I have noticed an increasingly division between people who like Bellular and people who don`t
I started watching his videos randomly, via the algorithm ,youtube gave me his videos as suggestions. I think they are made really well , with good scripts and visuals especially on the lore stories
But then I discovered this forum and seen that some people are against him, and I wonder why:
Is it because a controversial name (Asmongold) is constantly quoting him and the hate goes to Bellular by association?
Is it because he uses clickbait titles? Clickbait like thirstraps, are a result of our current generation lack of education , kids who grew up with FB IG and tiktok, who depend on others to form an opinion, without an educated life experience. Clickbait is everywhere…is the MCdonalds burger looking like in its picture? Are the profile pictures an accurate description of how people actually look in real life? Clickbait is absolutely everywhere and is a marketing tool and is not a danger for a person who can judge things for himself
Is it because he is a “noob” who doesnt even play WoW? Lets speak about Hazel for a second. She is a sweetheart, always friendly and positive. Always watching her videos. However, heavily carried by the fanbase in PvP and PvE. As a mount collector, she made a video called “FINALLY I got Voidtalon” , and by that it meant a fanboi camped for HOURS the many spawn spots, had a warlock alt which summoned Hazel to the portal and she clicked it. If Bellular wanted, he could have had Cutting Edge and 3k rio every patch. SO whats worse, a genuine noob or a carried pro?
I see Bellular as a news anchor that reports the reality of the game as it is at that specific moment. A lot of the times is bad (as per last 6 years) some of the times is good (as DF hype + first month)
He noticed a niche in the market and took advantage of it and monetized it. To hate that just reveals the frustration that we couldnt do the same.
I never liked that guy, actually I cannot stand him so I dont care what he has to say about WoW…I cannot believe that someone does, if he was a great skilled wow player ok…I should consider his opinion but he is not so…who cares?
Mostly, for me, because he tends to (from what I read, I rarely ever watch his videos) kick in open doors. Like getting into something that’s already widely spread in the community. Thanks bro, we know.
And then he uses a clickbait title to pretend that he just came up with something new. No man, you just repeat what quite some players already say.
I am aware that he runs a company which produces somewhat decent games (as per reviews) but that doesn’t mean that he knows everything about the gaming industry. And I kind of hate when those people try to speak in an authorative way - like they hold the ultimate truth.
now tell me, did he made video playing WoW in the last 100 uploads ?
when was the last guide to playthrough he made ?
no ?
so hes just sitting there rambling about “uuu muh wow bad devs bad”
harvesting cash for content cause u are the reason persons like him are existing
allso he looks like a guy who took over the girl i loved back in the day
when i see this guy i boils my blood and want to punch monitor
Do we also have a “who?” section for him, I have no idea who this person is other than youtube thumbnails so I’m going to assume it’s the person in the thumbnail and apart from making youtube videos why is he important and why should I care
So isnt it a good thing that the voice of the masses are being put on a large platform that cannot be ignored as easily as these forums are?
I dont care if he monetize thin air…as long as our issues are being brought up to light.
I don’t see the point of it at least. The US forums have a slightly different level of usefulness already, so feedback there is already handled differently - at times… Their surveys must get some information. In-game metrics deliver a ton of data. Unsub-messages can be analysed. Nothing Bel says is something that Blizzard doesn’t know or can’t know, nothing of it. Repeating it till eternity won’t change anything.
Even during beta phases plenty of feedback rolls in - directly to the devs - and quite often nothing happens with it. It’s not about the feedback-input.
What we do like to pretend, however, is that Blizzard is some incompetent company which cannot figure anything out and that we have to steer every single bit of it. And if they don’t do as we say, they failed. I think mr Dunning-Kruger had a nice theory about this tho.
I think of him more as a theoretical game dev than a WoW streamer/tuber. He seems interested in providing critique and thought about game systems, and uses WoW as a vehicle to do that because it has a gigantic player base that goes through turbulent times. Since people like watching videos that enforce their opinions, it gets him views and he’s made a business model off the back of it.
I’m not super interested in most of his content, but I don’t really begrudge him it. Obviously he’s making things people want to watch, else people would stop watching. Arguably he amplifies negative emotions within the player base, but tabloid newspapers have been doing that for over a century. I won’t call him worse than the Daily Mail for sure!
And sometimes he does raise a decent point here and there. I like his concept of M+ affixes as positive bonuses we’d find ways to lean into, rather than random punishments that literally make players take a week off when they align badly. It is not wrong to call this an example of bad design, and it’s probably useful to the average player to have someone with an audience calling things things out publicly. Blizz are far more likely to notice Bellular or Asmon than they are to read these forums.
Anyone who does major videos for traction regarding a video game, while simultaniously promoting their own game studio is going to be met with a amount of hatred.
He does alot of criticing based on personal opinon instead from a factual pov, which is a problem. The moment u apply a opinon to something it has alot less credibility.
I dont dislike him, i dont watch him alot either however, some of his stuff is ok, he does pretty well at gathering evidence regarding games popularity etc etc. And his numbers are as close as ur going to get to the real picture of sub counts.
Yeah his team (since he is not alone in the channel and multiple people are working on the videos) have their own biases like all humans. This means that a portion of the population will agree with them and another will not (percentages will vary but almost nothing will be 0-100 split).
I mean he uses them as much as the next creator. Most people I think got used to the false advertising of clickbait so I do not think it will have THAT much of an impact.
I think that while as a group they are pretty casual, they have members in their team that are pretty highly ranked at least in raiding. Those members provide info/context for the more hardcore part of the community from what I saw.
The main reason that he is more controversial inside the forums (like preach and asmongold), is mainly because those streamers do not filter out their own opinions regarding blizzard and the game. By having their opinions heard while having a big following, it is only normal for the community to be split in those that agree/disagree with them.
While browsing the threads it might give the idea of people disagreeing with them, if you search the replies, almost everyone says something different. At the end of the day everyone is an individual and will provide his opinion on another’s opinion.
That is my view as well. Blizz is more likely to notice the bad publicity towards their money making machine, and take action, than these forums or tweeter or whatnot
Exactly. If the big content creators are mostly expressing opinions that work for me, then I am happy for them to exist because they have a much louder voice than I do. They will be noticed by Blizz HQ where my forum rants will not.
The community however does get to control what our content creators will talk about. If the majority of us disagree with what they say, we stop watching, and they will almost certainly find a new angle to come at so’s we re-engage. They get money from our views and no money from our disinterest.
It’s a weird form of democracy where views are votes, and policies are highly malleable, but the candidates are permanently in place and can’t be changed.
Not a friend, not a foe.
A guy who milk views (and getting money) with controversial and clickbait “work” .
A mediocre WoW player who dosen’t care about making the game better but want to keep it alive so he can have views (and money).
I don’t think his opinios have shape WoW.
Its because he seemingly hates Blizzard and WoW yet cant just let go and quit. Its pathetic. But yes, I’m aware without either to hate on he’d just fade back into obscurity and not make any money so here we are.
Its just sad people need someone like him to have their opinions affirmed because they lack conviction themselves.
Content creators do nothing to shape the game no matter how much you’d like to believe they do.
