Class fantasy and fun are two things significantly more important that “meta” guidelines.
If you like what you play, you will be efficient and top the metters. If you put enough time and effort you will find spots in M+ and raids.

Week 2 mage nerf, then it’s rogue
Week 3 rogue nerf, then it’s lock
Week 4 mage buff, back to mage
Week 5 lock buff, back to lock
Week 6 shadow priest buff
Week 7 hunters, they scaled better
Week 8 rogues OP with a lego buff
Week 9 priests found a bug to exploit
Week 10 warlocks max out haste, back to top
NO specs ever “the best”, constantly changes with scaling, new tiers, nerfs, buffs. That happen weekly up to mythic raid, play what you enjoy start of expansion.

Why on earth would you pay to play a game where you let other people decide what you’re going to do and how? Why on earth wouldn’t you just pick what works for you and feels good?
It’s like going into a restaurant and letting the next table over order for you. Yeah, you may have a “better meal” but what happens if you hate the taste? Why wouldn’t you just pick for yourself and try to make the best of that?
As quoted post says stuff tends to rotate anyway. So you pick say affli lock because meta says go for it. What about 9.1 where affli is nerfed and now outlaw rogue is king? You gonna relevel another char, or hope to god you enjoyed warlock because you’re stuck with it now.
Just play what you enjoy and the rest comes.
1st week will be rogues. becourse u need only 100 soul ashes for ur first legendery what will allow rogues bypass hit cap so they will do way more DPS then magees first run in Torgas gives 150 soul ashes so first run first legendery
