Battle.net update agent using 34% cpu and affecting latency

hello. the last few days I’ve noticed that my latency sometimes starts going up and when I check in task manager (after doing a speed test on my ISP etc) I can see a battle.net update agent running. I’ve only noticed this since the blizzcon timer was added to the launcher (and is now gone, but the agent is still there whenever I log in to the launcher / start the game).

I’ve noticed that whenever my latency starts creeping up ( I’m playing HC so I’m sensitive to anything that looks odd ), that the agent is using cpu and disk. This seems to be what is causing my latency issues. Just now my latency shot up to 200+ and was 300+ when I got out of the game. Task manager reported that the update agent was using 34% of cpu and using disk as well.

I’ll be happy to provide any other info to resolve this. Thanks.

The update agent pretty much runs when ever the battle.net app is running but mostly its idle. If your seeing CPU usage and latency increase it might suggest game or app updates are being downloaded in the background.

You should be able to avoid updates being downloaded while playing a game by ensuring you have enabled “Pause updates when i launch a game” in the app settings under Downloads > Game updates.

Alternatively, if you don’t need battle.net open while playing (only real reason would be for using chat outside of game) you could just close it. I have it set to close automatically upon game launch.

thanks. I should have said, I check most days for any updates and get them installed if any are ready, even if they are for e.g. retail or wrath, which I’m not playing atm.

I’ll try that pause you suggest in settings and go on to closing the launcher if needed.

Thanks very much.
