Beta & PTR: 3D accelerator card support issue

Was testing in beta a few days back (say weekend), and all was fine I went tonight to spend some time in beta but when I ran the game I got the “Your 3D accelerator card is not supported by World of Warcraft.” Error on startup. (side note I’m running the wow executable directly at the moment) I checked this against retail, classicwotlk and ptr versions, classicwotlk and retail ran and loaded fine, ptr behaved same as beta throwing the 3D accelerator card error on startup.

After checking the Dragonflight system requirements to make sure my GPU GTX 970 (drivers are up to date) was supported I dug into the logs and the only thing that jumped out at me was the gx.log in the various versions log files.

As you can see its just straight up not finding the GPU on ptr or beta versions, but retail as does classic just work happily and as beta was working just a few days ago I suspect someone might have been patched that’s either excluding or ignoring my GPU.

This is all taken with a pinch of salt as im running this on linux (i’m aware of the ongoing issue linux users are having with battle.net hence why im running the executable directly)

It was fine at the weekend now is just throwing that error if anyone can throw some insight would be appreciated and yes I know blizz doesn’t support linux so im asking the community but if its something straight up like removal of support for specific GPU’s would be nice if there was an official post on it.

That error has always appeared, even on Retail, whenever your GPU maker rolls out a new stable driver, and you don’t update to it.

I do believe its “Working as Intended”.

Edit to add: If you want to report it as a bug, bugs are reported in game, not on the forums, and things relating to the beta have their own dedicated forum.

Thank you for your input but as I said retail and classicwotlk installs are working fine while simultaneously the beta and ptr installs aren’t by throwing the 3d accelerator error, and the drivers are upto date

Can’t post in game if I can’t start the game, and this is the technical support forum where as the beta/ptr forums are more orientated towards in game issues.

It might be Technical Support, but that doesn’t change the fact that bugs are reported in game via the bug reporting tool.

Bugs are not collected via the forums, and just go straight to digital death.

Support don’t deal with beta or PTR. They’re known to be unstable at times and every feedback including performance issues is done in the beta and PTR forums.

They haven’t ‘removed support for specific gpu’s’.

They’ve obviously made some engine changes that require a fix in the wine emulation layer.

Customer Support is unable to assist with any Beta or PTR issues. You may provide feedback on the Beta in our Beta Forums.

Please keep in mind, that Linux is not officially supported and we also won’t be able to assist with issues that happen on Linux.
