Jito, I see a difference between removing rewards and removing content.
Removing the PvP titles, appearances, mounts is removing rewards. Removing the Grove Warden or the Shiny Bird was removing a reward. Removing the whole Cloak quest line, or the whole Ring quest line, or the artefact trait building, or the Wrathgate finale, was removing content.
I agree with you that removing content is bad, and (almost?) never excusable.
Removing rewards, on the other hand, is something I can get behind either on the grounds that the reward is a “T-shirt” to say “I was there” or a prize for achieving something while it was current - an extra-snazzy T-shirt to say “I was there, and I did something worth doing”.
On the more general topic…
I see parallels between Blizzard’s proliferation of meaningless collectibles and their proliferation of meaningless gear.
Once, it was practical to aim for completionism up to a point. It was practical to aim for Heroic BiS. It was practical to aim for all Pets, apart from a few in the past you would have to pay and arm and a leg for on EBay.
Blizzard seem to have turned against that, against allowing completionism in any form. I don’t see their new thinking as a good thing, in any sphere.
I mean, I can see how the content is sometimes designed and presented in a way where it makes sense for a certain reward to be exclusive and only available for a short period of time.
But I wish Blizzard wouldn’t do it at all.
I don’t feel extra happy and special because I have the mounts from the War of Thorns pre-expansion event for Battle for Azeroth. I just feel sympathy for the players who really want the mounts themselves, but since they didn’t play during the event they know they’ll never get them.
I can accept something like Winter Veil where it’s unfortunate to miss out on the presents, but it’s not the end of the world, because there’s always next year! There’s opportunity to catch up, so to speak.
I think a large part of it is just that they are able to produce a lot more stuff these days.
I mean, in the past we used to request new mounts and pets all the time, because we barely ever got any. And when we finally did get some, it was like giving a cracker to a starving person!
So there was obviously a demand for more stuff in this area, and Blizzard has more than delivered I think. I believe patch 8.1 added something like 13 mounts to the game, which is insane.
It’s sort of a luxury problem, because now it almost feels overwhelming – as if there’s too much!
definitely agree. i wish there were more “time limited rewards” that are mainly linked to “skill” and similar stuff. like mage tower that drops mounts :3 we need more stuff like this imo. would greatly motivate me.
I know even with saves to make it quicker the idea of going into there makes me gag im that sick of see’ing the inside of there .
I really dont care if i never have another mount i just want that one so bad .I mean a 1000 kills over so many chars now its getting tiresome.
Thanks to Sav and his save makes it more bearable .
This i agree with removeing content is never good the MoP questline and the WoD ring i actually enjoyed doing .
As for rewards im a bit hmmmm on that
The curve mounts from
SoO
HFC
Antorus
which i have btw im not sure they should have been removed but no idea how they could have been kept .
Maybe a long questline or add to the end boss as a low drop mount ? no idea really but it saddens me to see things removed
challanger mods? i mean, just add good reward to mythic plus and isnt it the same?
never played CMs so no idea how it worked but i know it was about time and leaderboards, i like it. but i want rewards for being a special snowflake and all that so i stay motivated
I think it’s a way to nudge the story, so to speak (besides the fact that it’s sort of tradition that the last boss of a raid drops the cool mount). Regardless, Mimiron was killed by Loken, who was corrupted by Yogg-Saron.
Mimiron’s “head” dropping from Yogg-Saron is sort of a subtle way of saying that there’s a reason why Mimiron is now in the body of a small Mechagnome – the bad guy pretty much had him executed!
CM you where set to a set item lvl so for example you could be item lvl 385 now but you where scaled to 340 and had a time limit so yeah alot like Mythics as you had to clear X amount of trash and do the bosses and in X amount of time.
MoP ones
you got
4 x different mounts
1 x title
1 x armour set
And if you set server best time you got another special title fun times .
I had so much fun doing them and same with WoD one’s.
There was a guy called Nightfuzzy on the forums whom made groups to take them through and help them get golds he refused to take any gold or gifts his enjoyment was helping others and he did over 300 runs i think in the end .
I want all mounts in the end…
I have had disgusting luck when it comes to mount drops so far so i am definitely hopeful for the future haha
And get well soon!
Btw Sav told me theres a mount a Paradox something like that ,that cant fly but you need to do quests for is it a quest item drop i cant remember ?
And thank you on well wishes
Do you mean the Pterrodax mount that you can get via drop ? You need to kind of help it until it’s grown up and then you can get it as Mount but it unfortunately can’t fly
