A month to go before the Skyguard will be leaving to Northrend for the Return of the Damned Part 3. In the meantime the Skyguard are taking their training seriously with ‘fly-boyz’ training programme involving illusions, robots and a lot of yelling!

A midnight story that is not canon and makes no sense

Long, long ago in Quel’thalas, the people of the high home were terrified by accounts of a dreadful epidemic, where, it was said, if you didn’t wash your lettuce then you will invite plant spirits within your home. Those unfortunate enough to allow these spirits within their home would find they were never able to get rid of them and soon enough, these people would become victims where they were never seen again. So it was whispered that you should always wash your lettuce, less you wish for the sprites to wash your skin raw and eat you for dinner. Now everybody in Quel’thalas ensured to wash their lettuce, and no one durst overlook the hygienic state of their greens.

Now, unrelated to this morbid tale of Fabled sprites, there lived a man named De’vontae and his unlikeliest of companions Mal’thadian, who made their livelihoods as Dragonhwak riders.

https://i.imgur.com/jIHoffc.png

Some time before the twelfth bell of the evening, these two brave fliers could be found leaning against the walls of the Walk of Elders throwing coasters at drunkards on the floor.

“I’m bored!” exclaimed Mal’thadian, flinging a coaster featuring Dame Jewels n’ Anders the scandalous female pirate impersonator, quite hard at the head of the drunk.

De’vontae stooped to pick up his bottle, raising a brow before answering:

“Oh? I’m quite fed up with the city myself, I won’t lie. It’s deader than a Silvermoon Phoenix in here. What say we head out of here and go for a walk?”

“Really? I’d like that a lot, I’ve never been for a walk before.”

“What never?”

“No, I always thought it was something you got invited to do and no one really invited me.”

And so it was the two began their walk outside of the gates of Silvermoon and into the autumn vibrant land of Eversong Woods. Merrily they enjoyed each others company in silence, remarking on the strange way the sky turned as they hit Dawning Lane and how Mal’thadian should take care crossing the dead scar for his colour scheme of his armour would make him quite hard to pick out from the fallen.

https://i.imgur.com/2cClr8I.jpg

It was very dark at night, and there was neither moon nor star to light the way as they crossed the bridge to Sunstrider island. To make the darkness worse Mal’thadian had made the decision to wear his bear hat that night and it did not do well in spite of the second pair of glassy eyes, in giving him vision. They knew they’d have to pick up lanterns on the way at some point.

Cresting the hillock they came to the Shrine of Dath’remar, a popular tourist attraction, that usually had queues of people who didn’t know anything about the history to the monument, but just wanted the Instacam likes. After a moment of quiet respect, Mal’thadian’s decision for eating the offered bean soup by his Lieutenant came back to haunt him as just as they were getting their S.E.L.F.I.E. picture taken, a quiet parf left his armour causing De’vontae to crack.

https://i.imgur.com/HhaZDzx.png

Thrown out of the shrine, the two continued their walk with a slight snicker every few steps until they came across the grand bridge to Fairbreeze Village, which, would have been unremarkable if it wasn’t for what happened shortly after this heart warming photograph.

https://i.imgur.com/rpzfGKL.png

Out of nowhere, or rather, from behind them a giant Alpha leapt from the bridge and onto De’vontae squashing him face first to the ground. Mal’thadian bent double in laughter only to be on the receiving end of a topé attack by a goat to the buttocks. Joining De’vontae, bear snout and nose to the ground, both elves turn in grumbled horror and then surprise. For it was their friend Ranthos!

https://i.imgur.com/DPCsKqU.png

“Hey you two pumperknickles, what’s say we get out of here and go to a happening party down at the haven?”

“W- Ranthos! You praerie dog you! You’ve indented Mal’thadian’s chaps with a prong mark from your ram!”

“No, don’t worry De’vontae, I had them already.”

“Oh…”

“…What? I like the air on my cheeks.”

“But a party Ranthos? We’ve no hat!”

Ranthos grins and gets off his goat only to wave his magic hands in the air and cause it to disperse in an ethereal cloud of smoke. Where it once stood, now lays three party hats!

With hats on heads, the trio made it to the party fashionably late and rocked it with their socks off and showed all the latest moves on the dance floor.

https://i.imgur.com/9LHwv4n.jpg

They were such a hit the local ladies and gentry soon started to swarm them for information on their fashion knowledge and how to obtain a hat like their own. Luckily for them De’vontae was an expert in escaping crowds and grabbed the two behind some uncanny resembling melons and army crawled out towards their closest safe haven. Lieutenant I’len’s home!

A looming building in the outskirts of Fairbreeze that by all accounts seemed quite forlorn which suited their LT quite nicely, because he himself was a bit of a forlorn looking man.

“He’s bringing up a child here?” Ranthos remarked peering over the odd building and it’s large doorless frame.

“Yeah… I don’t know why either. But come on let’s kno-… oh! It’s one of them doorless dwellings.” De’vontae rubbed his chin and frowned “So how do we knock?”

“Gather closely lads. For I have a cunning plan!” Remarked Mal’thadian, his bear maw grinning to show his own grin. And so with genius genes leading their way, the three lined up and made their loudest interpretation of a train that they possibly could.

https://i.imgur.com/FfGyJCQ.png

Sadly all this achieved was for a window to open at the top of the tower, a pale face to peer down on the elves, roll a pair of purple hued eyes and the window to slam shut again. Jilted at the door step the trio felt their mood plummet and decided, since Walkman were not invented in the world of Azeroth yet, they’d instead go stare at their old base Mistbrook and remember the bad feelings so that their current low mood didn’t feel as bad.

https://i.imgur.com/MEhYOG7.jpg

Mistbrooks reminder that things were not so bad since they are standing and Mistbrook was a hunk of crap forgotten on the edge of the blackened woods, helped spur on our adventurers. And so with a little stop to pee in the river…

https://i.imgur.com/7Pwo8Np.jpg

…they continued their walk. You could almost see how slowly enthused they became with their adventure, gaining momentum with every stride and enjoying the round about root their feet would take them. At times their feet led them to paths they already walked and others in a completely pointless loop. But walk they did and up the dead scar where they happened upon a rather disturbing scene of an Abomination in a high strung thong.

Ranthos pointed in abject horror as Mal’thadian tried to stop vomiting, but De’vontae became distracted as he realised how much like a fish Ranthos looked on a side profile. This worked to their benefit, because really De’vontae had the worst stomach for such sights.

https://i.imgur.com/1LFbraG.png

Continuing on they left the blackened woods only to come back around onto the blackened woods again. We did say that their journey was not a well thought out one. They had to at a point, come to a stop so that De’vontae could regard a map under the light of a lantern and Ranthos scared Mal’thadian into falling off a bridge.

https://i.imgur.com/rGwEGq4.jpg

Finally they made it over to Tranquillien where the local guards informed them to be wary of unwashed vegetables on their journey, but otherwise wished them a pleasant stay. But Ranthos was not one to take warnings lightly and frowned to his companions…

“We best ward off the evil spirits of Lettuce and Sparagus otherwise who knows what will happen to us on our journey and what vegetables washed or otherwise will take their vengeance out on us!”

“What do you suggest Ranthos?” De’vontae and Mal’thadian replied in unison.

“The dance macabre!”

https://i.imgur.com/8HQjCai.png

And so they boogied down, they sashayed left, they pranced forwards and they shimmied right until they felt for sure they’d appeased any unwanted attention from angry vegetable spirits. As you can tell it was a very serious problem and something they took to heart.

The trio then waved goodbye to their new friend the guard in tranquillien and walked away to the gates of Quel’thalas. These were odd gates because quite frankly the decore was out of date and they were always open. You’d think they’d be a little more careful what with purple people wearing crowns and blue eyed priests with a small army of angry high borne trying to come in.

https://i.imgur.com/8HQjCai.png

But little did they know that at the time of their leaving the high home, an angry podling spirit born from the rage of an unwashed turnip was crossing the road the same time that they were. And with a wisp of white and keening cries our trio became vessels for the angry sprite who wanted nothing but vengeance for the crimes done to them.

