Some of the best music we’ve ever had with the Arathi Highlands Warfront soundtrack if you’re Alliance, or the Dazar’alor theme if you’re Horde.
Some of the prettiest and more immersive zones we’ve ever had with Zuldazar and Stormsong Valley.
A gripping story in many regards, including famous lore characters like Jaina, N’Zoth, Queen Azshara, and Saurfang. Sure it dragged on with Sylvanas but that wasn’t all of it.
Lots of extra little pieces of content to look forward to, such as Heritage Armour and Allied Races.
Lots of interesting lore to discuss with all the whispers of N’Zoth and stuff.
Excellent transmog at least with the PvP Season 1 set.
I don’t do much endgame but from what I hear, raids and dungeons were mostly fine.
A ton of cinematics dropping throughout the expansion.
Even if Island Expeditions and Warfronts ended up being kind of “meh”, they were still proper Warcraft content. The setting was right, although the execution wasn’t so good.
What does the Shadowlands have? The story is crap, zones are crap, the music is mostly crap, there are hardly any famous lore characters involved aside from being used as props (Kael’thas, Lady Vashj, all the various named souls, etc.), Torghast and the Maw are both crap, transmogs are mostly crap.
No 8.2 was better than SL, the rest of BFA was hot garbage and absolute trash, the most unenjoyable leveling experience ever (hi guys, your going to get weaker the more levels you get, have fun), absolute drab content. BFA stunk and they needed a hail Mary patch to make it palatable. Mechagon was brilliant.
Maybe you I never put that much store into a legendary so it never stressed me out, same with conduits, and covenants.
I chose the covenant I wanted, I get conduits passively and pick the ones that look like they might be fun and got a legendary when I got it. I seem to be the happier person for taking the laissez faire approach really.
I did the same in BFA with the neck and corruption too and I still find the fun in WoW so
Same here to be honest, but i was a lazy peon this season.
I hope i will play more in s2 and optimize my stats
Well i didnt do neck grind too, just gained it passively by playing, something which i prefer to torghast but i dont let it bother me too much…
If i want the power i will run it more in s2
N’Zoth was absolutely butchered and rushed beyond believe in BFA. Same goes for Azshara. Both deserved in the very least half an xpac or an entire one.
Thats an extra thingy. Wouldnt count that as an “bfa was great”. Didnt affect BFA gameplay.
Ye that was about the only thing worth discussing regarding N’Zoth. And that was what his whispers meant
Matter of taste tbh.
Raids and dungeons are fine.
In which case you cant compare yet then given Shadowlands is still in its base patch and first patch on wednsday.
“wasnt so good”? It was absolute trash.
Alexandros is a more than famous lore character. Jaina is present (something you praised in BFA), Thrall, Baine, Bolvar, Anduin, Sylvanas, Draka, Vashj and Kael obviously, Uther (also a very major lore character), Garrosh in 9.1, Arthas is bound to appear as well.
Agree.
Matter of taste.
You believing that if they suddenly just release 10.0 would change anything is kinda cute.
BFA was trash. By far the worst xpac. Not even Cataclysm was that horrendous.
Well, reading the blue post today I get the feeling soul ash might be easier to come by in 9.1, it looks like you can run the same layer twice and get soul ash (might have read that wrong though) and the amounts are increasing. It also says that you have the options to refuse your vault items and choose anima, soul ash or another currency as a vault reward instead so upgrading might not be as harsh as it has been.
I also think they are putting in some kind of reward system for it but its tied to power within Torghast.
I don’t actually mind Torghast, but again that’s partly because I don’t really care so if I fail it because I get bad powers I can shrug it off and because it’s content I can do mindlessly when I’m in that kind of mood.
I am glad they are putting a skip in for alts though so they don’t have to do it to save the walking steak anymore
If we are going by the pattern:
“The former expansion was better than the current one” than I’ll probably play SL when the next expansion is out.
