Beast Mastery Hunter

I would like to ask 3 questions please.

  1. If I am picking 2 Ferocity pets, then I get 2x leech effect? or is it just 1 time?
  2. If I am picking 1 Ferocity and 1 Cunning, Would I get both effects?
  3. Which one of the exotic pets have the most survivability skill?
    thx
  1. Not sure.
  2. The second pet doesn’t count with regards to what family it is AFAIK.
  3. Corehound

why core hound? why not devilsaur(healing) or Clefthooves(healing and armor)

Corehound ability - Obsidian Skin: The Core Hound suddenly cools and hardens the magma on its skin, reducing damage taken by 50% for 12 sec.

Clefthoof ability - Thick Hide: When falling below 40% health, the Clefthoof’s skin will thicken, granting 60% reduced incoming damage for 15 sec. This effect can only occur once every 120 sec.

The latter ability only triggers when the Clefthoof’s HP drops below 40% and it’s on a 2 min CD whereas the former ability can be used on demand and is only on a 1 min CD.

  1. Only 1 time(if you’re talking about using the talent Animal Companion).
  2. Same as above, only 1, and only from your main pet. The second pet does not contribute at all, part from dealing damage. It doesn’t even benefit from the Passives you get from the main pet’s spec(Ferocity/Tenacity/Cunning).
  3. In general, you wna go for a Clefthoof. Core Hounds work as well ofc. but the Thick Hide triggering on low health + overall better survivability with Blood of the Rhino, makes Clefthooves the better choice.

1- You only have benefits from your main pet and it is 1x leeching or endurance training passive effect but if you choose aspect of the beast talent (best), those effects incerase as well.
2- Depends which one is main pet. You get only your main pet’s passive effect. So if you call a cunning pet, you have pathfinding buff. Second pet just obeys kill command btw.
3- I’m using core hound pet in pve contents, island expeditions, torghast tower, open world bosses etc. and never had any problem of its tanking. I like their obsidian skills.

And you must know that you need every useful kind of pets as a beast mastery hunter, especially exotic and spirit pets.

  1. No
  2. No
  3. Core Hound - The leech makes them better at tanking than the Clefthoof, they are constantly healing themself and it works in AOE. Core Hound also reflects damage, increasing solo DPS.

So does Clefthooves.

Yes, I was confusing them with Direhorns for some reason. I was all messed up!

Still, 50% damage reduction for 24 seconds in 2 mins is better than 60% for 12 seconds in 2 mins. With Clefthoofs +20% healing received though I suppose they are kind of equal. If you’re using Mend Pet on cooldown then I doubt either will go down often.
