Beginner question: Earthen wall vs casters

Does it worth it against casters? (for example Frostmage and Shadow P.)

And im not sure about how the totem works. 33k each attack. Doesnt sound too much against a 2 million mortal strike. Or is it scales?

Ty

I honestly haven’t checked that, but I think it does from direct attacks only, not from dots.

It should scale according to the user’s versatility unless the tooltip autoupdates in real time according to it. For example, if you have 10% versatility then the totem should absorb 36.3k from each attack.

Yes, the value is small for M+. It’s intended to be used when lots of people gather in one place (like in raids when people gather at one place to absorb a large hit) or in PvP where you get hit like 5+ times per second. I don’t know how useful it is for tanks in raids. If it absorbs more than 500k damage per usage, it’s worth it.

The totem takes a small instance from ANY damage you would’ve taken and redirects it onto itself. (As long as you remain in its radius) The use of Earthen Wall is to reduce small but frequent dmg (like Bleeds, magic DoT’s and pulsing AoE). It’s bad against “big hitters” a.k.a. damage which reduces your HP from 100 to 60% and more in one instance. The HP of the totem is always equal to your own HP. It’s very good in PvP since many damage sources there fit the totem’s purpose. You can also “stack” it with totemic projection. However people need to notice and stand in its radius. Unfortunately the totem has really bad visuals.

It depends on the caster.

If its a Demo Warlock with 10000 mini-daemons casting small (but frequent) mini-fireballs at you… Definitely worth it.

If its a Destro Warlock that will hurl at you casts that chunk 50% of your life per hit every 2 seconds … then not so much.

You should use it depending on who you are fighting.

In BGs though its really worth it.
