Hello to all my fellow players.
I am torn between two tanks. Vengeance and Blood. Right now I am leveling Vengeance and Blood simultaneously when time allows it. I enjoy the lore and aesthetics of both classes and I try to avoid FOTM if possible. If the class is utter dogs**t, I happen to like it, I’ll play it
I have a few questions regarding these two tanking specs and Icy Veins can, at times be a bit overwhelming. Note: I am as casual as it gets and my reflexes aren’t what they used to be due to brain injury few years back. So this is for leveling, dungeons and maybe M+. Also, sorry for idiotic questions, sometimes I need something explained in layman terms.
Who has higher uptime on defensives?
Who has better self healing / tankiness?
Who has bigger HP spikes?
Who is more likely to get its cheeks clapped / instagibbed when a defensive is down?
Who has more engaging / faster playstyle?
I would appreciate some feedback as I don’t have much spare time on my hands to play so I can focus on only one tank.
DK has way superior self healing but that’s about it. DH is way tankier when you have meta up. All you have to do is properly manage spikes when your meta/fel dev is on cd. All 6 tanks currently are extremely close except for Guardian who has Incarnation and that’s why it pulls ahead slightly.
Thank you for the feedback.
I watched some videos and prefer the DK playstyle, it’s just that feeling of going from 100% to 20% and back to 100% freaks me out. Makes me feel like if I misclick or pop a poorly timed DS I’m gonna kiss the floor
It’s not that bad for DK if you are Venthyr and get another +10% damage reduction while you are at low health on top of Will of Necropolis talent. On DH though after you have proc’d your cheat death talent it is very, very likely you can get one shot with improper gameplay and make your healer and group very mad.
My suggestion is go with venge for starters, both dk and venge are similar to hp spikes, the difference in skillset between them is a bit higher, since DK depends on getting ur hp low so you can death strike it back, and if you say your reflexes aren’t as high as you claim , then venge is the way to go. DK seems easier but in reality it isn’t, you really need to know the class to get that gut feeling on when and how to play it, while venge is a lot more forgiving and has a ton of utility which can make it easier for you at start as well as make you more useful in general, with sigils and such
Looks like DK is either godlike or dogs**t from the looks of it, there’s no inbetween. I do enjoy a faster playstyle which DH brings, but it seems more forgiving as in less defensive cd’s to juggle. Will try to level up both if I can and probs end up maining one which suits me better.
They’re both viable for the vast majority of content. To answer your questions:
BDK, no cooldowns on your main defensives (Boneshield, Death Strike), it’s all about managing your resources economy. Veng can get to 100% uptime when you have enough haste but Demon Spikes isn’t enough on big pulls. It’s a kiting tank (and it kites really well).
It depends on what you mean by that question. If you mean face tanking then BDK, Veng is tankier in short time windows however (Meta is really, really strong) and it can kite. The best way to answer your question would be to say that they’re somewhat even on that front. They just tank differently.
Blood has the highest health spikes of all tanks.
DH, without defensive you gotta get out real fast.
DH, high mobility and bursty damages = flashy tank
To answer more generally, I’d say they’re both really interesting tanks. I do tend toward VDH if you intend to run MM+ only. The mobility, the snap aggro and the utility that sigils provide make for a very complete kit that feels almost designed to run dungeons. You can’t go wrong with either though.
Having no cooldowns helps a lot on main defensives, though managing resources on a dk can sometimes be a bit too much. Maybe just not my cup of tea.
You got it right, face tanking. I wasn’t so sure because I heard even though bdks have plate, they don’t have much armor and people ask for a hp buff and veng has crapload through passive.
Despite liking bdks a lot, this is the biggest turnoff for me. I am not experienced in tanking, like, at all and this would give me heart attacks.
At least you CAN get out fast, reliably
Main selling point perhaps for playing veng. Sometimes it feels like dk spells are outdated.
Mostly dungeons yeah, never was keen on raiding so I’'ll stick to dh.
I would say they are pretty similair in alot of the things you ask about.
Both have pretty good mitigation tools to use on a short cd nothing much differs here.
Blood DK do have more self healing and is tankier aswell when used well.
3/4. Both can take spikes at times but due to their high health they arent that likely to get gibbed but if anyone of them is less likely its DK since it also have a dmg reduction for all damage below 30% health which helps alot.
Well DH is faster and more rotation oriented, while DK is more plan ahead and react after the fact you pop defsives for big hits than you Death Strike to heal yourself up.
Final verdict, if you like speed and mobility and play a tank that plays almost like a damage dealer Demon Hunter really fits the bill well. If you like to play a tank with amazing tools to keep themself alive even when healers forgets about them at times DK is the class for you no other tank has the same control over their health as DK has downside they are extremly slow which I have problems with right now after playing so much DH over the last two months.
