BFA is collectors nightmare. Feeling forced to quit

I was always enjoying collecting toys, mounts, pets and achievements but BFA with all the RNG rewards and now Paragon Emissary boxes having Toys and Pets that drops only from opposite faction makes it really pretty much impossible to collect. The time and effort one would have to put to obtain both Horde and Alliance Toys/Pets from Emissary chests is just insane. Now when I think how much it would take I feel completely discourage to continue playing the game. I mean I already hate how PvE ended up with gear being just worthless resetting every patch I don’t wanna bother with Raiding at all and now I don’t feel like doing the only thing I still enjoyed in the game, there is no point for me to play the game anymore if Blizzard don’t care about people who like to collect stuff. Why would you go that way Blizzard? I mean in previous expansions there were few toys or pets that you would need opposite faction character to get but they were no were as crazy to get as it is in BFA. I’m still farming Warden Toy from Legion Paragon Emissary chest and after 70 tries still nothing thats 700000 reputation i farmed it already drives me insane and to think that now BFA added all those toys and pets you can get only by playing both factions I just cba anymore.

Why not make such toys at least BoE or connect them to alliance equivalent so that if you get one toy on alliance you get as well one from horde box or add horde toys/pets reward to 7th Legion Paragon Emissary Boxes.

I dunno I feel like Blizzard either don’t care about players when designing content anymore. I feel forced to quit what I enjoyed doing in the game and quit playing the game altogether for the first time in 14 years.

That’s why I don’t aim to collect everything. It’s pointless and unrealistic. In addition such a big goal is so hard to fullfil and you don’t realy feel like you make a lot of progress.

It’s better to aim to collect specific things you want and focus only on those. Then set new goals when you complete previous one.

I see your point. I also like collecting things ingame, but in a more casual way.
I have ten 120’s, but I only play one alliance and one horde char for emissaries, fun world quests etc. Sure, it’s a lot slower to get paragon boxes in BfA than it was in Legion, but I hope that the drop rate for emissary loot boxes isn’t as abysmal as in the previous expansion. I would advise you to play your horde char just for emissaries and the occasional invasion. By slowing down, you take the pressure off of having to grind everything out.

Good luck

They’ve done a lot more, get people to play both sides this expansion than before. I can’t say that I like it. At best I dabble with the opposite faction. It’s never going to be something I spend the time on like I do my main.

It’s a bit of a luxury problem.

Blizzard keeps adding more and more things to collect to WoW. So whereas in the past it might have been manageable to focus on those couple of things you were missing from your perfect collection, now there’s suddenly so much to collect that it becomes insurmountable to try and get everything.

I’ve also dropped the whole pet/mount/title/achievement hunting, and instead just try to grab whatever I come across – because you come across so damn much now!

I don’t think it’s bad design to make certain things only available on Horde or Alliance side, and I also don’t mind the RNG of the Paragon Chests. It’s just the sheer volume of all the things combined that makes the whole collection aspect daunting. It’s simply very hard – if not impossible – to keep up with the rate by which Blizzard implements new collectable things to the game.

I think a lot of it comes down to players lowering their expectations a bit in regards to their collections. Instead of trying to get everything, it’s probably more healthy to focus on a few things, or simply appreciate constantly getting new things – even if the 100% perfect collection drifts further and further away.

Collections in wow are generally pointless for anybody that hasn’t played constantly from the very start of the game because the collections are never able to be fully completed.

Collections that can never be completed because of constant removals are incredibly demotivating and it’s why I’ve actually chosen to quit the game.

Collecting is the content that I’ve always been drawn to in wow but as a player that doesn’t really enjoy taking part in organised group content and with the constant removal of items from this type of content happening with each expansion the game has sadly become seemingly less and less appealing to me.

As a mostly solo player I need a long term goal to aim for, collecting could easily be that goal but sadly Blizzard don’t know how to cater to anybody that doesn’t conform to the way they think the game should be played, they only see one way to play and that is through organised group content.

I find MMOs in general are not really suited for collectors/completionists.
Trying to collect and complete everything is an incredibly time-consuming process, especially with things that are only available for a limited time.

Collecting and completing stuff should be a fun (side-)activity.
If I wanted to do everything it would consume most of my playtime. Which leaves me with not much playtime left to do other in-game things I like.

Dont need to look at it like that. I also like collecting stuff but I dont play since the start and been away for long periods, but I only care of whats available today (except the Deathwheel, my pet peeve). If I had everything thats available right now Id consider my collection complete, no point regreting whats goneç.

