is there a better pet currently for tanking? I have the one from Shadowmoon Valley outland and it is out tanking all my tenacity pets yet it is a ferocity spec.
that’s because of the leech.
All my ferocity pets are better tanks than my tenacity ones.
You’ll find that pets like gorillas and scalehides make great tanking pets as they have a defensive cooldown that lowers damage intake when low on health and the leech regenerates nearly back to full on it’s own or using a mend pet guarantees full health again.
Like OP replies have stated.
Ferocity pets in general are the best for leveling/soloing/open world content due to the passive Leech bonus. This is the case for BM hunters at least, maybe even Survival hunters as the pet do cause some damage there as well. Not totally sure on survival as it’s not something I engage in nowadays(used to when it was a ranged spec).
IF you play as MM, then the passive leech your pet gains(healing received from it) is so low that it’s no longer particularly good. In this case it’s better to go for a tenacity pet for better damage mitigation.
I play as BM myself and use a Spirit Beast for all content part from when a BL is needed. Any solo content I can do, the Spirit Beast can survive really + having that Spirit Mend(possibility to heal yourself or your pet on demand as well as healing others), is so good for group-based content. And the Spirit Shock(purge) doesn’t hurt either.
I personally use Gara, the Spirit Beast wolf from Shadowmoon Valley WoD.
Mend Pet, Spirit Mend and Exhiliration plus the reduced damage cooldowns = pretty much unkillabe unless you’re going up against something 4-5 levels above your max level and get lazy with the heals etc.
