As the title says - the mobs here drop vanilla leather mats when skinned, but don’t grant any skill points towards vanilla skinning.
What’s your skinning level? I don’t think Azuremyst mobs can get you all the way to 300.
My skinning level is 1 - fresh character coming out of the Draenei starting zone at level 6. Picked up skinning from the profession trainer and receive no points from any skinnable mobs.
When you hover a skinnable corpse, what color does the word skinnable appears in?
Orange, which suggests you should gain a skill point guaranteed.

Since the area that you are describing was introduced in the Burning Crusade expansion, make sure that you learn the Outland Skinning skill.
Nowadays, the area that you are, levels the appropriate gathering skill as well - Outland area → Outland skill, Northrend area → Northrend skill.
