talents in 20+ point part of tree (that gives 10 points to spend) and 9 points totally is excessive. Chain Reaction also does not deserve to be a 2 point investment.
  • Just as Warlock can pick between RNG cleave (Mayhem) and CD cleave (Havoc), Frost Mage should be able to pick between RNG cleave (Fractured Frost) and CD cleave (Frost Deathborne, but with ice creature instead of lich to be more thematic, also with shorter duration and CD to be both more accessible and less oppressive). Not everybody likes RNG to do cleave damage, so Mage players should have a similar choice to Warlocks.
  • Either remove Icy Propulsion and compensate with reduced base CD of Icy Veins / other buffs or make Glacial Spike critical hits reduce CD of Icy Veins by 6-10 seconds instead of 2. Without either being done, Glacial Spike build is about dead on arrival, as its uptime of Icy Veins would be lower.
  • Revert 9.2 Frost Mage nerfs, they are no longer warranted, especially in Dragonflight.
  • Add Concentrated Coolness to the Frost tree, so that people could pick the Frozen Orb placement way they prefer.
  • Shatter should be auto-talented for Frost Mages in general tree, as it is currently possible to take Improved Shatter without picking the base in general tree.
  • Water Elemental might need a buff, otherwise it would get outshined by Lonely Winter just as it is now. Giving more talents in the tree to improve your pet, like giving him a spammable AoE ability to use in AoE situations could be a nice addition.
  • Ray of Frost needs an improvement to make it competitive with other spells. Shorter CD, possibility to use in on the move, generate Icicles and / or have cleave damage are the possible solutions. To make it also more competitive in PVP, it could block gap closers while target is affected or have increased range.
  • Both Wintertide and Snowstorm should become 2 point talents (with effect not reduced). 3 point talents are too limiting in both general and Frost trees and these 2 are arguably not powerful enough to justify current 3 point investment.
  • Make Blizzard an optional talent, so that single-target damage builds could avoid it if they want.
  • Make Cold Snap an optional talent, so that it is not mandatory to access Icy Veins.
  • Buff Ebonbolt - reduce its cast time and CD to the level that it is actually competitive with Frozen Touch, otherwise it would be outclassed by FT just as it is now. 2s cast and 30s CD could be a starting point. If needed, also buff its damage.

This list is only a part of what could be done, but that could be a start.
