Being forced to dual wield as a frost dk

I don’t get it. Blizzard answered the prayers of many a frost death knight and allowed us to wield 2h weapons again. But in shadowlands there seems to be a lack of them.

Ive tried everything (apart from pvp) to get a decent 2h weapon I’ve run dungeons, changed my loot spec, checked the ah looked at crafting even done my daily callings (disguised emissaries) it ried for sorrowbane and that’s impossible thanks to all the campers, even tried my hand at raiding and no 2h weapons drop… nothing at all.

And to add insult to injury I finally get a mission table quest that rewards a weapon… And its a one handed axe :pensive:. Today I finally get a wq that rewards a weapon… Another 1 hander. Come on blizz this is rediculous I’ve been forced to dual wield and although not the end of the world its unfair that I’ve been forced to do it because you dont give an alternative.

Fix it blizz, please. I know I’m not the only spec/class struggling with this.

There is nothing to “fix”. Because Frost can use both 1h & 2h weapons, the loot pool will contain both.

Either use what sims best if you care about your performance, or if you don’t then just equip the best 2h weapon you have. Very simple.

That’s your problem. In shadowlands, pvp is the route to targeted gear pieces with no rng drops. Just spam random BGs until you get enough Honor to buy a 2hander and upgrade it to 184, which is the current unranked gear cap. Winning or being useful or knowing what you are doing is optional, you get honor either way. Yes, it’s not ideal, but that’s the only thing we got for targeted gear. Didn’t have anything past couple expacs so there’s that.

It’s not that simple for Frost. Two handed and dual wield Frost have completely different talent builds and completely different playstyles. It’s kinda two sub-specializations really and you can simply enjoy playing one but not the other, regardless of parses and performance. And it really isn’t fun being 180+ geared in other slots but running around with a lv100 crafted weapon, again regardless of caring about performance or not.

Well… how about you PVP…? It’s super easy to farm honor up to grab a 2h and upgrade it.
You have the solution to your problem, you acknowledged the solutions existence, and you’re simply refusing to do it.

You can try for this, there are steps on how to attain it in the comments.

Put your loot spec as Unholy if you want to remove 1h weapons from dungeon loot tables.

They can’t loot 1 handers.

Already tried that

you know u could swap ur loot specc to unholy and u’d nnever get a Dual Wield weaponn again? :open_mouth:

Why don’t you just change loot spec to unholy so you will always roll 2h weapon and then change it back to Frost after you’ll get one? It’s braindead easy “fix” for your “big” problem. The only thing you should be forced to is to think.

If you had unholy as looting spec and you looted 1h weapon then you never had unholy as looting spec in the first place.

There’s nothing that “stops” you from using a talent build just because you have a 2h on instead of a 1h, and vice-versa.

Sure, is the BoS build traditionally used with DW and Obliteration build with 2h? Yes. Does that mean you cannot use Breath of Sindragosa with a 2h weapon on? No.

Again, if someone cares about performance they’re using whatever sims the best anyway, and will likely find themselves swapping between the 2 “core builds” as they upgrade their weapon - but if they don’t care about performance, it doesn’t matter if their talents are unoptimised by choosing to use a lower iLevel 2h weapon than they have available in DW.

There’s no Blizzard-created issue here, so there’s nothing to fix. Just a player-mindset issue.

I feel your pain. I only ever get 1h weapon drops and I use an obliterate set-up. I want more 2h drops, damn it. I’m also kind of sick of every 2h sword just looking like the generic one you get in Maldraxxus. It’s so darn lazy, lol.

Every time I checked, PvP was neither balanced nor fun. So maybe he wants to get a weapon by doing the content he likes?
Also, PvP isn’t a solution. It’s bypassing the main issue, which is the lack of choice. Just allowing Frost DKs, BM Monks, and SV hunters to mog a pair of one-handers over a two-hander (and the other way around) would be nice, but nah.

You have a vendor with good, competitive gear.
If you’re choosing not to use that vendor then that’s on you. you literally can not get it better than a vendor.

If having a 2h is important to him then doing a few PVP BG’s would be worth it.

And they could do the same for PvE by bringing back Justice/Valor points.
THAT would be a real solution.

That would be another solution.
OP is not saying there isn’t a different solution, OP is saying there is no solution and they’re forced. Some key words there.

Feel free to cross your arms and refuse to eat your food, it’s you that will go to bed hungry.

Yo do a bit of pvp, easy ilvl 184 weapon.

Not great but better than nothing

To fix what ? you can get 184 ilvl 2H wep trought Honor very easy that is solid wep, then go to m+,raid or idk whatever you play

I don’t think most people understand the problem here. As a caster, you cast spells. The way you play the game does not get changed if you receive a 2h or 1h + off-hand. This part changes for a frost dk. 2h relies more on obliterate damage, dw relies more on other frost damage (and atm, dw outdpses 2h even as an obliterate build).

It’s a quality of life matter. I’ve ran 5 mythic+ dungeons this week, I got loot once. This once I received a 2h with BiS stats and the highest ilvl you can currently get in a m+, 203. My current weapons are a 200 1h with worst-in-slot stats and a 184 1h with decent stats. It had a dps loss of 150 for single-target and 75 for AoE.

There are two flaws in this.
If I prefer to play dw, not only did this weapon become a downgrade (despite having better stats and ilvl than my current weapons), that I would not enjoy playing with, it also dropped “instead” of the 1h weapon with BiS stats which would have been an awesome upgrade for my playstyle.

TLDR: Not being able to choose between having 1h or 2h drop (you can indirectly choose to have unholy loot, but then you will miss out on frost legendaries), causes the following:

  1. Hinders min-maxing
  2. Might force you into playing a style OR content (such as pvp) you do not like
  3. Takes up a very dear slot in the loot table for no reason. Just try to understand the disappointment when you do your personal best to gear up in the content that you enjoy, and a weapon type you will not be using drops instead of the weapon type, on the same loot table, that addresses your playstyle, could have dropped instead.

I do not think that things such as “go play pvp” or “RAIDING allows you to select weapon type” is a fix. This only shows that Blizzard acknowledges the problem, but do not fix it in other content than the two above.

Some easy fixes for this would be:

  • Create a justice point system that awards the same, selectable, ilvl from the content you are doing (worst fix imo).
  • Create a one-time converter. If you have a 1h that dropped somewhere with mastery and crit, you can convert it into a 2h with the same ilvl that has mastery and crit and vice versa if you want 1h - just convert a dropped 2h into a 1h.
  • Create separate loot specs for frost. One only gives you 1h, the other only gives you 2h.
