Best Class For Old Boomers

Hello. Oldschool WoW player just returned, played much more in the early years then on and off since. Looking for help finding the ideal class for me.

I’d like to play a class with a slower, simpler rotation. I’ve no interest in min/maxing, so I don’t mind if it’s not the optimal specialisation, and I’ve no interest in doing Heroic content. I just want something very basic and reasonably slow so I can focus on enjoying the game and not getting stressed at shiny graphics appearing on my screen every few seconds.

I played for a few short months in BFA but couldn’t find a class I enjoyed. I tried both Shadow Priest and BM Hunter but I found both of those became too fast paced for me, especially during their cooldown windows. I felt like things were flashing and popping up constantly - Like that gif of Tomoko from Watamote slapping a hundred buttons a minute on an arcade music game. (These classes could well be different now I haven’t tried them).

I’m hoping to find something that’s more along the lines of Classic. Not necessarily down to the level of a Frost Mage tapping a single key, but certainly something less hyper spammy than Shadow Priest and BM Hunter were in BFA.

Thanks for reading and any advice you can offer this ol’ timer.

Maybe a destruction warlock? I’ve always felt like that spec is very slow. Retribution paladin could be another choice. Other than that, not many come into mind, and I don’t play enough warriors to know their situation but that could also be a potential choice.

Destruction Warlock you say? I’ll take a look.

Thank you. You’re a scholar and a gent.

Just stopping by to say welcome back, Radstache! Always lovely to see oldschoolers like yourself have another adventure into Azeroth!

We hope you can find a class and spec that you enjoy and all the best on your journey!

An update for any fellow boomers such as myself!

I’ve tried Arms Warrior. It starts off really well, but things become awkward at level 32. An ability called ‘Tactician’ is unlocked which upsets the rotation and adds in the aforementioned ‘quick slap shiny button .gif’ issue as other classes.

I will continue my research in the name of boomers everywhere!

Guardian Druid may be an option. In my opinion it’s one of the slower specs, not too many procs that shine up and it has quite a simple rotation.

Retribution has some options to go for a simple rotation (although that leads to some procs) and their burst phase is not thát (imo) spammy.

This is also an interesting idea. :+1:

For solo play in the world, any Tank spec is relaxing, because frankly, you don’t have to keep up with your full rotation. You can happily drop most of the buttons without much loss of function - you’ll be fine pretty much whatever you do. And of the tanks, Guardian is probably the most relaxed, with the lowest Actions Per Minute.

Of course, if you intend to do dungeons in a random group, taking on a tank role might not be ideal for a peaceful life! :stuck_out_tongue:

You could try out elemental shaman also pretty slow and simple… or the healer classes can also sometimes be very simple in terms of combat spells that it has. Like the mistweaver monk it has only like 3 combat abilities I believe should be simple enough…
