Be the tank you want to see

Hey friends.

Since we constantly can see how people talk about the tank shortage and I don’t want to continue to wait in queue as a DPS for everything so Im Just gonna do what is needed and tank myself.

But Im gonna need the help of the forum hivemind.

What tank should I pick?

I don’t mind not starting with the most beginner friendly spec but I would like to not have to many keybinds.
I know tanks tend to have a bunch of abilities but maybe not every tank needs all of them every fight?

I’m not gonna go an tank +12 so it doesn’t need to be the meta tank.
And just cause I start tanking that doesn’t mean I will suddenly stop enjoying delvs so maybe there is like a tank that is really good at them?

I would love to hear all of your suggestions

Druid is the most easy tank.

I would say pala is and a lot less apm as well.

My problem with Paladin is that if you mess up anything he becomes paper and gets 1 shoot, at least my paladin.

With Guardian you just spam ironfur when you have rage. :bear:

Are blood Death Knights bad these days? It doesn’t seem so long ago they were renowned for being nearly unkillable iirc.

They are if well played, but their hp jumps a lot (up and down) and a new player to tanking may enter in panic.

And normally if your tank enters in panic you know stuff hit the fan

Yes I heard druid is supposed to be pretty easy.

Is it like miles easier then the other tanks?
I’m a bit hesitant to choose druid since they are always in shape shift so no mog

Ive played a lot of different tanks this xpac. First blood dk then paladin, warrior for a bit and then this monk. 2 of them are above 3k (monk and paladin) with blood dk right behind.

Id say of all them, id probably recommend warrior. Its easy to start and is fairly bulky.

A very dumbed down version is:

Used shield slam and thunderclap on cd for rage

Spam your shieldblock (buff extends, its your active mitigation)

Use your offensives cds on… well cooldown

Spend rage on ignore pain (def) or revenge (damage)

Use defensives for high damage intake(though you could prolly not use them for key levels below 8 ish without being trucked)

Blood dk has a lot of buttons, but is a god on its own. Dont need no healers (below 10-12 key range). And has a lot of utility to circumvent different mechanics on bosses

Paladin as stated before is paper unless you know when to use your defensives (obviously you can outgear content). And had an ungodly amount of buttons from cds, to defensives to utility

Brewmaster is actually quite tanky once you get a little bit of gear. Especially at relatively high damage intake. Because of their stagger. But i felt like it was rough in low keys cause damage intake wasnt high (i know its weird)

Hope this helps a bit!

That helped a lot.

I will keep the warrior as a safe plan b in mind and I will look up the blood DK further. I like the whole selvehealing thing.
Maybe I look up DH aswell heard they are similar to blood DK and they have that pretty cool fire breath attack

If youre going for dk, id suggest going for a san layn build. It prefers haste and vers as stats versus vers and mastery for deathbringer.

The openers can be a bit clunky and the haste vers helps being able to quickly fire off a death strike.

And its pretty cool thematically in my opinion.

Gonna hijack this and ask what power level druid is estimated to be at next season? (Guard, restro)

Blood DK if you don’t want nor have intention to push.
Blood does fine with healers of any skill-level, you can be fine even with healers that don’t know how DK works.

It doesn’t have a ton of keybinds and the APM is ok, maybe if you play San’layn you can have more APM but overall is pretty average (?).
The only thing with Blood though is that you need to know your opener, after that you’ll be fine.

Deathbringer dk is on the low side of apm, cause of not wanting haste. And yes sanlayn is faster. But its also def easier with haste (in my opinion ofc), since the openers can be bloated. Haste gives a bit of leeway

I believe guardian is estimated to be low a/b tier. The survivability is good, but for it to shine with the damage patterns they need to give up a lot of offensive power (from what ive watched/read)

Yea, San’layn is mostly about haste and stacking it to a point in which is just easier to get those globals off (maybe round 20% or something like that); it basically plays more or less like Blood DK in s3/4 SL, at least imo.

Kyrasis makes good guides about BDK and he’s pretty active on his discord iirc if @OP wants to know more about it.
Here’s the spreadsheet abou everything you need to know about Blood and the discord is there.

A big thanks to both of you you where really really helpful.
I’m still not entirely sure if I go warrior or blood but I am very confident one of them will be a good fit for me.

Especially the guide caylia dropped was incredible helpful not only for blood but for tanking in general

For some, the hardest is the easiest, while the hardest is the easiest.

Just pick a tank which will please you aestetically, and try it.

Also, if you do not have thick hide, do not pick tank, it is not worth it. I play tank out of nescessaty, and I lack patience to sit hours in the q.
