Have 3 which i’m told are the best items on my dh, socketed at 425, what is the fourth? (have bracers, gloves, boots).
I noticed on the forums some very distraught mage (Destrukt) posting about potentially 5 items. I know about the belt and it’s limited functionality at everything apart from two bosses, but what’s the fifth piece?
and
I have boots and gloves on mage, non-upgraded, with no socket. How decent is that? I mean is it worth upgrading or should i spin the wheel a bit more.
I have pufferfish bracers on mage, socketed, upgraded, how much worse that piece is to the one on dh that has some water shooting at the target?
Hey! There are two types of belts that are good in the benthic pool, one that does damage to aberrations and another one that has a chanche to do physical damage to an enemy, from what you’ve written this one is the one you seem to miss. There might also be some good azerite pieces so maybe the other mage was referring to that, but i don’t play mage so i don’t know about that :/.
As for your other question, it’s better to continue spinning the wheel, as sad as it is sockets are so good that having the possibility of rerolling for them virtually infinitely means you never want to upgrade unsocketed pieces. I’ts better to use the manapearls to spin the wheel then upgrade the pieces, don’t let it get to you it’s frustrating but there’s a lot of gain in sockets :D.
I’ll also link this h ttps://www.icy-veins.com/wow/frost-mage-pve-dps-gear-best-in-slot (remove the space in https, forum rules won’t let me link :P) it’s the best in slot page for frost mage, you’ll find the recommended benthic pieces at the top of the page. On the top left there’s a window called classes and if you go there you’ll find every class in the game, click on the specialization that interests you and you’ll find a lot of cool guides and under gear and best in slots you’ll find the recommended benthic for every class in the game. Hope i was of help :D.
You were helpful and am very thankful for that, there’s just one problem. The site says there’s a difference between socketed and unsocketed pieces but it doesn’t go into detail as to how much that difference is and that’s one of the most pressing issues i have atm…to upgrade two pieces without sockets or wait for a lucky proc?
The best thing you can do is wait for procs, as stupid as it sounds sockets are very powerful and with benthic they are kind of in our “control” so you only want to upgrade the ones that have a socket. This is very min/max-y but benthic in general arevery min/max-y, so if you want to min/max might as well do it right, keep rolling :D.
I did a little simming for you to find that out. You can do that yourself on a site called raidbots, particulary its gear compare page. You can sim items you do not have yet.
In either case, the difference in DPS between the two bracers is minor, 89 DPS more in your case, but keep in mind that the pufferfish can miss if the boss is moved away before it explodes.
An unsocketed version of the top bracer (the one that does frost damage) sims 58 DPS lower for you. With a socket they are 0.3% better than the pufferfish one.
The crit boots, unsocketed, at 425 is a 2% upgrade for you (746 DPS) while a socketed one would be a 2.5% upgrade (917 DPS.) These are numbers you get from a patchwerk style bossfight, so a boss that really does nothing, you can just stand still and DPS.
Overall the 4 benthic pieces (425) without a socket increases your DPS by 3.1% (1122 DPS) while the same setup with the same pieces with a socket is a 5.1% DPS increase (1868 DPS.) Keep in mind that I do not know much about mage secondary stats. I went with haste gems, and used the physical damage proc belt (Vim’s Scalecrusher Belt.)
I also simmed the other belt for you (Shirakess Cinch.) Without a socket the aberration belt gives you a 1.5% DPS increase ( 548 DPS) against Orgozoa and Za’qul, while with a socket that goes up to 2.1% (764 DPS.) A maxed out Vim’s belt without a socket would give you 0.3% more DPS (111 DPS) than the belt you are currently using.
I hope this helps a bit evaluating the worth in upgrading the socketless pieces. Personally I would say it is worth rolling the tokens for the bonus socket, but in case of the boots it might worth just upgrading an unsocketed version if you do not have/want to dump that much time into it.
Looking purely at traits the benthic shoulders for fire mages are 4/4 BiS traits, so any fire mager that won’t go mythic EP it’s worth the effort to upgrade them. It has BiS trait considering a single wildfire and a single tides gives the highest dps increase. Then you get the prydaz shield and overwhelming power ontop of it. Will it be BiS for mythic? Almost, the only stronger 435 shoulders for mage are from mythic EP. Although just barely. TBH I should start saving up the 350 pearls for them instead of upgrading the other 4 pieces first.
My views are always going from fire, sometimes frost and never arcane.
Thank you too for this post. I haven’t even opened the shoulders so far on mage to see traits and they are indeed imba. All good traits for frost too.
Because i didn’t really pay attention as to what rewards the followers give (i generally took the healer), the mount reward one is at lvl 12 now, so i planned to lvl it to 20 anyway and this way ill farm for pearls too.
Just get everybody to 20 first, made that mistake. I have 29, 20 and 23… I willl waste alot of XP the next 20 or so days if I get naga orders or any xp item.
Also last chest that gives you pearls from followers is at 13. After that no more quest. It’s 18 pearls at 13. Don’t know if lv 30 will give a chest but not using said follower of 29 because I don’t wanna waste follower xp for the meta. It will get lv 30 by me getting weekly ancient barks instead.
It’s awefull they blocked the meta behind that weekly quest. Oh well in 23 days I can complete it.
