I have tried warrior for the first time, already half the way. The class is crazy fun… you feel the hits, feel the power every time you level up, talents make so much sense and stuff.
However, playing warrior is literally forced to play tank. If you play dps, nobody inviting you because tanks are usually warrior or paladin, they don’t want to share loot.
Tanking is okay but sadly it requires so much effort. Knowing the whole dungeon, how to pull, how to engage, boss mechanics, keeping aggro. It’s so much effort compared to dps. I didn’t know Dexter in stockades fears and i charged in, we ended up pulling the whole lobby… we ran but priest couldn’t make it. This made me so sad and i logged out after few more minutes because now I rethink about playing warrior.
This class itself is amazing imo, maybe the only class that hook me in this hc journey. But being forced to play tank only is a problem. There is end game content too, in end game dungeons i don’t think people will be taking warrior as dps too. And tanking those are huge responsibility.
Should i just give up playing warrior? I could switch to ret, but damn that class is just auto attacks… what should i do, i wish i could play this char as dps only…
Hey man. Sad to hear someone had to go back to start. However…
Having fun, is what HC is about, if you enjoy warrior, you do you! If i die, its on me! if i join a group and i am forced to tank (i have a warrior as well, but main pala) then i tell them, that i am not comfortable tanking and that they should take extra care, if they dont, and i miss something that i am usually not aware off (due to me not maining as tank), id say its on them. (might get some heat for this)… otherwise, take it slow, let people mention mechanichs as you go, and maybe be cautious, aske before a boss fight, if anything is outside of what you might know…
But, as i said, HC is about having fun imo. So if you enjoy warrior, you do that, as you please, and stick to it!
Well, yeah. A tank is the frontline, if things go wrong they’re going to be the first to die. Why would they risk their life if they’re not going to get priority on their loot?
Furthermore, theres ZERO reason to play DPS warrior in dungeons. None. Want to hit things with a big 2hander? Do it. You can tank whilst DPSing. All you have to do is make sure the mobs are hitting you and not your healer.
You have two options.
Option 1. Play a rogue.
Option 2. Form and create your own groups, refuse to tank and be a wasted group spot.
Make your own group or try another class. There is 1000 dps per tank, so the likelihood you’re getting in as dps on a potential tanking class is very very low.
This is nothing nobody on these forums can do anything about, so you won’t resolve your issue here.
What Rune said, make your own groups. Lots of players rely on tanks to know what to do as you say so if you don’t want to do that forming the group yourself is the only option.
I’d bring you as DPS. Warrior is strong and can just go ham. Doesn’t matter if you get aggro from a mob or two. And honestly I’d rather have a warrior “dps-tank” a mob or two than a mage or a healer. Having two taunt classes is also very safe for the rest of the group.
People who aren’t playing like the bis guide is telling, are like freaks in wow.
If you are a freak you find lesser friends, but you can be what you are.
And that is the real fun part of wow, to find yourself.
depends on the level. early dps warr is not strong but it has a huge powerspike at 36 as 2h arms with sweeping strike + whirlewind combo. since sweeping strike has only a 30sek cd u can use it almost every pack. u will pull aggro with it tho so its better if u just tank.
nonetheless if u are uncomfortable to tank the only way is to build ur own group. most tanks are warrs and it could take some time to find one who wants to share loot like that. i tank dungeons myself as warr and i never invite dps warriors.
welcome to hybridcraft druid/pally/shaman? will be forced to heal or tank if they can because it’s a sought after role, warrior can fill the tank slot so they will be asked
don’t worry too much about the priest, I mean its sad and its a chunk of time investment lost but at least it happened towards the lower end of 60 levels, maybe take it as a lesson learned ! a mistake not to repeat?
honestly if you are having fun with the class and don’t mind the tanking role youtube is your friend, type in search name of the dungeon followed by “wow hardcore” watch the run on 1.5/2x speed if you have to, should give you a good idea of what to expect.
(good guards will even show you safe spots to reset)
some bosses can mind control make sure you know which have a plan that for which doesn’t involve one of your party dying
if you retadin you wont be doing as good damage as warrior and WILL still be asked to tank or heal and be in the same situation, you want to dps and not be asked to fill another role ? play hunter, mage, warlock or if melee is your thing rogue
I don’t agree with ‘forced to tank’, you make your own choice there.
If you look at Deathlog Instance Statistics then warrior deaths are at the top of the list and double the next nearest number of deaths (paladin). I would assume these are mainly tanks.
Ive rolled warrior too and I see a challenge in tanking. Maybe you should too. I have a lot of exp on the game so even when I never mainee a tank or warrior, i feel pretty solid in what im doing.
You said you ninja pulled in stockades… what I do when I dont feel comfortable charging in, just range pull them. Itll be a bit harder getting aggro as youre rage starved but you should do fine.
Another good tip is try not blow your rage spamming sunders or something else. Only use rage when youre actually starting to lose aggro. Marking could also work as people are lazy and just attack whatever assuming youre the best tank in the world.
I am 33 now and ive tanked DM, stockades, BFD, RFK and Gnomer.
