Best class/spec for Loremaster

Probably this has been discussed already, found one topic during Shadowlands, maybe things have changed since.

Anyway I want to complete quests, explore the zones, complete Loremaster. I wonder what the most suitable classes and specs are. I created this DH with such intentions. I find Eye Beam very effective against group of mobs.

Is the DH suitable for Loremaster? Or other classes and specs are recommended. Ideally they should have good survivability against elites or in group quests.

I think I’ll lock experience at 59 or 60 and use Chromie time to have some challenge and the gear to be relevant for my level.

After I have completed Loremaster the character will be very valuable because of the reputations and achievements so I would like to continue using the same character for raiding and PVP.

Thank you for your advice and recommendations!

I have no idea from a gameplay point of view these days, but for a… well, “lore-friendly” fit, go pandaren, dwarf or blood elf monk, rogue, hunter or priest. :sunglasses:

In my opinion, best class for such things is druid. Why?

  1. Kill mobs with moonfire / sunfire.
  2. Instant flight form
  3. Cat form for speed if indoor content
  4. Prowl if high level content where mobs can see you

Win, win, win, win. I use my druid for everything achievment, quest, reputation related.

Druid is the best because instant flight form, that’s just a huge timesaver

For low level content, Mistweaver is also very convenient because you can spam Spinning Crane Kick to easily AOE everything around you.

It’s also, of course, very mobile.

Druid is the king of farming anything, especially if you’re doing it with a max level toon. Get a decent speed set with high item level and just run around in feral and flight form. Plus for annoying zones like vashjir still an easy quick mount.

Do you mean when you outlevel a zone and one-shot everything?

Yes. At max level that’s 95% of the content of the game.

And I think that Spinning Crane Kick is the most convenient way to AOE things down.
It’s instant and completely spammable.

Every spec is suitable for Loremaster. Easily. At high level, every spec one-shots everything,.

Druid is technically best at everything for farming. You have unlimited instant ranged attacks, which will be one-shots at the level disparities that exist in Loremaster. You have a tank spec if you need it for anything, say in Dragonflight. You have heals. You have stealth. You have instant flying. It is simply the class with the most comprehensive toolkit.

But since absolutely anything will destroy all lower levels, use the class you enjoy most. Your enjoyment is more important than shaving a few seconds off here and there.

I see most people recommend to do Loremaster at max level. I was going to lock experience at lower level and use Chromie to scale the content to my level. This way I actually get to use my character abilities, it will be way less boring and the gear and gold rewards will scale to my level. Or because it’s already very time consuming to do it on max level to save time fighting mobs.

While it is true that the druid is the most versatile class, I have the following concerns:
I won’t see my character’s transmogs most of the time except when I am resto spec. It’s great in groups but for old content most of which will have to be solo I think tank and DPS will be way more useful.
Aren’t leather transmogs the second worse after mail?
Druids can’t use swords or axes and aren’t these two types of weapons the most famous throughout WOW history?
Won’t instant flying form make me use my shiny new mount less and less?

Well then, you would have to lock your XP around level 30 first, or lower, to complete Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, since the original zones do not scale above 30. Then release your XP-lock and choose a higher level to stop at.

After you complete the EK+Kal Loremaster, it’s hard to know what level would be best for your purposes. It won’t necessarily be near-60, since in Chromie Time, everything will scale to you.

All through 1-70, the level at which you are weakest is 69 in Dragonflight. It may well be that 58-59 is a weak level in Chromie Time above 30. Much depends on what kind of experience you want. With equal gear equivalence, it could be that level 10 is the most powerful level in Chromie Time.

You could even lock your XP at 10 all the way, buy or otherwise acquire yourself some Very Good, twink-quality level 10 gear. People talk about level 10s being OP in their first dungeons. I’m not sure how that translates to world content, but if you take a little time and gold up front to throw on the best gear and enchants you can find, you might find yourself pleasantly powerful without being godlike.

The achievements will be shared to all characters, so that’s not really a thing anymore. Reps are nice, but the achievements for reps are also shared, and the counting of reps is also shared. So while this is a nice-to-have, collecting them on one character is not what it once was. (I say this ruefully, since I collected all my reps on my Mage. ) Then the mounts and pets and toys you can buy with your reps are useable on all characters as well.

If you enjoy the DH, use the DH! :+1: You have a tank spec Vengeance which is more than plenty to handle any same-level-scaled rares or elites in the world that you may need to face in questing. If you choose a nice level and take a little efforto to get good gear, you will rarely need it, but it is available.

If you intend for one character to be the loremaster, I recommend a safegueard option by picking a race/class option that have been around since vanilla. If you prefer mobility - go Druid. If you prefer portability - go Mage. The other classes (Warrior / Paladin / Hunter / Rogue / Priest / Shaman / Warlock) have their perks too, but none as practical as Druid and Mage.

That’s a really good point! I think 19 should be a good level to stop experience gain and do all the zones that can scale down to 19. Once I am fully equipped with blue/purple gear, I could do battlegrounds in between quests.

That’s also a very good point! DH wouldn’t be great option because it doesn’t have anything to collect before Legion. I wonder whether DK is a bad option because it’s only vanilla and TBC that the DK won’t have anything to collect.

Raid loot in one thing, but this is from a questing perspective for content like class quests and race-sensitive quests.

Also there is interactions in an past context where newer classes and races becomes awkward in a roleplaying perspective, like any questing with a DH in pre-Legion content (especially Felwood!).

Death Knights can still loot unrestricted plate gear in pre-WotLK raids, but for sure I would personally have visited those raids with a Paladin or Warrior instead unless I already had obtained all respective class-restricted gear for this armour type.

Monks exist my guy.
And they are as practical as druid.

How about you read the whole post for the full context before you respond to it?

Monks did not exist as a playable class in vanilla, although the class certainly was under development already back then. Monk’s class ID is 10, which is between Warlock (9) and Druid (11),

Play what makes you happiest.

No one class shines so far beyond others that you should roll it instead of what you enjoy playing.

If you twist my arm I’d say Druid probably has the most tools to cheese and skip stuff with Prowl you can just bypass a lot of things and with Flight Form you can pick up a lot of quest nodes without unmounting, but again these save you maybe minutes in a task that will take dozens if not hundreds of hours.

I like to do achievements with my main.

Loremaster you can do via alt levelling too. Pick a different Chromie time each time you run one through.

People min/max loremaster? I think this hurts my brain.

Most discussions lead to one class - hunter. It can have a tank pet, 2 distinctive play styles - melee and ranged, pets are much much more beautiful than warlock or death knight, can equip and transmog most weapons except maces (which are my least favorite compared to swords and axes). Drawbacks are worse transmogs and not great survivability of the class.
Druid will also be good to complete old content especially in Legion to collect the different cat and bear forms.
Another class that I recently found interesting is the priest. Is its survivability good enough in Dragonflight? I don’t need the best survivability in game but I don’t want to die at every bigger pack of mobs.
I enjoy playing mage in Classic but I feel it is not as strong in Dragonflight. And besides it is not a class for solo play.
