Hey everyone,
I’d like to play retail for a while. I want to boost a 120 character, and would like to heal in battlegrounds.
Which class is currently good for battlegrounds at the moment, or are they all good?
Also, what do I need to know gear wise? Can I just do battlegrounds and get pvp gear?
Is there points I need to put into gear too or something?

There’s no point to do battlegrounds unless you’re grinding honor.
Im against threads like this one for one simple reason.
Lets say Destro Locks are godly tier 1 DPS spec for battlegrounds.
Me , as total noob (which i am) in DPSing , i’ll never be able to master their rotations , just like Rogue’s just like DK’s .
So even if Destro is top pick , i went for a MM Hunter instead.
So , dont search for the BEST class to heal because you might end up like Titanic in the middle of the battlefield.
Do a little research and find the one it suits you the most.
If you join battlegrounds with green/blue gear you will get pretty much 2 shot.
You can grind Conquest thro random battlegrounds but its long and bitter road.
(Assuming you pref to Conquest cap weekly thro Assault - Daily battlegrounds - Weekly events)
You dont have to put any points in your gear , few gems & enchants in your main weapon is prio.
(I guess these are the points you are talking to)
Retail has no pvp gear. A new 120 will have a huge disadvantage in bgs because you will be up against hi pvE sourced gear levelled players with over twice your hp. The only way to catch up is pvE a lot.
As for class- people seem to rate disc priest and resto Druid in bgs but you’ll probs get as many opinions as posters:)
You may be shocked to learn that some of us actually enjoy PvP and log in only to play it.
Unpopular opinion - I love playing Holy Priest in PvP. Possibly not the best, but I found it fun
To answer OP: I like Mistweaver a lot.
In battlegrounds, Ascendance is an amazing spell. It’s your equivalent to Warlock portals. It allows for some amazing plays, especially if you’re a flag carrier in Warsong Gulch. Portal on top, wait below, and when they attack you they’re completely out of position.

As healer I’m free of all of that, 'cause people aren’t touching me. Well, occationally, but most of the time I’m free to do whatever I want.
I don’t think theres a bad healer for RBGS bar holy priest ngl. Alot of it as a healer involves having a second or third healer who can support you if you get tunneled.
Holy Priest is crazy good in Epic Battlegrounds where you can really do some insane AoE healing. By far the highest HPS output of any healer in those 40man raid scenarios.
Less good in the smaller 10v10 Battlegrounds though.
I enjoy Holy Priest in Battlegrounds too. 
Yo mate, pretty experienced in PvP here if I had to say so myself.
There are no healers that can function without being geared. Doing battlegrounds, or PvP in general, is not going to give you the gear you seek.
If you wish to do battlegrounds purely, you’re going to need a healer spec that can peel itself a lot. Try out either holy paladin, restoration shaman or mistweaver monk. Picking anything else is asking to be destroyed.

Thats really not true. Holy is pretty strong in BG’s.
They have decent abilities to avoid damage / interupts and have the best troll ability in game (shining force) to send people battle it out with gravity.
I have always preffered holy over disc in pvp. Especially during wrath when disc was god mode (2 disc priest couldn’t get killed by 10 people).
Holy Priest only has hard casts and gets destroyed by any melee. Its healing output is strong, but it can’t peel itself even if their irl lives depended on it.
Back when they had chakras they could handle their own. Defeated my heroic raid geared cousin playing a warrior on my holy priest during that time. Wasn’t that well geared myself either.
Then chakras were removed…
No, it doesn’t you have surge of light procs, a stun in which you can cast, a knockback in which you can cast, a fear in which you can cast, a holy word in which you can cast for 5 seconds. If all of this fails you MC them since its shadow school. A melee of the caliber you find in a BG will never kill me on their own.

And this is where you get hard CC’d to death until it’s over. Holy Ward somewhat makes up for it, but that’s simply a question of how much CC the enemy has.

OP asked what healer would be best for BGs, and gear purely through BGs.
You’re not fighting 1 melee, you could fight as far as up to 5, and as a lone undergeared holy priest you get holy locked to death with no chance of being peeled.
I’m not disagreeing with you that holy priest has strong healing output, but it’s the least self depending healer out there since it has to cast and open it self up to being kicked.
