Back before the Titans found Azeroth - Black Empire

During that quest line, you are told

“This is far in the past, right?”
“Yes. From before the Titans found Azeroth. This is when the Elemental lords made war on the Black Empire of the Old Gods”.

Found as in “discovered” or found as in “created” ?

Was Azeroth not, simply a Titan sleeping in the planet of the same name and discovered by Agrammar? This I believe was the theme in Legion/BfA ?

In any case, if Azeroth did not exist, what planet are we on? And if nothing else existed, who exactly were the Old Gods gods of?

We only think that Azeroth is a Titan World Soul because the Titans tell us Azeroth is a Titan World Soul.

I hope that puts it into some perspective.

I think it’ll make more sense if you think about Titans as being the children of planets, rather than the planet itself. The world soul appears to be something that manifests in a world after some time - and not something that exists from the get-go. It may or may not be related to the element of Spirit.

The old gods are tumours cast into material reality from the void by their masters, the void lords. The void is literal nothingness, but in the sense of WoW, it’ll probably manifest as a dimension with it’s own cosmic laws, it’s own Zereth (Zereth Nihilus?), and it’s own pantheon of shadow. We’ll find out at some point, I’m sure.

We’ve also been told different things about what Azeroth is throughout WoW’s history, and Blizzard do not care for consistency with their storytelling. It could be that Azeroth is simply yet another nascent Titan, albeit one more powerful than the rest. It could also be that she represents a 7th, hitherto undiscovered cosmic force.

It should also be added that the name Azeroth may or may not be inspired by the Lovecraftian outer god Azathoth, the “blind idiot god” who exists in the center of the universe and is the omnipotent force in the universe whose dreams make all of reality manifest.

Soon after the War of the Ancients, Sargeras had a vision: the Well of Eternity imploded once again, but this time, it dragged him down to the very core of Azeroth. He was there for only an instant, but in that moment, he saw Azeroth’s slumbering world-soul–and in that moment, the world-soul opened one eye and gazed at the Dark Titan. He was enraptured. Since then, the eye of Azeroth’s world-soul has not been far from his thoughts. He commanded the eredar who forged the scepter to crown it with that lone, wondrous orb
Funy, how the “Eye” motifs were always Old God themed tho’
Who knows what did Sargeras saw…?
Then again, it was his vision/dream only… (you know, things the Old Gods are love to play)
But Shadowlands - sorry I’m choking on bile here , but it is * sigh * canon ,sadly - somewhat confirmed Azeroth IS a world Soul i nthe Who is the Maw Walker? Quest - Tal-Galan says: Ah, yes… You have a connection to a unique world soul, as it was foretold!
So she IS a World Soul… it is just up to debate now a World Soul = a Titan or not
A Woruld Soul ould be a potential, and with the right power infuse conditioning could become a Titan… or something else.
I think it is a primodial, rare thing, with a potential to be anything under the right circumstances
This is actually not destroys the old lore, but expands it, and could work together

exactly, it was Discovered, but that dosn’t mean that the planet didn’t exist from a long while.

It was home to the elements who fought against each other, then, the void lords sent random old gods across the universe to try and find a titan soul to corrupt, since they’r plan of corrupting the titans that were already awake failed.

They landed on azeroth, they made the black empire and the Elemental lords were like:

Then they were enslaved by the old gods and the titans found out about azeroth and tryed to remove the olds gods etc…
