Related anecdote:
In Lord of the Rings Online I created a character and they had syllable examples of what kind of names were typical for the culture of that race. I picked two of the syllables listed there and put them together.
…
Beo-wulf.
The game refused and said that name is not appropriate.
I am German.
In a game where you get an achievement for bringing an orphan into a battlefield
Did you drink US-American mainstream beer?
In any case, some light beers are just bad that way.
I advise against hard liquor because it dehydrates very much, and water is life.
I can highly recommend direct pineapple juice.
Yes, very subjective, and we can even question whether bitterness is universally considered unpleasant. But you can ruin your taste with bad stuff and then need to regain your ability to detect what is healthy. I had that effect with micro algae tablets. Tasted very odd at first and by now it’s a delicacy for me.
Cola is worse than beer, I would say. It has aggressive acids and coats your teeth with a thick layer of liquid sugar. It is like soda a.k.a. sugar water, but hostile. While beer is a beverage from fermented grains.
Somehow I like light and dark (Guinness), but I cannot stand Kilkenny. And I find that Guinness tastes quite differently depending on the container. I like(d) cask and those gas ball cans.
More recently I had a phase where I really liked Störtebeker Hanse Porter, especially with a simit (sesame ring) on the side, and lately I am a big fan of their Bernstein-Weizen. It has a fruity, banana-like aroma.
Apart from the ridiculousness of the outcome in the case I mentioned, and not defending their approach, I can acknowledge that Blizzard makes a difference between stuff they control and user input. They are on some simplistic level probably worried about what players can do with such words.
Kentucky Abyssally Fried Chicken?
Bier it is then!
Eh, thanks, I guess I would have to do with that one. It bothers me as a puntheist perfectionist, but at least it wouldn’t ruin the idea.
(Because I wanted to name my Stout Alemental “Beer Giggles”.)
That’s like having one called the short version of Richard and claiming it’s short for Richard not a, well I can’t use that word here but the lead actor from Diagnosis: Murders first name.
That analogy is actually wrong. He didn’t know his brother created the character and we never learned how he came up with the name. Might as well be because he is a sick fk and actually enjoys these kind of videos.
So there was no claming involved, it’s just that it’s kinda weird that you get banned for a name when that very name is literally the name of an item that exists in the game since vanilla.
this has a lot do whit Blizz beeing a Us company, and the share stopidity in us is huge, people get offended buy everything there, and it forces Blizzard to ban words and names, or they would end up lawsuits after lawsuits, in EU this is normaly not the case at all, becuse in most countries a laywer or judge would laugh if someone tries to sue a company for using the words like white or black.

I think that may likely be because most EU countries are slightly more advanced when it comes to race relations than the USA, which is still lagging behind to quite some degree, so they find words for the primary colours to be troubling. Personally I think they should be more troubled by the word ‘Orange’ when coupled with “Fake Hair” “Should not be allowed on Twitter without a responsible adult” and “President” but hey, that is just the voice of common sense speaking…
I was talking to my friend about my Nigerian friend in the past and the Blizzard chat app censored “Nigerian” I would say that’s a lot worse than censoring “beer”. Apprently offensive to refrence someone from Nigeria? It might have been fixed since then though?

Americans are weird people. And their priorities are severely messed up.

And yet Blizzard emphasizes in various cases (like intercontinental character transfer desires) that Blizzard EU is not the same company as Blizzard US. So they could allow char names on EU realms that are problematic on US realms.
But also remember things like the Brewfest. IIRC there they even removed certain quests in the EU that are still available in the US. So there the policy seems stricter in the EU regarding promotion of drinking alcohol.

This reminds me of the very telling fact that I can name my hunter pet “USA” but not “Russia”. (Even though I would say the former is much more offensive, heh. Offensive in more ways than one. Like… non-defensive.)
stricter in the EU
Damn 1st world countries and their (Shuffels deck of cards) stupid high standers.

That’s because many EU countries have strict rules on alcohol consumption while US just get wasted all day like the savages they are. Barely even human…
Doesn’t the US have way stricter alcohol laws than most EU countries
Depends on the spesific state, but I think the answer overall is no.
I don’t remember the spesifics (maybe someone else does) but apparently one of the devs wanted less skimpy armour to be made because apparently his daughter had asked why Alexstrasza’s midriff was exposed and answering that was problematic.
All the murder, torture and genocide is fine, as well as a festival built around the idea of getting completely wasted, but characters showing a bit of skin is terrible
What exactly do you expect from people who have zero integrity both in mind and person?
Your daughter asks you why something is designed in a way, and what was his answer again? “i dont even know anymore?”
I mean.
Thats hallmark wow developer team right there.
What are you putting in the game guys, and why?
“WE HAVE NO ******* IDEA”
The correct answer btw to that kindergarten escapee father who should have never been allowed into a job, god forbid a leadership position GOD FORBID BEING A PARENT, is:
“Its because of stereotypes, marketing and psychology.”
In tl;dr: “Because boys are supposedly attracted to it”
Then we could have a discussion about whether or not thats true, and why the team had felt the need to express this idiotic idea on the frikin xyz thousand year old of guardian dragons of the planet NEAR EXCLUSIVELY.
But hey its 2020, IQ is replaced with PC pander woke points, company leaders and workers have zero idea what they are doing OR WHY they are doing it, and the entire thing is a clown show as if several circuses had been fused together.
These people somwhere down the line have lost parts of what it means to be a functioning human being.
When you cant tell your daughter why something is, you have reached a level of patheticness, ignorance, stupidity and pathological mental issues that poses an actual and imminent danger to your child.
Then to think that you are also in any form of leadership or decision making position is just ridiculous.
IDK as far as I know they’re pretty serious about that ID thing + you gotta be 21.
I haven’t had any issues buying hard alcohol since I was like 15 in Europe.
21 is fairly common for the “adult” stamp, but it varies with state, some have the more sensible 18 and some as low as 16. Adult age and alcohol doesn’t always match up though, there’s cases where they can drive at 16, even buy beer, but heaven forbid they get to vote, cause only 21 year olds are “adult” enough for that And then of course there’s states where you can buy beer -at gas stations-, how messed up is that? But I’m dangerously close to “politicial” posting now, so I’ll leave it at that.