The trio grabbed bushes and twigs and fashioned themselves to appear more eco-friendly and began their sneaky invasion into the Plaguelands, searching for the people responsible.

https://i.imgur.com/4E73Yt8.png

In their journey the twigs and leaves became absorbed into their bodies, though they did not notice for they were still enchanted. The podling spirit was having great fun, even getting them to admit fealty into the podling clan of cumbers.

https://i.imgur.com/p3L1uan.jpg

When they finally came across some settlements the three moved in unison with a strange background song that followed them like a bard was playing music. It was strange but this music allowed them to go by undetected from those who had washed their vegetables, passing under the nose of the argent watchers.

https://i.imgur.com/nP0JqsA.jpg

Infiltrating Lights Hope Chapel revealed a lead for the enthralled followers hailing news of unwashed vegetables in the larder of Hearthglen.

https://i.imgur.com/aaOwott.jpg

The longer the enchantment held the less the will of those captured were able to push back. Until suddenly the world took on a rather vegetable glow…

https://i.imgur.com/TD2MEIw.jpg

SNAP! The sound of a raw carrot cracking, WHACK! the sound of a melon crunching and Mal’thadian was gone! Turning in shock De’vontae whirlled around only to see Ranthos on the ground breathing heavily. De’vontae leant down to his friend, shaking him softly

“Ranthos! Speak to me!”

“…De-…de’vontae…what have they done to you-…”

Was all Ranthos managed before doubling over in pain. De’vontae looked at his hands and realised they were roots! He was not himself anymore!

https://i.imgur.com/ih6PqOj.png

He looked back to Ranthos who no longer was the elf he used to be. Instead, two podlings looked at each other. And they knew what had to be done… so with the power of friendship, rainbows, veganism and hygiene - they marched for Hearthglen!

https://i.imgur.com/8x4wrP9.png

https://i.imgur.com/uZEi4lj.png

Sneaking through the front gates to the sound of mission impossible, the duo snuck to the front of the keep where they came upon members of the Lights watch order quietly talking and enjoying the night air. Unaware of how much soil stained their insides.

https://i.imgur.com/cvLTHof.png

Heavily guarded was the keep, so the two went incognito and doused themselves in the heavenly blessing of chopped up vegetables hidden in sauces so you don’t realise how healthy your meal is. With this blessing they blended seamlessly into the background…

https://i.imgur.com/0CUwtBn.png

But they didn’t account for the all seeing eye of a female Tauren officer from the order. She knew something was off, and it wasn’t just the yellow balloon De’vontae had somehow procured.

https://i.imgur.com/dF67eA0.jpg

She gave chase, flushing the two out of the keep and onto the roof, trying desperately to dispel the curse upon the elves! But she under estimated how good at hiding these two were.

https://i.imgur.com/QtBa6Ka.png

Finally she had them cornered. “WHAT DO YOU WANT!” She yelled in desperation, clutching her cow-like-knees.

“We-…want…you…” Ranthos-pod began…

…“ME?!” She looked in horror.

“No-…shush.”

“Oh sorry.”

“We want you to wash your vegetables!” Finished Devpod.

“Wash my- … oh no! Don’t tell me they were soiled! Please, I’ll repent!”

“It’s too late to repent” they replied in unison and with one fell sweep of their root hands they thrust them forwards releasing a stream of soil at the woman covering her from head to toe in earth.

https://i.imgur.com/rUwCNa3.png

With a great leap the pair jumped back off the building and fled, leaving the tauren of Hearthglen to quietly retch out of her pile of soil. “Damn…activists…”

The end.

We can neither confirm nor deny the existance of Skyguard pretending to be plant people during the later hours of the evening.

A quick update for this week, we’ll be visiting the Kosh’harg as well as performing another Dragonhawk bonding ceremony on Wednesday! Feel free to come by and say hello!

While visiting Nagrand for the Kosh’harg, the Skyguard was able to get together to commemorate a pair of elves who were able to rise to the rank of Skyguard and Hawkrider respectively:

Hawkrider Zylinea Paleblaze, bonded with the Gold Glimmerdust. Skyguard Sylvariah Stardusk, dubbed with the ace name: ‘Faebright.’

Adding to this, the Skyguard also took the opportunity to commemorate the elves who have stood out for their actions in the last few deployments:

  • Sergeant Vaelath ‘Cantrip’ Ashleaf, awarded with the fourth stud on his Bronze Pinion for the ‘Devastation Rained on the Slave-Traders in the skies of Desolace.’

  • Sky Warden Felicia ‘Bandolier’ Reddawn, awarded with the first stud on her Bronze Rectrix for the 'Conspicuous Valor displayed to ensure the Unit’s safety."

