If you’re not part of the top 5% then rated PVP is just frustrating. Especially when you are at the rating bracket you are supposed to be at, fighting equally strong opponents. Someone on your team messes up, you can’t carry them, it feels hopeless and like you are not making any progress at all. What are you even working towards? This is why the number of players can barely sustain rated PVP anymore.
It is time for Blizzard to rework the reward structure. Just copy Overwatch and put the cosmetic season rewards behind a battlepass. Your battlepass only progresses with wins, and the higher rated you are the faster you progress.
Give players in all rating brackets something to work towards. Watch participation numbers go up.
I fear Blizzard will not invest at all in PVP anymore if there is no money to be made. If a few whales buying epic battle passes keeps the game mode alive it might very well be worth it.
“Welcome to my crib”, queue up with friends to find style inconsistencies inside a random player’s house! Each found flaw will lower the owner’s social credits. Once below a certain threshold the owner’s house will be relocated to the Goblin slums
A battlepass doesn’t solve any issue it just creates new ones. WoW has rewards Tied to rating that can’t be put on a battlepass. By taking the cosmetic rewards tied to rating and essentially giving them away for ‘time spent playing’ all your doing is removing people who want the prestiege of those items. You will lower the amount of people playing PvP or playing it seriously. I don’t have all the elite pvp sets, but if they start giving them away, I’ll just play something else. I like to earn my rewards, not be handed them like a participation trophy merely for showing up.
Didn’t even know that was a thing. I would still rather earn what I get. I’m not a fan off “Heeeey lil’ buddy, thanks for showing up, here’s some shiny objects to show you did infact show up!”
Pvp rewards should be for RATING and then REMOVED FOREVER. That’s the only way to keep them cool and unique. If everyone can get it, it means NOTHING.
THE COOLEST rewards should only be given to top 1-2% players maybe. So its impressive when you see it, and respect the player.
If PvP feels frustrating, maybe play pve instead? Most people play the game for fun, not because they have to.
If you fight equally strong opponents, then that’s good matchmaking isn’t it? Do you want to fight only noobs to feel better about smashing them or???
If you are not in the top 5%, then play better, because you do not deserve the rewards they give for “top 5% players” whatever that means.
Not every single thing in the game needs to be a participation trophy. I don’t want to fill a bar to get my cosmetics, that’s what renown tracks are for, and we get 5 different renowns every single patch.
Then just go and buy that, nobody is stopping you, and nobody cares.
I am in the top 5% of whatever pathetic leftovers are still queueing for rated PVP. And i’d rather share my prestige pixels with more players than see the game mode die. Which is where we’re heading right now.
What you are saying makes zero sense. Do you think people will pvp more if they give rewards to everyone or? The players that only do raid+mythic+delves or collecting or whatever and don’t pvp, will not pvp even if they give everything for free. They don’t enjoy the game mode, so they don’t care.
The people that like pvp will feel that their achievments don’t matter, being good doesn’t matter, so they will quit forever.
If winning or gaining rating doesn’t matter, everything will turn into a clown show, people will troll every game because there is nothing to lose, bots will become rampant, in every game you will have people auto-afk with W pressed, etc etc.
Every single game that went against their real hardcore fanbase to gain “imaginary” new players, only made the ones that already play it quit. Hard truth.
You only get battlepass progress for winning. And you would get very little progress when below average rating. You could still make it to the end of the battlepass before the season is over, but it would be balanced so you have to put in real effort to get enough wins.
The goal is not to give rewards away for free, but to give players in all rating brackets a feeling of constant progress. Even when they are stuck.
