Battleground faction imbalance

Hello,

I will get straight to it, faction balance is going to be a big problem in TBC when it comes to battlegrounds.

The obvious response is “LOL you made horde noob kid big mistake loser” which is the likely response of the community, but it’s not a solution.
The majority of players did not make Horde because “bis racials lol” - Alliance reigned supreme when it came to Classic PvE and BGs with the gnome racials and holy paladins.

That second response is the classic “you picked it deal with it”, while valid, is not healthy. The majority of players did not know the faction imbalance would happen, and they had no option to change their faction. Returning players also cannot do anything about having their only characters as Horde.

The game needs a solution to what is going to be insane queue timers for BGs. If it be mercenary mode or another solution, but it shouldn’t stay like this.

As a note, I play Alliance. The reason for this post is I don’t want players to quit the game due to queue times. We saw how much the Classic population fell off, and while this is not the sole reason, it is one of the many reasons population fell. There is a simple solution to this problem that is currently operational on live. It should be put into TBC. Don’t give players a reason to quit or logout. We all want a healthy, balanced and active game.

hmm, you’ve described Horde’s pain too well to be playing Alliance.

P.S. Don’t do that. Let them suffer.

I’d like to farm out in the open as alliance w/o encountering five hordes to every ally. Can we do something about that as well?

Faction imbalances has its pros and its cons. I don’t think you’ll see many complaints from the horde over the control they’ll have on pretty much every primal-spot in outland. They can even do that while in queue for a BG. If we queue to a BG we get insta queue, but we can basically never farm primals w/o being overrun and killed any second

It’s not about that. Make your own thread for that. We’re talking about people waiting in 40min + queues. Blizzard introduced Merc mode on live because they know it’s not sustainable for players to sit in 40min queues to engage in content. I share your pain, the open world since P2 has been a nightmare, but we’re not talking about “omg im ally F the horde scum!!!”.

We are talking about keeping the game healthy, and there is a simple solution to achieve that, and it should be introduced. Players quitting the game is in the interest of no one.

This is the only thing that needs to be adressed . Been playing horde all my life , we were always zugzug in BG’s , couldn’t care less about winrates , if i lose it’s because i failed to gitgud
What i care about tho , is simple . When i log to the game and say “now i will burnout in BG’s” , i should do exactly that . Not face abysmal long queues . Same way when i say today is raiding day or today is grinding proffesions/rep day
The game is literaly begging for a list of radical changes to BG’s , no matter how much it will anger the purists . Otherwise it will become a dead content .
There should absolutely no controversies about that .

Agreed, and during classic it was understandable as it was not possible to predict how many people would queue actively in end-game, once you hit level 60 and build your character and got it geared it was difficult to switch leaving behind all that time invested. But now we have a new expansion where you start over and you can shill out $40 for a level boost with gear and mount, if you want to reduce the queue times for yourself you have the full ability to make a new char for the other faction.

I’d rather they just completely disabled racials rather than Merc mode more PvP players roll horde for vastly better PvP racials its min/max remove the incentive to roll horde for PvP and the queues will balance themselves it’s not that complicated

You want fix something whats not broken, for short ques you play ally, for wpvp advantage you play horde.

Mercenary mode just made the faction imbalance worse on retail.

If you can play the overcrowded faction with 0 downsides then why would would you be Alliance?

No, staying in queue for 30 mins is fair and that’s coming from someone who has mained Horde since well, forever.

This also adding Merc mode will increase ally queue times making it even worse for them as spots get filled with horde players and they have to wait for another game finishing or more players queueing

For sure. I hope we don’t live to see merc mod added to Classic. I like a healthy game, I picked a balanced server because I like a challenge even if I’m playing Horde. I’d like to keep it that way.

It is broken, that is why they fixed it on live. Forcing people to sit in 40min queues won’t help the game. People will quit because they are bored. This is an awful take on what is a problem that is going to get worse.

Faction population is broken.
If there will be merc mode, may got it for world pvp too?

So Horde have open world PVP advantage and short queus aswell? No. Can’t have the good without the bad.

Do what I do, play both sides.

Free faction migration within a server would solve the problem. I wonder how many horde players would actually switch

Merc mode would basically kill balance even more. Everyone would just switch horde so they have advantage outside and just played for alliance in BGs as a merc.

Shorter BG queues is one of the only reasons PvP players roll Alliance. Waiting a bit is the tax you have to pay for your overpowered racials.

Sorry, but like all the other similar comments, people can not reroll. There is no option, they will simply quit, and you will have a dead game, see alliance side on Shadowlands for reference.

There is no “tax”. 99% of the player base are not children who scream “for the Horde xddddd” or “ally rule horde suck!!!”, they’re just normal people who made the same faction their friends did, no more, no less. There should not be a “punishment” or “tax”, its a game. Such a foolish perspective, honestly.

If you want to cry about racials, make your own thread. My thread isn’t alliance vs Horde, open world domination, OP racials or punishing players. It’s using common sense that players will simply not wait 40mins + to engage in content. Furthermore, I have saw countless screenshots and videos of Horde players waiting 40mins and then joining a BG just before it ends, into a loss. It is simply not sustainable. If you think this is okay, healthy and something that will attract players and keep current players playing, then…