  • Skyguard Mal’thadian ‘Felreaver’ Spineblade, awarded with the fourth stud on his Bronze Pinion for the ‘Crazy Heroics in the skies of Desolace and Tanaris.’

  • Skyguard Sylvariah ‘Faebright’ Stardusk, awarded with the Bronze Pinion for the ‘Courage and Crazy Heroics displayed in the Twisting Nether.’

  • Skyguard Leynwa ‘Dynamo’ Dewfeather, awarded with the Bronze Pinion for her ‘Extraordinary Courage when facing a Titan Construct.’

  • Hawkrider Lyllithe Tel’aryn, awarded with both the Bronze Rectrice and Bronze Tectrix for her ‘Impressive Work, Courage and Tenacity under the skies of Tanaris.’

After some time spent away at the Kosh’harg celebrations and defending the festival from Ogre unions, the Skyguard are returning home to kick up their feet and relax before they have to defend themselves from a kicking circle with The Sanguine Eye, Division Twenty Three, Crimson Vanguard & the Blood Ravens!

I ran into one of the Skyguards recently! Was fun. Would gladly run into one of the Skyguards again any time.

On the eve before the unit’s deployment to the frozen wasteland of Northrend, the Skyguard took the opportunity to commemorate two very special elves who through their hard work and effort have managed to truly make their mark as fliers:

Skyguard Aelevie Dawnsong, dubbed with the ace name: ‘Bishop.’

Sergeant Vaelath ‘Cantrip’ Ashleaf, awarded with the status of King-Ace.

(and for those who want to be nosy: Vaelath’s scroll!)

The Thalassian Skyguard will be returning back to the big white city after appearing and fighting in the latest Northrend Campaign in which we fought Undead, Kvaldir and Vrykul! The Skyguard soldiers are looking forward to finally returning to a nice bed, new soft clothes, clean baths and not sharing a tent with Tyrenas’s smelly feet. Can’t wait to see you all back home and those familiar faces we’ve been missing!

After a long, much needed night full of laughter, well placed jokes, silly but incredibly clever and fitting nicknames - stamps and adorable cats that threaten you with a lawsuit as soon as you try to give them a generous scratch underneath the chin, Valarmar finds himself humming a gentle tune on the way home.

A nostalgic smile played at his lips as he whimsically leapt from one stone to the other on the cobbled path, a fleeting moment of pure lightheartedness that had been a rare thing for the elf as of late. Those that had around to hear it could identify what he had been humming as the song the Skyguard came together to perform during Rhok’shar Netherhowl and Kaldris’ bonding. A melody he’d grown more than attached to, just like the people he shared tonight’s splendour with.

It was certain to him now - as he walked through the Eversong Forest, taking in the ambient noises of a nightbird’s song. The rustling of multicolored leaves in the breeze that gently swept across the land and swept his worries away - that he had finally landed. He’d finally found a place he could call home with full conviction in his heart.

It was in that moment of freedom, when a feeling slowly welled up in his chest - a feeling he was all too familiar with. Familiarity in the form of the warmth of his mother’s doting smile - her hands adorned by many colorful rings skillfully dancing across the keys of a piano in the sunlight by an open window, pure white shimmering sheer curtains fresh out of the laundry fluttering and flying inwards, sun reflecting off her strawberry blonde hair.

His twin brother’s soft hymns bouncing around the walls of their estate and gracing their home with a certain feeling of ease in those fragile days.

That small newborn bird that came barreling through his window, leaving it completely at his mercy - and after being nursed back to health, brought him a plethora of gifts including one particular gemstone that was most certainly too big for its little beak to carry.

All the way to that soft feathery hug Buttercup had once enveloped him in, showing him her hatchling - her words of reassurance. ‘Hope’. That feeling he’d been given and carried with him since.

And in that moment as all those elements came together to form within him the feeling of love and familiarity of everlasting bonds, Valarmar felt himself be enveloped in a soft glimmering golden glow from head to toe, tapping into what had been slumbering within for all this time.

He might not have known it immediately, but this would be a major step forward for him - and to put it in words he’d once uttered himself, ushering himself into a future full of light and life.

Had great fun joining the Skyguard for a fantastic flying event during the Northrend campaign. Do you folks have a regular event night that friends of the Skyguard can join you on, or are events organised ad-hoc?