Like in real, no one can get every things

I kinda get this same feeling, although my peeve on this subject is very specific to stuff that was previously readily available but was then removed through happenstance, like all the old vanilla leveling quest gear that I’ve owned at some point but can’t access anymore, or stuff from, say, old RFK. I even have the robe from there, but it’s on a rogue so I can never unlock it, and I didn’t really think that it’d get removed 10 years later…

I’m fine with stuff like ZG tiger, Naxx40 equipment, mage tower appearances etc. being gone, but random greenies/blues I couldve gotten in 2 minutes drive me up the walls.

edit:
REALLY hoping that with the release of Classic we could get the old world back as somehthing u can visit and collect things in.

I think a game that focuses a lot of it’s content around collections should at least have collections that are able to be completed. If they can’t be completed then what is the point in them exactly? As a collector I want a goal to reach for other than just collect as many as I can. I want the option to complete my collections. I’m a completionist at heart and for me knowing I can never complete any of the available collections is just really demotivating.

It’s not real life, its a game and games should have goals to reach for, things that give you a reason to keep logging in each day. With wow and my lack of desire to play organised group content this game does not provide that for me currently. Outside of organised group content there is nothing to reach for besides collecting for collections that can’t ever be completed.

It’s not worse than legion though? Legion drained me completely when I saw how much I needed to do all those pointless LFRs for a chance to complete the mage towers, I’ve never done that before in my WoW life. I really felt the pressure to gogogo and not miss out. BfA is much more relaxed in that way and I collect in my own time and only what’s interesting to me at the moment. Though I guess that could change with future patches if/when they decide to add end boss mounts or mage tower like challenges. My only advice is to collect only what you find interesting and only focus on couple of things at the time.

The difference with Legion was both sides were getting emissaries/paragons with the same factions.

At the same time though, Legion locked a lot of its collectible rewards behind the Class Order Halls, so if you wanted a specific pet or toy or whatever, then it often required that you chopped through the entire Order Hall Campaign for a particular class.

And it was the same with the Mage Tower by the end of Legion. Want the cool transmogrification appearances? Well then do Mage Tower on 12 classes, 36 specs :scream:

At least with Battle for Azeroth, the only requirement is that you play both Alliance and Horde if you want access to everything. And 2 is less than 12…or 36! :yum:

True, but as I have one of everything on the Horde it’s not really a big hardship to just pick an alt and keep going on that until I got to unlock the relevant pet/toy etc.

I can’t see me doing paragon rep caches on my Alliance. I just don’t spend enough time on her. I don’t even know that I’ll manage to hit exalted :frowning:

So eventually the…

Will get accomplished?

Me?..I don’t collect toys that have a cool down of more than 5 minutes and or that I don’t like but that’s just me :man_shrugging:

as a competitionist, and with varying degrees of OCD, the way that this side of the game is implemented is really disheartening and like you, makes me consider wanting to just give it all up.
it is my belief, without evidence to the contrary, that this is done on purpose by blizz to keep us playing every week. ok, fine, a “clever” trick to keep players playing and paying, but have they ever considered that we, as long term players with an investment in our game, would keep playing even if we completed or got close to completing collections of transmog, pets, toys or mounts? we might actually enjoy just sitting around in a city messing about, instead of burning out at some point and giving up in frustration.
so by wearing us out, you actually risk more and more of us dropping off like flys as we get older and dont have as much time to play, and just burn out.

Its not a very healthy mindset thinking you have to collect everything, it would take too much time and is simply impossible. Rather pick out something you really want and go for that, instead of wanting stuff you never gonna use.

I don’t think so.

On the PvP forums I’ve sometimes had some long discussions about the fact that by the end of every PvP Season, all the Elite PvP Transmogrification sets and Gladiator Mounts, Hippo mount, and so on, are removed.

I think that’s an incredibly stupid way to design a game. Removing content from a game is anathema to me.

But in the PvP community the vast majority of people applaud this kind of design, because it preserves the exclusivity and prestige associated with those rewards. They become extra special because you can’t get them anymore.

So while I think Blizzard partly does this because it creates urgency in the playerbase to actually play the game (“Omg I need to subscribe before BfA is released so I can do the War of Thorns content before it gets deleted forever! Take my money Blizz!”), there’s also a lot of players who actually think it’s the right and proper thing to do.

You are correct, technicly this can lead to eventualy collecting everything but it’s about mentality behind it. If you right away aim to get everything you can get overwhelmed by how many things there are to get. Smaller goals that are easier and quicker to achieve can increase your motivation becasue you succeed in a short time frame.

That’s the great way of doing many things with a big goal in mind. Still I doubt I’ll get everything because as I slowly get new things there are also new things added. Also at some time game might just get shut down or I’ll stop playing.
