So i had a craving for nostalgia so i went through all the cinematics from start up until now and my god did they take a nose dive and fast …
Why would you move from the TBC cinematic that was eye wateringly beautiful, to this comic book clanky frame skipping style?
It just screams low effort
I love wow and have put many years into it from all the way back in TBC…
But…
With a dwindling player base you would think they would put in their all to try and win back players but everytime i log in, theres a new bug, WQ dont work, Some mog is bugged out graphically, some specs are outright broken or need tuning - retri/prot warrior, BOTS flood classic pvp, Renown xmog rewards are poorly designed and low quality, mythics are bugged to high heaven, Group loot in LFR for some reason, Trading post on the day of its unveiling had to go down for emergency fixingz because hamster…
it all just feels … very low effort… new additions seem to be band-aids, or desperate but failing grabs at the leaving populace.
I hope like many of you that wow comes back to its glory days, i thought DF might have been the fix that was needed… but … meh
I still hold out hope and will ride the storm to the end…
Marketing probably demonstrated that the financial return from the incredibly expensive CGI cinematics didn’t warrant the expenditure. The slight uplift in users set against the more simplified comic style productions just wasn’t worth it. The better cinematics are wonderful but in the end…the Warcraft movie didn’t result in a massive uplift in numbers so why would expensive cinematics.
There is one issue that is significant and that is the desire of those involved to celebrate their product. Sometimes you do things cus you are proud of your product. This latest expansion for me has not been sufficiently celebrated. Makes you think. Makes me sad.
What the hell are you even on about? The Burning Crusade cinematic is just random frames and Illidan at the end. Cool yes but hardly eye wateringly beautiful. The Dragonflight cinematic builds a story. It’s anything but “comic book clanky frame skipping” - are you sure you watched the actual cinematic and not the Legacies series?
What kind of cinematic you mean that is “worse than TBC”? Are you speaking of the announcement cinematics or what? I have no clue how to interpret that section of your post.
There was one CGI cinematic in TBC times and it was expansion trailer. We still have them. DF even had two of these. Hell, BFA had like 5 if you count all Saurfang stuff.
The cinematics that resemble drawings are totaly different thing, not a replacement. We didn’t have anything like this back then.
Patches also still have their announcement cinematics and these are far better looking than in old days.
The expansion cinematics were trailers and did their job very well.
The ingame cinematics are story driven and personally I find it immersive that it doesn’t break the design up massively, makes you feel like you’re still in the same world you were just walking through.
Then i am sorry but you just said a baseless statement, far more money and time go into recent ones than compared to old one’s through out the whole game.
Maybe the OP was referencing BfA. The cinematic with Sylvanas on the walls at Undercity is seriously the best made in any game. Even the cinematic for the opening of Shadowlands is a work of art. Nothing in Dragonflight has come close yet albeit ingame cinematics have always been a little cartoon like compaired to trailers to patches and the like. Nothing in Dragonflight has been jaw-dropping so far.
this makes sense,…on the other hand they can use ‘‘fans’’ that already do machinima and cinematics and that will cutoperating costs …give them some sign copies of the game and they work for free lmao
