I mainly PvP, which is a bit more racial dependent than in PvE (I think).
But I’m struggling choosing a race, and would love some input from the community, to mae a decision.
According to icy-veins, for PvP they recommend:
- Night Elf
- Human
- Dark Iron Dwarf
But I’m assuming this is for “team PvP” like Arena, and not “solo PvP” like Battleground/WPvP type content, which I mainly prefer…
I personally don’t like those 3 races, since you see EVERYONE play those. I have my own favorites that I have a hard time picking from, both in terms of “how they look/lore”, and racial abilities.
I would love to know what others think.
Even if you have a race you prefer that I don’t mention below.
My thoughts are on:
Gnome - Since it has Escape Artist, which is great as a “substitute” for Cunning pets Master’s Call spell, allowing us to pick Tenacity pets for more healing instead. I feel this is a VERY overlooked racial, simply because many doesn’t like Gnomes?
And it has “fun factor”, since there is nothing more humiliating that getting killed by a Gnome.
Draenei - After we got the Eredar skin options, I love that we can play as “demons”. Their 20% heal racial, also goes well together with Tenacity pets Fortitude of the Bear for healing, especially since we are loosing all our hero talent healing when Pack Leader gets reworked next patch… (
)
Dracthyr - Glide is great in WPvP, and it allow you to nullify knockback effects completely. After we got the ability to stay in visage form, we also aren’t forced to look at the lizard anymore.
My Hunter is a Draenei for the reasons you mention: I get to be a space-faring demon. The racial combined with Fortitude of the Bear is okay, but it isn’t a huge lifesaver - 20% life healed over 5sec doesn’t save you from other players burst. Better than nothing though.
I think Night Elf is better in terms of racial usefulness, being able to be in stealth indefinitely is invaluable and the racial can be used to interrupt casts. As a BM you often guard nodes, so stealth is useful for that. Camouflage is good, but it only lasts one min and has a one min. cooldown.
So for me Night Elf for efficiency and Draenei for looks.

Yeah I also picked my original Hunter based on NE’s Shadowmeld racial.
Since it also allow “perma stealth”, by alternating between that and Camouflage.
I have just always that I generally after a few weeks, find races boring that I see everyone play. Such as Night Elf, Blood Elf, Dwarf, Human…
Yeah it really is an underwhelming racial, in comparison to other races.
It’s not “useless”… but not “great” either hehe.
But like you said, the look/fantasy is a 10/10, which is always > racial, imo.
Gnome is one of those races, that I always wanted to play, but am afraid it’s more of a “would be fun for a week” type of deal.
I am currently leveling a Gnome Hunter to “try it out”, and so far it seems great. The racial is REALLY good on PvP, they are one of the FEW races in the game that makes sense to carry guns instead of bows, and they also look surprisingly great in tmog.
I’m appreciate hearing your thoughts on Draenei.
I like not playing the popular races, but at the same time also love to hear that my choice “makes sense” hehe.
EDIT:
Sticking to “demon Draenei”.
It’s the one I always return to, and the one race that doesn’t bore me visually or fantasy wise, after a week of playing. And I know myself well enough to know that I naturally prefer “badass” over “silly & goofy”.
Thanks for the input.