By that time it should be better than the new one.
Just run through some BFA zones and you can see how much more effort they put into them and the music. It feels like a living world while SL zones and music are all bland. There’s nothing to explore in SL, it feels like once you’ve seen one small part of a zone you’ve seen the whole zone. The 9.1 zone Korthia is probably the worst I’ve ever seen, with recycled assets from Ardenweald and Oribos.
SL zones art and themes are good. Vertical design, annoying mob density, weird pathing, artificially hard content (like 1 shot in maw) is the problem. Not the art
But in SPACE there is no SOUND
so maybe in DEATH REALMs like shadowlands there is no colors and cool music it’s all just meeh because it’s dead and it’s trying to pretend like it’s real WORLD
When i’m in bastion it looks OK but i feel like im walking through simulation
Yet also one if not the most despised storyline in the game, requiring you to read a novel to even understand the context, multiple sources to get the motivations and 18months of timegating to extremely slowly reach the point of that entire mess.
The story is really not what I would praise BFA for, despite how I liked some of the zones.
So does SL with it’s exploration of death, the various forces of the Warcraft universe, return of old characters & explanation of some factions like the dreadlords.
Which actually explains a lot about that thread. A lot of the issues BFA faced never mattered to you in the first place
The war campaign cinematics was definitely a strong point for Blizz, no matter how they actually dealed with the story itself
I’ll take Torghast over WF & IE tbh
The same core systems, with a lot of issues fixed and new ones introduced.
Tbh I can already imagine you making the same thread about 9.3 being better than 10.0, 'cuz that’s a purely subjective argument you most likely wrote after being frustrated by the game …
In many aspects SL is better than BFA (systems, RNG, grind, power bloat etc). If you compare 8.0 to 9.0 then there’s not a lot of competition, systems were a mess back then & you didn’t had much more to do in the game.
If anything SL didn’t receive nearly as much negative criticism than BFA received at this point in time and that’s taking the content draught into account.
-Class design and gameplay were the worst wow ever had. Of course bfa class and gameplay is better than tbc or wrath, but those are old expansions, so It’s quite easy to forgive those expansions.
-Layers of systems upon layers of systems like a recursive function. They sought to make gearing and systems easier than what we had from wrath to Wod, yet, they managed to build really complex systems.
-Raids, well…
Only BoD stands out. Uldir was a trash opening tier, EP was meh (Za’qul, not cool, Azshara having 739392738 mechanics to deal with) and Nyalotha being the worst closing tier since cata. And I dare to say this : I’d rather progress once more DS than Nyalotha.
-Talking aboot EP and nya… Those themes deserved expansions instead of being rushed this way.
-And because of that amount of themes, I don’t know what was bfa aboot : Faction conflict? Old god? Azshara? I don’t know.
-islands and warfront being awful mandatory pièces of content. I’d rather run throghast than islands.
Sl core system?they improved?we got a new expansion with only lowered stats,we can still 1 shot people, now we have few classes that can 1 shot that’s really a improvement,at least in bfa anyone could 1 shot,we got target capped who is not capped is meta the rest can gtfo,we got covenant specific instances where if ur not meta or the covenant urs kinda suck, legendarys are boring giving little to no change in gameplay making the game boring ( a game should be entertaining),the map designs to fly or port everywhere makes the whole expansion feel small, also while it’s challenging to have affixes but since legion we have the same ones just different dungeons,sl took the idea from the pillars from bfa, nothing original just different spell, after ksm most people stopped people now, while in bfa you could always push, even the average Andy’s could push keys, now it’s a disaster ,gearing in sl is also garbage, basically waiting 1 week to see if you get any upgrades from vault,in bfa you could got that from almost any content you done, the idea behind work hard for your gear and makes it matter went into the drains,it only made people feel bad for not playing from the start and they get so behind that by the time they get there the patch is over and most people leave waiting for maybe the next one or completely leave
