Hello there, quick question,
How do you deal with a good frost mage as a MM hunter now on SOD?
I feel they can just deadzone me pretty easily.
( I am noob btw so maybe I dont see something that I should)
Not that hard of a matchup, honestly. Their entire gameplan is to blink in your face, but that’s easy to deal with. Your pet has more than enough damage to be a severe threat between cast pushback and just raw damage and most mages forget they can poly it.
Viper sting before he blinks in your face, don’t bother trying to run out. Instead swing and try to force him out while viper burns his mana and your pet puts pressure on him.
If he’s smart and polys your pet, it simply comes down to having enough gear to survive long enough and a good enough melee weapon while you let viper sting do it’s job.
Either way, at some point he’ll have to back off unless it’s a one-sided stomp. Serpent sting into chimera shot him if he doesn’t try to cc the pet and poly you or viper sting again if he does.
Fap and frost reflector, otherwise it’s a gg , frostmages are such an anti-hunter class
thanks for your answer, but
So you think i should go melee? what do you mean by force him out?
Wow thats depressing
Use melee and don’t bother trying to kite away because it’s not going to happen unless you use fap/reflector. Instead, just swing at him and force him out of your deadzone while viper sting burns his mana.
Mages are quite squishy with next to no armor, a raptor strike is going to crit for 1/5th of his HP with a decent melee weapon, you break his ice barrier and if your pet isn’t poly’d or nova’d he won’t be able to cast anything because of pushback.
With the current damage reduction aura, the moment you force him to put distance between the two of you is the moment you’ve won because he’s likely going to have little or no mana remaining to do anything.
If you absolutely hate mages, just use flanking strike instead of sniper training. Wouldn’t recommend doing it unless you have a burning hatred for mages, but the moment they get into your deadzone you hit them for 1/3 of their HP if both flanking and raptor strike crit.
A perfect played Match:
Mage goes Icy Veins & Sheeps Pet or Blink / Freeze Both of them. Deepfreeze the Hunter which he trinkets.
He will Scatter + Trap you.
Run away and wait for this Standing Still procc.
Then he will try to 1shot you, which the Mage will Iceblock.
Depends if Deepfreeze is ready, the circle goes again.
Mage 100% needs all of his cooldowns again. He needs 2x Icy Veins. Without that its hard. Drain + Barrier will kill mage.
Gotcha I get it now, but isnt getting in melee hard too? I mean with all the slows he can put on me as frost
But yea good mage will generally poly the pet
I think its a shame that I have to spend gold on freaking faps
Keep max distance slow him after blink to trap him and if he trinkets the trap then use 1 scatter shot with lock n load proc to avoid putting your scatter in cd.
You have to protect your self from frost nova thats what it kills you
Ok so double scatter > putting distance > winning?
try to keep your scatters of cd do not use them both at the same time
gotcha, thanks for ur help man
A good mage can beat me and I think I’m a good player.
With icy veins (so two ice block) it is quite hard to get him out of deadzone. One miss on a frost trap and I’m dead. Less experienced mage players are easy picks. Don’t forget that your scatter shot also work with lock and load. One trap means you can go for 2 scatter shots.
Fair enough. They are very squishy and in group pvp are very easy targets.
I don’t want to win every 1v1
Assuming the fight starts at range you should try to get at least a multishot and an autoshot off before the mage gets in the range to blink straight into your dead zone and nova you.
I say multishot because you can’t shoot it while moving and after your multishot goes off you should instantly start strafing into the opposite direction in the hope to get a chimera off. I’d say you should use your instant aimed shot if you have the stacks for it, but that would be the exception, so I’m talking about a more general situation.
If he’s still not on you viper sting him.
If you don’t have an extra keybind for autoshot, maybe you should make a macro and include it with multishot.
Also send pet early on the mage. This should hopefully create a distance between him and your pet so your pet doesn’t get nova’ed together with you and will keep hitting the mage while he’s in your deadzone.
Save trinket for deep freeze, feign death a bigger cast and try to use your freezing trap as soon as you see him casting smth.
Try to save scatter to interrupt/create distance and use conc shot ideally after the blink.
Engi and fap are good but in theory everyone can use them including in your example the mage, that’s why I stick to class abilities.
