If you were a to reroll on a completely new server, what would be the best expansion to level through with regards to obtaining gold for bags, transmogs, and mounts?
Basically, I’m too cheap to pay for a server transfer or a token, don’t enjoy dungeon spamming, and can’t be bothered to wait for materials that I might gather to sell on the auction house. So I’ve been thinking about which expansion would return the most gold during levelling to let me buy some basics (bags, riding skills, and transmogs to hide the levelling gear clown suit I’d end up wearing). Legion seems the best, initially, since you can skip the intro and the first quest in Dalaran gives you some tomes worth 50 shiny golden coins. The artefact relics and power drops also seem handy as they are worth a (relatively) good chunk of change to vendors.
I’m just suggesting that if you’re not a fan of spamming dungeons and you can’t be bothered to collect materials, and the mere fact that you think paying for a boost or character transfer is even an option any ration human being would take, then maybe you’re playing the wrong game.
You should be embracing the levelling experience and enjoy it for the game it is, rather than seeing it as something you need to get through.
P.S. Pick any expansion, you’ll make the gold you need to buy the riding skills and whatever you need to get through. Also use any BFA Marks of Honour you have left to buy Draught of Ten Lands for +10% XP. Then sit back and enjoy the story.
No point in taking someone else’s tastes personally, and no point in arguing about tastes, or making them norms. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want to run M+. AFAIAC, M+ combines all the worst aspects of the game in one efficient package, and I’d find it more fun to wait for an hour in the dark at a crowded bus stop in the rain with a sore foot. But some people genuinely enjoy it. Some people like Pineapple Pizza, or Coffee Ice-Cream. Doesn’t mean I tell them they should like what I like, dislike what I dislike. There was a time, in early Vanilla, when levelling was 90%+ of the game, and it would be fair to say that someone who doesn’t want to level would be better served in another game, but that time is gone. The devs have reshaped the game enough that you might now almost say that someone who enjoys levelling would be better served elsewhere.
Bauldheed, if Moonglade is your new server, I’ll be happy to shoot you a few K for levelling expenses. I have a character there I pretty much never play, and more than enough gold. You can send it back when you ding and pick up some gold of your own.
The reason to argue is that there has been over the years an influx of players that want to just do M+, PVP and Raiding, and skip out on the rest of the game.
They then come to the forums and moan that they have to play outside of their chosen end-game. And Blizz see the feedback and take action.
The result is, players like myself and yourself who enjoy playing WoW as a whole rather than just it’s mini-games, get less focus put on what we enjoy about the game.
My fear is WoW will just get broken up into 3 mini games and sold separately.
I would probably agree it’s Legion because it has a lot of very short quests and every quest rewards an item which can be vendored, plus the mats from it are most often in demand.
Having said that though, levelling is so far from the most efficient way to make gold that I’d personally be more worried about where the fastest levelling is so you can get to the end-game and start abusing TSM or whatever - and if you’re doing this for the fun of levelling itself I’ll just straight up recommend you play Classic. It’s levelling is miles and leagues better. But you do you.
I understand this idea, but I really don’t think that’s a realistic concern. There is an element of division between populations, of course, as there always has been, but when half the money coming in is from people who barely touch any of the big three, I think we’re safe.
Tbh, even I would be reluctant to level again. There are only so many times. Though I’d take any two expansions to level through rather than Shadowlands. Shadowlands is a really bad experience for second and subsequent alts.
The problem with BfA is the inflation of mats prices due to every new players being forced to level through there, so don’t waste time gathering while doing that expansion.
If you want money solely from vendoring drops and quest rewards then probably BFA or Legion, as their greys are worth more. Quest reward entirely depend on your level so that doesn’t matter.
I recall WoD being very good for gold due to the crazy amount of treasures.
I used to love going to WoD for leveling before they nerfed the experience of treasures.
Both Legion and BfA look to be a safe bet. However, saw a couple mobs in both Pandaria and WoD dropping some high vendor value grays, like 9g or something, moderately often.
All those expensive materials tend to be expansion end game stuff. Alas, not something that I would be able to farm while levelling. Also it would mean that I’d have to head back to town to post auctions, interrupting my adventures, and I’d have to wait around for stuff to sell.
That’s good to hear.
Thank you very much for your wonderfully kind offer. Moonglade is actually the first server I rolled on back in 2005 and the bulk of my characters all still reside on it and its linked servers. I’m actually contemplating a move to Argent Dawn but it’s hard to leave friends and memories behind.
As for gold, this thread is more of a thought experiment more than anything else. I’ve levelled eight or nine characters now on AD to unlock heritage or allied race armour so I’ve got a reasonable stockpile.
Indeed. I’m only interesting in making enough gold while levelling so that I don’t have to interrupt adventuring to visit the auction house, or log off to send myself welfare gold.
While I agree that the levelling in Classic is better in many ways, the gameplay for me is generally not. I prefer the more active style of play over watching my character auto-attack or wand mobs to death.
I’ve had a mixed bag with that. I levelled some characters during the end of BFA and they didn’t have a problem affording epic flying at 40. But recently my characters have came up a little short which made me wonder if something like Legion or WOD could be better.
I only take gathering professions during levelling if I want the XP from nodes or the mats for power-levelling skills later. But sounds like good advice for others.
LOL
Although I haven’t actually done much in TBC since the Shadowlands squish. If there is a good drop rate for Stoppable Forces and Goldenscale Vendorfish then it might be better than I remember.
Apart from Exile’s Reach. You seem to get much more money from those early quests than you do starting elsewhere.
I’ve not considered the treasures in WOD, probably due to me associating them more with experience and garrison resources than vendor fodder. Also, I’ve not done much outside of the initial intro since the end of Legion so perhaps it’s time for me to revisit it at some point.
Yeah, still not buying one.
Interesting. Were they rare mobs? I remember rares and warbringers in Pandaria dropping some good value loot but they became problematic or impossible to handle when scaling was first introduced.
I’ve still got a few zones in Pandaria that I’ve not fully quested through. It sounds like I should remedy that in the near future.
Then perhaps you should refrain from posting passive aggressive responses like, “maybe this isn’t the game for you” in threads where you have nothing to contribute.
not really. As pointed out. He said he didn’t like spamming dungeons, can’t be bothered to collect herbs to sell on AH, and in previous threads I’ve seen him talking about other areas of the game he doesn’t like. I’m just suggesting maybe it’s not for him. Nothing passive aggressive about pointing something out.
But you already chose to ignore my other response to you:
Then I went on to contribute some useful information:
