I’ve been having a significant issue with the Battle.net client now for some weeks. Initially this presented as the launcher sticking on “Updating - Initiallizing” or “Waiting on another update” for up to 20minutes at a time, sometimes requiring multiple client/PC restarts to move beyond this. The workaround to this (which seems to have kept everything quiet up until now) was to disable all start up processes (Discord, Razer Naga, Adobe etc) and kill all background tasks until the update had completed, at which point they could resumed.
This problem has now escalated to the point where if I attempt to launch the game the button states “Launching” after which point it turns back to “Play”, but the game does not launch. Task manager shows multiple versions of the B.net and WoW clients running, and killing them and rebooting does not work. A tentative workaround I have found (which only works 50% of the time) is to launch WoW as admin from the file explorer, however this itself cannot be relied on.
These problems resulted in me being over 90minutes late to raid last night. Despite multiple restarts, disabling Antivirus software, Internet restarts, updating Drivers, clearing the B.Net Cache, deleting from Program Files & all other “solutions” suggested on support websites I was no nearer and eventually managed to get into the game from the file explorer (I am unsure what changed as I had already tried this several times).
Post-raid I decided a fresh install of B.net would perhaps right the wrongs, however I then encountered a BLZBNTBNA00000006 error code saying B.net could not be uninstalled, and despite multiple reboots of the PC, deleting Temp Files etc as per troubleshooting guides I could not proceed further.
I have now reformatted my entire PC and installed a fresh copy of Windows. To be clear I have no programs installed other than defaults and Windows Defender. I downloaded B.net from the website and the install progress was absolutely glacial. The install box saying “Updating Battle.net update agent” took over an hour to fill the bar, and to install the client itself took 6 (yes SIX) hours despite the program only being 200mb.
I am now in a position where trying to install WoW is like drawing blood from a stone. Clicking install results in “Initializing 0% - xx.xxmb/600mb” whilst ticking upwards at 200b/s. My speedtest results suggest 110Down/25Up and all other Internet searches are completed promptly on all other devices, so in my opinion this is not an ISP issue. In addition, I am getting “Whoops something broke” and an error code after which the button to install the game returns to “Update” and the whole process starts again.
I am now at an absolute loss as to what to do. I have checked my firewall settings, tried moving B.net up in priority in Task Manager and cannot get any nearer. Short of buying a brand new PC I do not feel I can do anymore as there cannot be program conflicts on a new install of Windows surely?
Sorry for the ramble but I’d really appreciate some solutions as I’m at my wits end here.
