Bastion was a pretty terrible start

Very linear map, loads of slow, uninspired RP events, and the friendly NPC’s you deal with are fairly dull. You also go from Oribos, a brightly lit floating tower, to Bastion, a brightly lit floating island, so it didn’t even feel like much had changed.

Luckily, Maldraxxus and Ardenweald were much better, and Revendreth is shaping up nicely. There was more emotion contained in the march to bring Ysera’s seed to the Night Queen than the entirety of Bastion’s questline, and the Maldraxxus opening was something special:

Me: Hey, I’m the Maw Walker, I need to-

NPC: GET IN THE ARENA SCRUUUUUUUUB GO GO GO GO GO

Me: Inarticulate screaming as I burn 30 mobs to death and become an unkillable god of death fuelled by the cheers of the crowd

Margrave: Wait, who’s this guy?

Other Margrave: Who cares? CIVIL WAR TIME

Five minutes in, and I’ve slaughtered dozens and sparked a zone-wide conflict. That’s how it’s done. No more ringing bells and meditating in water, thanks.

I loved this part and it was absolute madness with Warmode on. Just madness, and I loved it.

I thoroughly regret not having Warmode on for that. I can only imagine it.

I was shocked by that one

When I first arrived in Bastion it was a peaceful welcome.

Then first arrival in Maldraxxus is like shocking :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I kind of laughed, but good laughter. It was fun!

Bastion is really annoying as covenant since you can’t get up there except by using an fp… wish it was more convenient.

Go and make a better game then. We are waiting.

Agreed. This specific moment, the Mald introduction has been one of the high points for me in SL so far I loved it

Thanks for the spoiler, I decided to read this one cause you mentioned bastion and I’m already mid-ardenweald. Now I know whose seed it is.

Seems like one just cannot visit the forums, it feels like a minefield.

You would regret having it on way more, because you would probably get nowhere with your punching bag class. And having your warmode changed is way more painful than it was in previous expansions. Oh god, Im so triggered by just thinking about travelling in SL…everytime I have to travel to Oribos and back, I lose a part of my soul.

I liked the Bastion as well. It shows a serene, peaceful afterlife realm to those who seeks that kind of paradise. Then it evolves into a local disturbances and again into a full blown invasion attack from foreign realm. I really loved how they managed to make me feel angry when the invasion break loose. Why are they attacking and destroying this lovely afterlife place?

For Maldraxxus, I loved that intro and the whole quest line, story. Cool stuff. I have just started Ardenweld so can’t comment that one yet, except it looks amazing!

Yeah Bastion almost had me just quit. I felt my mind go numb whule playing. Maybe all the samy bright colors and clone like npcs, had the same effect on me, as staring at a white wall for too long.

Also the quests where you had to drag animals around were just annoying. One kept disappearing, and I had to go back to get it. The other ran almost on top of me the entire time…

The owl stewards were fantastic though. :hugs:

Personal pref. I love basion and havnt left yet despite bwing lvl 55. Its so pretty. Oribos is gray and brown, basionnis gold and white. Theres a big difference

Yeah, Bastion was very generic and boring. About halfway through I actively stopped caring about the storyline and found the side quests more memorable. I’ve only gotten about halfway through Maldraxxus and this is much more like it! Though I suppose SL needed a softer first (proper) area to build up drama. I just wish it had been more interesting.

I dusted off my Blizzard net forum account to login and post exactly the same thing as op. The zone with the new graphics engine looks amazing.

But the quests are boring. Copied Greek mythology (as always in WoW), mixed in with Catholicism? Or something, I’m not quite sure.

You’re in the afterlife in this beautiful paradise, with the huge paradox that you have to still, to fit in the WoW mechanics, kill things.

The zone feels extremely grindy (quest grinding) for a starting zone, however it does make you want to get out of there ASAP and is making me dread doing it with my alts.

(Spoiler) one of the four virtues goes bad, who could be corrupting her?!! Who cares!!

As I said the zone is very beautiful but doesn’t feel like it fits into the WoW universe at all, it feels like something you’d find in Aion or a Japanese MMO, stuck inside WoW.

Bastion is the best part of SL, IDK what are you people hallucinating, but you’re clearly out of your minds. Coo-coo.

Firstly, this thread wasn’t just criticism. Bastion wasn’t great. Everything else was.

Secondly, that’s a stupid argument. My friend once programmed a very simple game where you had to press space to make an avatar jump over a fence as he ran along. It was just a timing game. It was just a test-run and it wasn’t very good.

But according to your logic, because I don’t possess the technical knowledge to ‘make a better game’ I cannot criticise his work. That, if he says it’s the best game in the world, I cannot oppose that statement, because I don’t know how to code.

You don’t need to be able to create something greater to recognise when something is flawed. Not that, in this case, it necessarily is. A number of people have said they liked Bastion. But most people seem to prefer the storytelling and action of the other realms more.

You’re missing the point. Bastion is the way it is for contrast. It’s supposed to be drastically different to the next zone. If every covenant’s main focus was about obliterating opponents then players would complain that they all feel the same.

If you don’t like how Kyrian quests are then fine, but their state does serve a function.
